uah olli: Intelligent Agents for Telecommunication Environments Dominique Gaïti, Olli Martikainen, 2002 Telecommunication systems become more dynamic and complex with the introduction of new services, mobility and active networks. The use of artificial intelligence and intelligent agents, integrated reasoning, learning, co-operating and mobility capabilities to provide predictive control are among possible ways forward. There is a need to investigate performance, flow and congestion control, intelligent control environment, security service creation and deployment and mobility of users, terminals and services. New approaches include the introduction of intelligence in nodes and terminal equipment in order to manage and control the protocols, and the introduction of intelligence mobility in the global network. These tools aim to provide the quality of service and adapt the existing infrastructure to be able to handle the new functions and achieve the necessary co-operation between nodes. The contributors, who come from research establishments all over the world, address these problems and provide ways forward in this fast-developing area of intelligence in networks.

uah olli: Excerptiones de Prisciano Aelfric (Abbot of Eynsham.), Priscian, 2002 When the famous Anglo-Saxon scholar lfric wrote the first grammar in a European vernacular, he used as his direct source the Excerptiones de Prisciano excerpts from major curriculum authors of the medieval schools, including Donatus, Isidore and Priscian himself . The tenth-century text, probably of English origin, most probably compiled by lfric, is an ambitious compendium of grammatical lore, and it is, with the exception of lfric's own Grammar, arguably the most sophisticated Latin-learning text of the Anglo-Saxon age. Edited here for the first time, the Excerptiones appear with all scholia, an English translation, and a full contextual introduction. DAVID W. PORTER is Professor of English, Southern University, Baton Rouge.

uah olli: Countablock Christopher Franceschelli, Peskimo, 2014-08-05 Following on the heels of a successful abecedary, Countablock features thick pages cut into the shape of each numeral, creating a peek-through guessing game around the number form itself. One acorn becomes . . . one oak tree From snowmen to puddles and eggs to chicks, quantities are illustrated twice: both before and after their transformations. As children interact with the pages, they will familiarize themselves not only with the numbers 1-100 and associated quantities, but with each numeral's physicality--angles, holes, and curves, both front and back. Die-cut numerals include 1-10, and 20-100 by tens. Illustrated by hip British design team Peskimo, this fresh take on the 1-2-3s encourages readers to manipulate numbers in a whole new way. Note: illustrations are in the style of vintage screen prints, with imperfect variations in color and texture. Also available: A BOX OF BLOCKS, featuring Alphablock, Countablock, and Dinoblock.

This hide-and-seek book will charm young children and reveal something new each time they look at the illustrations. Follow Stanley the mouse, a banjo-playing busker from London, on his very first trip around the world. Stanley joins Mrs. Crombie on her majestic airship, a beautiful hot air balloon that offers travelers unparalleled views. Together they visit fifteen far-flung locations, including Paris, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, Beijing, Namibia’s Etosha National Park, Moscow, Tokyo, Rome, Delhi, Germany’s Black Forest, Mexico City, Amsterdam, Seoul, and Barcelona, before returning home—although not without plenty of excitement! Stanley almost doesn’t make it past his first destination thanks to overindulging on delicious cheeses in Paris; he loses his hat in a breeze above the Great Wall of China; in Moscow, Stanley, and Mrs. Crombie discover they have a secret stowaway in the form of a fat black-and-white cat; and quite unintentionally, Stanley causes a stampede of elephants in Delhi. These and many more adventures await in this global addition to the Mice in the City series, which celebrates the culture of each destination through foods, festivals, and dress.   uah olli: Minimum Income Schemes in Europe International Labour Organisation, 2003 This book investigates the paradox of rich countries of Western Europe, who have high levels of poverty whilst proclaiming its eradication as one of the primary social and economic goals. It looks at how policies often do not achieve their goals, why countries need mechanisms to reduce wage inequality and why they choose to provide universal benefits instead of systems of selective benefits targeted at the poor. Along with cross-countries comparisons, the volume also presents analysis of the minimum income in France, Portugal, Italy, Finland, Ireland, Belgium, and Greece.

uah olli: Approaches to the History of Written Culture Martyn Lyons, Rita Marquilhas, 2017-08-07 This book investigates the history of writing as a cultural practice in a variety of contexts and periods. It analyses the rituals and practices determining intimate or ‘ordinary’ writing as well as bureaucratic and religious writing. From the inscribed images of ‘pre-literate’ societies, to the democratization of writing in the modern era, access to writing technology and its public and private uses are examined. In ten studies, presented by leading historians of scribal culture from seven countries, the book investigates the uses of writing in non-alphabetical as well as alphabetical script, in societies ranging from Native America and ancient Korea to modern Europe. The authors emphasise the material characteristics of writing, and in so doing they pose questions about the definition of writing itself. Drawing on expertise in various disciplines, they give an up-to-date account of the current state of knowledge in a field at the forefront of ‘Book History’.
