unr tuition with wue: Nevada's Great Recession Elliott Parker, 2017-07-26 Of all economic recessions experienced by the United States in the postwar period, the Great Recession that began in 2008 was the deepest, longest, and most destructive. Nevada was among the hardest hit states, its people reeling from the aftereffects, and the state government also experiencing a severe fiscal crisis. University of Nevada economics professor Elliott Parker and then-State Treasurer Kate Marshall make sense of what went wrong and why, with the hope the state will learn lessons to prevent past mistakes from being made again. This is a different kind of economics book. Parker uses his expertise from doing research on the East Asian fiscal crisis to give profound insights into what happened and how to avoid future catastrophes. Marshall personalizes it by providing vignettes of what it was actually like to be in the trenches and fighting the inevitable political battles that came up, and counteracting some of the falsehoods that certain politicians were spreading about the recession. unr tuition with wue: Western Undergraduate Exchange Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, 2010 The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is a regional tuition-reciprocity agreement that enables students from WICHE states to enroll in participating two- and four-year public institutions at 150 percent of the enrolling institution's resident tuition. WUE has been operating for almost 25 years and is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Since 1999, WUE has provided WICHE students and their parents discounts on more than 236,600 annual tuition bills--a benefit of a remarkable $1.4 billion dollars in estimated tuition savings. And since the WUE program began in 1988, WICHE state residents have saved on more than 300,100 annual tuition bills. The program continues to grow: in 2010-11 some 26,700 WUE students saved $210.8 million dollars in tuition costs. This year, WUE students saved an average of $7,891. A graph included in this report shows the continued growth of the program in enrollment and savings over the last five years. Students can choose from 145 participating WUE institutions. California State University's Monterey Bay is WUE's newest member, and will begin enrolling students through WUE in fall 2011. This fall's WUE headcount demonstrates that WUE students know where the current and future job opportunities are. Their Top Ten majors are directly aligned with some of the West's most crucial workforce needs. They are: (1) healthcare; (2) the biological and biomedical sciences; (3) engineering; (4) business; (5) education; (6) the social sciences; (7) visual and performing arts; (8) psychology; (9) parks, recreation, leisure and fitness studies; and (10) communication and journalism.
