volunteer management conference 2023: Volunteer Management Jaclyn S. Piatak, Jessica E. Sowa, 2024-11-11 Volunteers play a critical role in serving communities and delivering public services. Volunteers serve across many areas — in schools, human service organizations, emergency services, and more. By providing services to those in need, volunteers expand the capacity of organizations and can devote extra time to the populations they serve. While research on volunteering has shifted from a focus on recruitment and motivation to management and retention, the focus is largely on universal, one-size-fits-all prescriptions. Volunteer management only recently moved to a contingency perspective focused on organizational needs. However, volunteer management should adapt to meet the needs of organizations and volunteers. Taking a strategic approach, this book provides an overview of volunteer management from planning and recruitment to engagement and evaluation, considering both organizational and volunteer needs and capacity. We develop a strategic volunteer management approach for volunteering to benefit not only the organizations and communities served, but also volunteers and society more broadly. This book advances research on volunteer management by combining the organizational and volunteer perspectives, provides a guide for volunteer administrators and coordinators, and serves well as a text for courses in volunteer management, nonprofit management, and human resource management.
volunteer management conference 2023: Proceedings of the 2023 2nd International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities and Arts (SSHA 2023) Mohd Fauzi bin Sedon, Intakhab Alam Khan, Mehmet CÜNEYT BİRKÖK, KinSun Chan, 2023-06-29 This is an open access book. With the progress of social civilization, social science and its research are becoming more and more important. Theoretically and practically, the study of social phenomena and social problems and the development of prosperous social sciences are the eternal themes of human beings. At present, social science research and its results can hardly meet the needs of social development, especially the unscientific evaluation of social science results, which has aroused great concern from all walks of life, and has produced dirt and questions on social science, thus affecting the proper development of social science. Max Weber once said that the most important function of social science in modern times is to keep people clear-headed and to resist the delusions of prophetic legislators. Humanities and arts are the process of perceiving, realizing, thinking, manipulating, and expressing objective or subjective objects through capturing and excavating, feeling and analyzing, integrating and applying, or displaying the stage results in the form obtained through feeling (seeing, hearing, smelling, touching). The social sciences and humanities and arts contain content that will directly affect our lives and the way society functions. And by reacting to today's increasingly intricate problems and situations through systematic and professional discussions, they will further contribute to the improvement of institutions and the development of society. By thinking about issues and looking at problems and the world from different perspectives by putting the two together, it may be possible to have more comprehensive, appropriate, and better responses; for example, the development of laws requires a deeper understanding of the environment in which they are implemented; international trade requires a certain understanding of the customs of different countries; and the development of tax and economic policies requires a certain understanding of the population, consumer demand, etc.

volunteer management conference 2023: Nonprofit Operations and Supply Chain Management Gemma Berenguer, Milind G. Sohoni, 2025-04-29 This book explores nonprofit organizations (NPOs) from an operations and supply chain management (OM/SCM) perspective. Traditionally, OM/SCM research has concentrated on for-profit businesses in sectors like retail and manufacturing. In contrast, nonprofit sectors such as food banks, nursing homes, educational institutions, social services, and humanitarian relief have been less studied but are the focus of this book. The study of NPO activities forms the nascent and novel field of Nonprofit Operations and Supply Chain Management. This distinctive book compiles research on the emerging field of NPO operations and supply chain management. From an operational perspective, it analyses how NPOs operate based on not-for-profit incentives, where some specific operational decisions such as fundraising, resource allocation, workforce scheduling, or transportation are studied in detail. From a supply chain perspective, the book highlights the diverse actors involved, including suppliers, donors, NPOs, and beneficiaries. It emphasizes the complexity of the donation channel in nonprofit supply chains, detailing various participants who either facilitate donation flow or ensure aid reaches beneficiaries. The book covers a range of topics from theoretical frameworks to practical applications, such as not-for-profit goals, ownership transitions, cash and in-kind donation management, and volunteer coordination in both offline and online environments. This co-edited volume presents a collection of recent innovative research on nonprofit OM/SCM from top global scholars and practitioners. It is mainly aimed at graduate students and researchers in supply chain management, operations management, and operations research. Additionally, academics from other fields studying nonprofit organizations and professionals in the nonprofit sector will find it valuable.

Gray, 2025-04-04 This book explores the critical issue of how to manage the ever-increasing demand for social care in Britain’s ageing society. Exploring the relationship between formal and informal care, this book develops ideas for a ‘caring economy’, showing the potential to integrate paid-for and unpaid care within a framework of solidarity based on the strengths of the community, working to improve the quality and quantity of state-funded care provision while sharing unpaid support more widely as a community responsibility.
volunteer management conference 2023: Online Optimization Patrick Jaillet, Michael R. Wagner, 2021-01-14 The objective of ONLINE OPTIMIZATION is to provide a systematic survey of the methodology.   volunteer management conference 2023: Beyond the Boomerang Christopher L. Pallas, Elizabeth A. Bloodgood, 2022-03-15 The types of actors involved in transnational advocacy have diversified. Northern NGOs have lost power and influence and been restricted in their access to southern states. Southern NGOs have developed a capacity to undertake advocacy on their own and often built closer relationships with their own governments. International institutions have become more open to southern NGOs and more skeptical of southern NGOs' claims to speak for southern populations. The result is that the boomerang theory, although still useful, no longer provides the broad explanation for advocacy. A wealth of recent articles (many by contributors to this volume) showed a growing scholarly recognition of the need for new theory. Beyond the Boomerang offers cutting-edge scholarship and synthesizes a new theoretical framework to develop a coherent, integrated picture of the current dynamics in global advocacy. .

volunteer management conference 2023: Twitch Mark R. Johnson, 2024-06-19 Twitch is the leading live streaming platform in most of the world and an integral part of contemporary digital gaming culture. Millions of people broadcast their game play (as well as other activities) to over a hundred million people who regularly visit the site. In this accessible book, Mark R. Johnson offers both a synthesis of existing Twitch research and a new way to understand Twitch as a public forum for gaming. Drawing on ideas of the ancient Greek agora or public forum, Johnson demonstrates how Twitch has become the key location for game players looking to understand what is contemporary, relevant, and important in modern gaming culture. He argues that Twitch has constructed a particular kind of public forum for gaming, an understanding which emerges from analysing the platform through its technological infrastructure, its streamers and viewers, its broadcast content, and its tightly knit communities. While this forum helps shape gaming culture, it also exhibits many of gaming's existing problems with harassment and cultural exclusivity. Despite being the essential public space for contemporary gaming, Johnson shows that Twitch is far more complex than it first appears, and is currently expanding in ways that challenge this – until now – core focus. This book is essential reading for students and scholars of game studies, media studies, and anyone with an interest in the rapidly changing nature of online communication.
