tarzan vs anaconda: Tarzan and The Martian Legion Jake Saunders, 2024-02-13 Tarzan and The Martian Legion is a story too big to be contained to one world, one age, or one universe. A pantheon of heroes including Tarzan and John Carter combat a foe across planets, dimensions, and time. The epic account takes readers not only to Africa and Barsoom, but to new worlds, with new heroes in the grandest Burroughsian tradition. - Scott Tracy Griffin Praise for Tarzan and The Martian Legion An unreserved recommendation from Harlan Ellison: Get yourself a copy of THE MARTIAN LEGION!!!, a brand-new novel by Jake Saunders based on, and continuing, the ever-popular Edgar Rice Burroughs chronicles of John Carter of Mars or Barsoom, Tarzan, and other memorable pulp fiction stellars, all set in a story by Saunders -- you may have knowledge of his wildly original Texas-Israeli War novel (co-written with Howard Waldrop) some years ago from Ballantine -- or know him as a pulp/comics enthusiast/author who writes a good page, many of which are in this magnificent homage to many of the most lasting popular fictional icons in our collective memory. Bringing me to a wholly-insufficient description of this BREATHTAKING novel. Go thee, with my stoutest urging, and possess a copy for a lifetime. - Harlan Ellison

tarzan vs anaconda: Linguistic Meaning Keith Allan, 2014-02-03 Dr Keith Allan presents a coherent, consistent and comprehensive account of linguistic meaning, centred around an informally presented theory of meaning. It is intended for graduate and undergraduate students of linguistics, or any linguist curious about what a theory of meaning should seek to accomplish and the way to achieve that aim. The work assumes that the primary task of a theory of linguistic meaning is to describe the meaning of speech acts. This in turn presupposes a theory of semantics and a theory of prosodic meaning, as well as a proper treatment of the co-operative principle, context and background information. These matters are dealt with in detail. The second task of a theory of linguistic meaning is to identify what meaning is, to explain the relationships between sense and denotation, and to explicate the nature of meaningful properties and meaning relations. These matters are fully covered, and the work concludes with a summary of the principle arguments presented.
tarzan vs anaconda: You Tarzan Me Jane Joseph Dopp, 2024-03-01 Submit Good Respect Better Through the lens of Tarzan’s jungle—a world both primal and profound—Submit Good Respect Better dives headfirst into the complexities of faith, relationships, and personal growth. This is no self-help manual in disguise or a sermon hiding behind metaphors; instead, it’s a sharp, witty exploration of what it means to live in alignment with God’s design while wrestling with the wild contradictions of human nature. Here, the jungle becomes a mirror: the tangled vines, towering trees, and untamed beauty reflecting the challenges we face navigating our faith, our roles, and our relationships. With clever humor and incisive introspection, this book cuts through clichés and instead delivers timeless biblical truths in a way that is both refreshingly honest and deeply resonant. More than a guide, Submit Good Respect Better is an invitation to rethink your place in the grand, chaotic ecosystem of life. It beckons you to consider questions you’ve perhaps avoided: How do submission and respect intersect in a world that values control? How do we grow into our God-designed roles while learning to tame the jungle within? And perhaps most importantly, what does it look like to respect better—not out of obligation, but from a place of faith-filled intention and love? Whether you find yourself swinging wildly between independence and intimacy, or simply trying to find your footing in life’s dense underbrush, this book will make you laugh, think, and ultimately lean into the profound truths that have always been waiting—hidden in the jungle of your soul.

tarzan vs anaconda: Lonesome George Jorge Sotirios, 2012-02-15 Lonesome George is a comic odyssey that combines travel adventure and comedy in a journey of epic proportions. Author Jorge Sotirios illuminates the beauty of the South American landscape, interweaving its history, culture and people, in his mock heroic quest. Beginning with the writer lured to South American by an Argentine beauty, his journey commences across the equator, through the Amazon jungle and climaxes in the austere Galapagos Islands. Incorporating angels in Argentina to sham Peruvian shaman. From Amazombies appearing on midnight boats, to visiting the lost city of Fordlandia. Accompanying ecowarriors to far -flung villages where jaguars roam, the writer ultimately finds the site of the legendary Amazon warrior women, gliding over the Mirror of the Moon Lake where everything is doubled. The alluring pink dolphin in the Amazon River, said to charm whoever encounters it, is a constant presence. Missionaries and Tarzans coexist with the cult of Che Guevara, with serious topics such as oil exploitation, deforestation and drought. Lonesome George is South America as seen from street and river level and a life- affirming portrayal of people and human emotion as Sotirios' confronts his doppelganger, Lonesome George, the last surviving tortoise of his species.

