In the back of the book there are some maps that Birgom drew of his travels. It's in the same world as my previous novel, *Exile*, with some of the same characters – Birgom is an important secondary character in *Exile*, and his diary is mentioned. The Story Elements below are oversimplified: while there's a lot of nautical setting, there's a lot of non-nautical setting too; and the time period is wrong.

These important essays and commentaries show the strengths and weaknesses of this papal commentary and point out the missing link in the global conversation on marriage, family, and same-sex relations. Their argument for the inclusion of African perspectives and moral traditions in the search for a third way in finding an inclusive and integrated pastoral art of accompaniment is very compelling. Gaagudju differs from most Australian languages in that a considerable amount of its morphology is unproductive, showing complex and irregular allomorphic variation. Gaagudju is like most Australian languages in that it may be described as a free word order language. However, word order is not totally free and strictly ordered phrasal compounding structures are significant (e.g. in the formation of denominal verbs).

Two towns with different historical and colonial background, Maiduguri in Nigeria and Banfora in Burkina Faso, were selected as research areas. The contrast between language and social institutions is most obvious in the colonial and post- colonial world in Africa. Colonization was characterized by the importation of European institutions which were of a qualitatively new nature linked to the globalising forces. This qualitative newness is captured in our term direct globalisation. A basic observation is that the globalising forces led to a hierarchicalisation of languages in Africa which is not obviously attested in the institutions of direct globalisation. Our term indirect globalisation describes the alignment of local practices to the external forces and institutions introduced during a globalising colonial and post-colonial experience.
