rpo football: One Play Many Ways Kenny Simpson, 2021-11-19 The premise of this book is that an offensive system built from conceptual plays will be versatile, yet simple for the players. Teaching the coach and players to learn to see the game as fluid, instead of a rigid set of plays. For example, in many systems an offense will run 36 lead as a play. If the defense aligns perfectly to stop this run, they have a few rules to help, but are pretty much tied to running the 3 back through the 6 hole. If they want to run the ball with another back or run it a hole tighter, they will simply change the play. If they were teaching this as a concept it could be called Iso or Blast or whatever the coach chooses for the concept. The rules of the concept would dictate the hole the offense wanted to attack based on the alignment of the defense. The runner could be tagged to anyone in the backfield. This allows for an offense to have a more fluid streamlined look that takes advantage of what is presented by the defense instead of a rigid system that can become wordy or difficult to understand. |

rpo football: Coaching the Quarterback Mesh David Weitz, 2016-07-21 The QB-RB mesh is one of the most universal, and under coached, skills in modern football. From Flexbone/Wing-T based option attacks to Spread Zone Read concepts the mesh is the one skill that must be mastered to have an effective offense. The mesh is the one skill with the highest return on investment for coaching time. If done successfully a well read and executed mesh can cancel out up to three players. A poorly read mesh will result in a loss of yards in a best case scenario, and a turnover in a worst case scenario. Coaching the Quarterback Mesh gives coaches a system to teach this skill by breaking it down into five steps. These steps are then broken down further where the specific coaching points for each step are detailed. Lastly the book takes the system and applies it to the main plays that have a QB-RB mesh. This includes; Midline, Inside Veer, Outside Veer, Inside Zone, Outside Zone and Inverted Power. Take the next step in coaching your Quarterbacks and created a high powered offense with Coaching the Quarterback Mesh. |

rpo football: Game Practice System Rick Butler, Lisa Hargitt, 2019-01-28 We feel there is a better way to practice the game of football. The standard way most coaches organize and conduct a practice has just been copied and pasted since the Vince Lombardi days. Quite simply, we as coaches have just duplicated the practice process from our own days as a player. Schemes have changed, players have changed, and society has changed. But, practices for the most part have not. This book will attempt to convey why S2A Game Practice System (GPS) is an edge of the knife way to conduct a football practice. The Surface to Air System (S2A), is an offensive consulting service. This book will detail our thoughts from our offensive perspective, but the principles can be applied to all three phases of the game (Offense, Defense, Special Teams). In introducing this outside the box way of looking at something new in the game of football, we challenge you as a coach to take this information and determine if there's truly a better way of doing things. Ask yourself, Is the way we've been conducting practices since I was a player really the most effective way? Offenses have evolved, the passing game has evolved, and off-season methods of training have evolved. Why hasn't practice evolved? The objective of this book is to make football a better game through the utilization of S2A GPS. It is our specific objective to check the following boxes when developing this practice method: -Get more kids out for football-Create scenarios in which players have a richer knowledge of the game-Create practice situations recreating game situations that lead to more success -Create a safer game-Score more points-Win more games Again, we check those boxes with our main tenant: If any activity is done in practice that does not directly have an impact on the actual game, we do not do it. It is our sincere hope that football coaches will take from this work the following: To implement a system that allows for a safer game by reducing the amount of time preparing, that reduces the repetitions for contact, and thus lessens the eventuality of injuries.-To implement a system that eliminates the need for the overuse of contact, but heightens the ability for game preparedness.-To implement a system that captures and keeps the learning attention span of even the lowest level learner-To implement a system that elevates the abilities of second and third teamers, and thus increases their value to the overall makeup and depth of the squad-To implement a system that elevates the practice role of each member of the coaching staff-To implement a system that leads to both recruiting more and keeping more young people playing the game-To implement a system that leads to more wins |
rpo football: Flyover Football Ian Boyd, 2019-08-30 The Big 12 has been defined by spread offenses for years now but every level of football is coming to be dominated by the hurry-up, no-huddle style of spread. How did the Big 12 conference, with its smaller populations and flyover country, become the frontier for a trend that is defining modern football? |
rpo football: Football Revolution Bart Wright, 2020-03-01 For the last twenty-five years, the most dominant offensive strategy in college football has been the spread offense, which relies on empty backfields, lots of receivers and passing, and no huddles between plays. Where the spread offense started, why it took so long to take hold, and the evolution of its many variations are the much-debated mysteries that Bart Wright sets about solving in this book. Football Revolution recovers a key, overlooked, part of the story. The book reveals how Jack Neumeier, a high school football coach in California in the 1970s, built an offensive strategy around a young player named John Elway, whose father was a coach at nearby California State University, Northridge. One of the elder Elway’s assistant coaches, Dennis Erickson, then borrowed Neumeier’s innovations and built on them, bringing what we now know as the spread offense onto the national stage at the University of Miami in the 1980s. With Erickson’s career as a lens, this book shows how the inspiration of a high school coach became the dominant offense in college football, prepping a whole generation of quarterbacks for the NFL and forever changing the way the game is played. |

rpo football: Read and Shoot Dan Gonzalez, 2019-03-05 Taking advantage of the vast informational resources available to him, Dan Gonzalez developed a passing system that combined ideas from some of the most vaunted offenses in pro and college football. He later enhanced that system so that youth players could learn and execute the same concepts and techniques. Further, the same concepts have been used to aid high schools in not only developing school record holders, but perennial playoff contenders and state champions as well. Gonzalez now delves into the theory and teaching that goes beyond the playbook and into the coaching behind the X's and O's. |
