turkish air 777-300er: Airline Finance Peter S. Morrell, 2019-09-30 Air transport industry finance, with its complexity and special needs such as route rights, airport slots, aircraft leasing options and frequent flyer programmes, requires specific knowledge. While there are numerous financial management and corporate finance texts available, few of these provide explanations for the singularities of the airline industry with worked examples drawn directly from the industry itself. Revised and updated in its third edition, this internationally renowned and respected book provides the essentials to understanding all areas of airline finance. Designed to address each of the distinct areas of financial management in an air transport industry context, it also shows how these fit together, while each chapter and topic provides a detailed resource which can be also consulted separately. Supported at each stage by practical airline examples, it examines the financial trends and prospects for the airline industry as a whole, contrasting the developments for the major regions and airlines. Important techniques in financial analysis are applied to the airline industry, together with critical discussion of key issues. Thoroughly amended and updated throughout, the third edition reflects the many developments that have affected the industry since 2001. It features several important new topics, including Low Cost Carriers (LCCs), fuel hedging and US Chapter 11 provisions. The sections on financial statements and privatisation have been expanded, and a new chapter has been added on equity finance and IPOs. New case studies have been added, as well as the latest available financial data. The range and perspective is even greater than before, with significant expansion of material specific to the US and Asia. The book is a key resource for students of airline management, and a sophisticated and authoritative guide for analysts in financial institutions and consultancies, executives in airlines and related industries, and civil aviation departments. |

turkish air 777-300er: Straight and Level Stephen Holloway, 2016-12-14 This third edition of Straight and Level thoroughly updates the previous edition with extensive comments on recent industry developments and emerging business models. The discussion is illustrated by current examples drawn from all sectors of the industry and every region of the world. The fundamental structure of earlier editions, now widely used as a framework for air transport management courses, nonetheless remains unchanged. Part 1 of the book provides a strategic context within which to consider the industry's economics. Part 2 is built around a simple yet powerful model that relates operating revenue to operating cost; it examines the most important elements in demand and traffic, price and yield, output and unit cost. Part 3 probes more deeply into three critical aspects of capacity management: network management; fleet management; and revenue management. Part 4 concludes the book by exploring relationships between unit revenue, unit cost, yield, and load factor. Straight and Level has been written primarily for masters-level students on aviation management courses. The book should also be useful to final year undergraduates wanting to prepare for more advanced study. Amongst practitioners, it will appeal to established managers moving from functional posts into general management. More broadly, anyone with knowledge of the airline industry who wants to gain a deeper understanding of its economics at a practical level and an insight into the reasons for its financial volatility should find the book of interest. |

turkish air 777-300er: Seat 7a Sebastian Fitzek, 2021-05-13 Watch THE CALENDAR KILLER on Amazon Prime now - a gripping adaptation of Sebastian Fitzek's bestselling novel WALK ME HOME. Germany's king of the thriller takes to the skies with a terrifying and twisted new novel. You know your fear is irrational, you've checked the statistics. Flying is safer than driving – nineteen times safer. Irrational, perhaps. But you're not wrong. Mats Krüger is terrified of flying. But his daughter, Nele, is about to give birth to his first grandchild, so, for once, he's taking the risk and making the thirteen-hour flight from Buenos Aires to Berlin. Of course, he's taken precautions. He's bought the five statistically safest seats on the plane, as well as seat 7A – the spot where you are most likely to die in a plane accident – so no one can sit there. Just in case. But Mats has to give up seat 7A to another passenger. Moments later, he receives a phone call. Nele has been kidnapped. The caller has a single demand. Convince the pilot to crash the plane. Or Nele dies. |
turkish air 777-300er: TXL. Berlin Tegel Airport Meinhard Von Gerkan, Volkwin Marg, 2021-03-15 Berlin Tegel TXL is an icon of modern architecture. With the striking hexagonal shape of the main terminal building and its concept of check-in counters right at each gate, Tegel has made air travel history. Berliners are passionately nostalgic about Tegel, since it served as the window to the wider world for the once-isolated West Berlin. At the same time, this airport represents the start of architects Gerkan, Marg and Partners' (gmp) success story. Together with Klaus Nickels, the recently graduated Hamburg architects won the 1965 competition for building the new airport, which opened in 1974. This book celebrates TXL's whole story and glory. Numerous historical and contemporary photos, together with plans and drawings from gmp's archive show off Tegel's vibrant color scheme, overall design, and structural details down to the check-in counters with their rounded edges. Meinhard von Gerkan and Volkwin Marg provide a detailed account of this early commission, and the book includes an essay by Jürgen Tietz on the specific qualities of this unique air terminal and its historical significance. The first and definitive building monograph on Berlin's iconic Tegel Airport shows this architectural icon in its original appearance, without later alterations and additions. Richly illustrated with previously unpublished images, TXL. Berlin Tegel Airport traces the history of Tegel's construction and forty-five years of operations. |

