tonad essential biology: Essential Physics John Matolyak, Ajawad Haija, 2013-12-17 Fluency with physics fundamentals and problem-solving has a collateral effect on students by enhancing their analytical reasoning skills. In a sense, physics is to intellectual pursuits what strength training is to sports. Designed for a two-semester algebra-based course, Essential Physics provides a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of physics central to many fields. It omits material often found in much larger texts that cannot be covered in a year-long course and is not needed for non-physics majors. Instead, this text focuses on providing a solid understanding of basic physics and physical principles. While not delving into the more specialized areas of the field, the text thoroughly covers mechanics, electricity and magnetism, light, and modern physics. This book is appropriate for a course in which the goals are to give the students a grasp of introductory physics and enhance their analytical problem-solving skills. Each topic includes worked examples. Math is introduced as necessary, with some applications in biology, chemistry, and safety science also provided. If exposure to more applications, special topics, and concepts is desired, this book can be used as a problem-solving supplement to a more inclusive text. |

tonad essential biology: Basic Concepts in Biochemistry Hiram F. Gilbert, 1992 A new addition to the PreTest product line, this review book covers only those topics in biochemistry which, through the author's experience, market research and in-depth reviewing were viewed by medical students as being most difficult to comprehend. The text is organized by general concepts, which are then subdivided in order of increasing complexity. Each section begins with a short summary of key points. The book's unique approach stresses the mastering of fundamental concepts instead of just the memorization of facts. Thus the student is encouraged to reason through problems, and to better retain what he/she learns in the course. This text can be used in concert with the sixth edition of PreTest Biochemistry to form an excellent review source for students taking biochemistry exams or Part I of the National Board Exam. |
tonad essential biology: Molecular Biology and Pathogenicity of Mycoplasmas Shmuel Razin, Richard Herrmann, 2007-05-08 was the result of the efforts of Robert Cleverdon. The rapidly developing discipline of molecular biology and the rapidly expanding knowledge of the PPLO were brought together at this meeting. In addition to the PPLO specialists, the conference invited Julius Marmur to compare PPLO DNA to DNA of other organisms; David Garfinkel, who was one of the first to develop computer models of metabolism; Cyrus Levinthal to talk about coding; and Henry Quastler to discuss information theory constraints on very small cells. The conference was an announcement of the role of PPLO in the fundamental understanding of molecular biology. Looking back 40-some years to the Connecticut meeting, it was a rather bold enterprise. The meeting was international and inter-disciplinary and began a series of important collaborations with influences resonating down to the present. If I may be allowed a personal remark, it was where I first met Shmuel Razin, who has been a leading figure in the emerging mycoplasma research and a good friend. This present volume is in some ways the fulfillment of the promise of that early meeting. It is an example of the collaborative work of scientists in building an understanding of fundamental aspects of biology. |

tonad essential biology: Chemistry, Biology and Cancer: the Bond Amin Elsersawi Ph.D., 2009-07-17 This book is about how your body works, and about the chemical reaction involved inside your body. Understanding the biology and the chemistry of your body may help you to understand how cancers grow and spread, and how treatments might affect you. In this book, biology will deal with the activities and characteristics of all organisms in human which fall into two major categories: reproduction metabolism. The mechanism of reproduction is now known to be controlled by the properties of certain large molecules called nucleic acids that transcribed the entire DNA helix at once into mRNA and also the cross selection between alleles(alleles control the same inherited characteristics) in both parents. The other major activity of the human’s living organisms is metabolism, the physical, chemical, and physiological processes by which energy and synthesis of proteins, hormones, and enzymes are used in such activities as reproduction (including growth), activities, and responsiveness to the environment, which also constitutes the activities of the nervous system. The nitrogen bases form the double-strand of DNA through weak hydrogen bond; have different shapes constituting adenosine, guanine thymine, and cytosine. Now that we’ve looked at the introduction, we should look at the structure of the chemical level that includes all chemical levels that includes alchemical substances necessary for life, Chapter 1. Chapter 2 deals with the physiology that deals with the internal working of living things, including functions such as metabolism, respiration, energy, and internal processes. Chapter 3 is the main core of the book that will discuss causes of cancers focusing on cellular oxidation and reduction due to excess donation or absorption of hydrogen. Avoidance of those elements such as Aluminum(Al), Silicon(Si), Phosphorus(P), Sulfur(S), Fluorine(F) and Chlorine(Cl) could reduce the risk of cancer due to the non-oxidative breakdown of certain substances. |

tonad essential biology: Amaranth Biology, Chemistry, and Technology Octavio Paredes-Lopez, 2018-01-10 This book is devoted to amaranth, a plant to which 45 species are indigenous to the Mesoamerican region and 10 others originated in Africa, Asia, and Europe. Amaranth was the foundation of the extensive North and South American ancient civilizations and is still important in the agriculture of more recent Indian cultures. However, this plant nearly disappeared after the Spanish conquest. In view of the outstanding agronomic performance of the plant and the high nutritional value of the grain, it is now becoming an important crop in various regions of the world. Progress in the utilization of amaranth is directly related to scientific and technical information on its biological, physical, and chemical properties. Amaranth: Biology, Chemistry, and Technology begins with a chapter on the use of tissue culture, molecular biology, and genetic engineering techniques for crop improvement. The next few chapters deal with classical genetics, traditional plant breeding, and plant physiology. Following chapters review the properties of storage and leaf proteins, carbohydrates (especially starch), and seed oil. The potential of amaranth for new food products and popping is discussed, and commercialization and marketing of amaranth and its products are described. The book also emphasizes the outstanding nutritional properties of amaranth. |