tarzan vs anaconda: Thy Will Be Done Gerard Colby, Charlotte Dennett, 2017-11-21 A “blistering exposé” of the USA’s secret history of financial, political, and cultural exploitation of Latin America in the 20th century, with a new introduction (Publishers Weekly). What happened when a wealthy industrialist and a visionary evangelist unleashed forces that joined to subjugate an entire continent? Historians Gerard Colby and Charlotte Dennett tell the story of the forty-year campaign led by Standard Oil scion Nelson Rockefeller and Wycliffe Bible Translators founder William Cameron Townsend to establish a US imperial beachhead in Central and South America. Beginning in the 1940s, future Vice President Rockefeller worked with the CIA and allies in the banking industry to prop up repressive governments, devastate the Amazon rain forest, and destabilize local economies—all in the name of anti-Communism. Meanwhile, Townsend and his army of missionaries sought to undermine the belief systems of the region’s indigenous peoples and convert them to Christianity. Their combined efforts would have tragic and long-lasting repercussions, argue the authors of this “well-documented” (Los Angeles Times) book—the product of eighteen years of research—which legendary progressive historian Howard Zinn called “an extraordinary piece of investigative history. Its message is powerful, its data overwhelming and impressive.”

Harry Horsham, the owner of a logging company, organizes his men into a complex search party to help find the girls. Each day that passes without them being found is a day too many. Not only do the girls have to worry about the unknown dangers of the rainforest, they also have to worry about another search party that hopes to find them. An established gang of human traffickers also takes up the challenge of finding the lost girls. However, their intentions may be more sinister than what the rainforest has in store for them. Can the Balata sisters survive in the rainforest and will the right search party find them first?   tarzan vs anaconda: I Fight for a Living Louis Moore, 2017-09-11 The black prizefighter labored in one of the few trades where an African American man could win renown: boxing. His prowess in the ring asserted an independence and powerful masculinity rare for black men in a white-dominated society, allowing him to be a man--and thus truly free. Louis Moore draws on the life stories of African American fighters active from 1880 to 1915 to explore working-class black manhood. As he details, boxers bought into American ideas about masculinity and free enterprise to prove their equality while using their bodies to become self-made men. The African American middle class, meanwhile, grappled with an expression of public black maleness they saw related to disreputable leisure rather than respectable labor. Moore shows how each fighter conformed to middle-class ideas of masculinity based on his own judgment of what culture would accept. Finally, he argues that African American success in the ring shattered the myth of black inferiority despite media and government efforts to defend white privilege.

tarzan vs anaconda: The Lost Soul: The Journey of Faith Leading Into the Heart Of a Soul Rhonda Buchanan, 2022-08-01 For thirty-four years, I lived my life placing God in the category as the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, and the Easter bunny. I attended a church for weddings and funerals. I hated both. Something about the chapels always made me anxious and nervous. Maybe it was because of the way I felt about a God I didn't believe in. At thirty-four years old, I was set in my ways when it came to any type of religion. I was happy with my life. I had a wonderful husband, a company that was thriving, a home I loved, a nice car, and we took vacations often. I didn't want for anything. I also worked for everything. It was not handed to me on a silver platter. I grew up in poverty, a broken home, along with bouncing from one place to another through my teens. I was determined to be successful, and by my standards, I had made it. The only thing that I failed at was the religion topic. My husband would always try to get me to go to church or change my view. For almost a decade, he tried, but it fell on deaf ears. We would disagree about it, and I refused to participate in anything religious. I thought I was doing a great job and had my life together. That could be far from the truth. I couldn't see it. It was not until God himself visited me in my living room (He knew he would not find me sitting in a church pew or even near one). That's the day I found out I had it all wrong, also the day that my husband's prayers were answered. However, he never expected my reaction or how it would ultimately affect him as well and change his life. God wanted me to give up everything I worked so hard for. However, my husband didn't sign up for that. So he too was faced with very hard decisions. Are you wondering what God told me? Well, he told me to find a lady named Hellen in another country (Nicaragua, to be exact). Let's just say my life changed that instant. First of all, I had to tell my husband I am changing the way I live and placed my most prized assets on the back burner-my marriage, my career, everything I struggled and worked so hard for. All my time, energy, resources are now going to be devoted to God. You know, the one I knew nothing about.