turkish air 777-300er: Gideon's Children Howard G. Franklin, 2014-10-15 Set amidst the tumultuous and transformative 1960s, Gideon's Children tells the fascinating story of the idealistic young men and women who staffed the newly formed and expanded Public Defender Offices after the Supreme Court's momentous 1963 decision that mandated the right to counsel when charged with a crime. Facing virulent bias, they summoned a warrior spirit, and like Rocky in the courtroom, bravely led a revolution within the Criminal Justice System as part of the greater Civil Rights Movement. With the spotlight focused on five young Public Defenders fiercely battling prosecutors, cops, and judges within the raw environment of murder, rape, robbery, and drugs, as the intense drama unfolds, the novel weaves together the threads that form its essential lesson: That the power of the State is enormous, and that the only true protection against governmental abuse of power is the individual's supremely valuable constitutional rights! Increasingly relevant today in view of the 1984-like issues arising under the Patriot Act and highly invasive governmental spying, this lesson reminds that the more things change, the more they stay the same, as further evidenced by the disproportionate share of young black men in our prisons, and others killed for walking and driving while black. |
turkish air 777-300er: Mr Sia: Fly Past Ken Hickson, 2014-10-28 Introducing the life and times of a legend in international aviation — Lim Chin Beng — the man they called Mr SIA.Absorbing the life and work of Lim Chin Beng is like watching a fly past of airlines and aircraft old and new. In this book, his past comes to meet you in many forms — designs, shapes, figures, photographs, episodes, places, people and you discover the connections with business, society and international aviation today and into the future. Here's a man who was instrumental in taking the very basic components of a business — like a potter taking the clay — and creating what has become one of the world's leading brands, Singapore Airlines. But this airline 'specialist', trained as an economist, had more jobs to do. His broad range of interests — arts and sports, property and tourism — led to him being called on to do his 'national service' for Singapore. He was Ambassador to Japan for two terms and trade negotiator, chairman of the Singapore Tourism Board, Changi Airport International, Singapore Airshow, Singapore Press Holdings, Ascott Group, and ST Aerospace. Described as a quiet achiever and a visionary, this modest gentleman was not afraid to make bold decisions and take risks, even to the extent of setting up a budget airline, Valuair. Here was one man, who in his time, played many parts, on the world's stage and at home. |
turkish air 777-300er: Flying High in a Competitive Industry Loizos Th Heracleous, Jochen Wirtz, Nitin Pangarkar, 2009 Singapore Airlines (SIA) is widely acknowledged as one of the world's leading airlines, if not the best airline, globally. This book provides insights into a simple but intriguing question: How has SIA managed to outperform other flag-carriers for decades in an industry where it is notoriously difficult to succeed consistently? This updated second edition of Flying High in a Competitive Industry begins with an analysis of the airline industry and its key trends, moving on to a broad outline of SIA's strategic drivers of success. Empirical research was conducted at SIA to gain a deeper understanding of its strategy, core competencies and internal organisation, innovation processes and human resource practices, in order to instill strategy lessons that can inform the strategies of any organisation competing in intensely competitive industries. This book ends with some strategic lessons that apply to any organisation that aims to achieve sustainable success in hypercompetitive markets. |

turkish air 777-300er: Dragged Off David Anh Dao, 2021-03-16 A Vietnamese Refugee, a Viral Video, and the United Airlines Scandal That Started It All “His refusal to give up his seat on a United Airlines flight, and the ensuing assault he suffered, is emblematic of how far we, the people, still have to travel to create a world with liberty and justice for all.” —Marlena Fiol, PhD, globally recognized scholar and speaker and author of Nothing Bad Between Us Dr. David Dao was dragged off United Express Flight 3411 on April 9, 2017 after refusing to give up his seat. In the tradition of contemporary immigrant stories comes a personal narrative of the many small but significant acts of racial discrimination faced on the way to the American Dream. The unseen effects of discrimination. The United Airlines scandal of 2017 garnered over a million views on YouTube. A result of an overbooking overlook, security officials forcibly removed Dr. Dao after refusing to give up his seat. He awoke in the hospital to a concussion, a broken nose, several broken teeth, and worldwide attention. Things aren’t always fair for an immigrant, but according to Dr. Dao, you can prevail if you firmly advocate for yourself. A response to a lifetime of oppressive acts. Why was Dr. Dao so adamant on his right to a seat? His entire life had led to that moment. A Vietnamese refugee, he fled his home country during the fall of Saigon. He was stranded in the Indian Ocean, immigrated to the United States, enrolled in medical school for a second time, built a practice, and started a family-all the while battling the effects of discrimination and what he had to embrace as a result. This is his story. If you are moved by immigrant stories, or books like America for Americans, Minor Feelings, How to Be an Antiracist, or The Making of Asian America, then you’ll want to read Dr. David Dao's story, Dragged Off. |
