rei jaume 1: El rei Jaume I Tomàs Martínez i Romero, 2008 La figura del monarca Jaume I (1208-1276), tot i que ha estat percebuda de manera molt diferent als diversos dominis de la Corona, va ser mitificada aviat per les grans cròniques medievals. En el cas mallorquí i valencià, els dos regnes que va conquistar als musulmans i va repoblar amb colons cristians, el personatge s’envolta a més de l’aurèola de rei fundador. Amb tot, i més enllà del fets, actes i paraules reials, del seu Llibre i de les conquestes, el segle que li va tocar viure constitueix un moment culminant en molts processos històrics (tant de creixement econòmic com de maduració institucional), culturals i lingüístics, i per això digne d’estudi i d’aprofundiment. La Fundació Germà Colón Domènech ha volgut associar-se a la commemoració del vuitè centenari de la naixença del rei Jaume I amb un volum d'estudis on es conjuminen investigacions amb panorames i estats de la qüestió necessaris, tots elaborats per especialistes prestigiosos. Certament, encara no ha estat tot dit sobre el monarca i la seva actuació, com ho demostren les aportacions i els variats punts de vista amb què els diversos temes hi són tractats, interessants tant per al món erudit com per al públic en general. El volum és estructurat en quatre grans seccions: la primera, dedicada a La Corona d'Aragó a l'època de Jaume I; la segona, a Contexts i panorames; la tercera secció s'ocupa d'El Llibre dels fets i la historiografia medieval, mentre que la quarta i darrera tracta de La llengua del segle XIII. rei jaume 1: The Catalan Chronicles Almudena Blasco Vallés, 2020-12-14 On the occasion of the celebration of Ramon Muntaner’s Year in 2015, the Biblioteca de Catalunya and the Ministry of Culture of the Catalan Government have published Les cròniques catalanes. Through the voices of the researchers Josep Maria Solé Sabaté, José Enrique Ruiz-Domènec, Raül Sanchis Francés and Núria Silleras Fernández, who tell us about the four great chronicles from a current point of view, the reader is introduced to the medieval world, the arts, the festivals and the role of women. The work gives an account of the most relevant facts found in the chronicles and provides a selection of the most significant manuscripts kept at the Biblioteca de Catalunya, a preservation carried out by historian Almudena Blasco. In addition, the book contains a selection of thirty-nine passages from the various chronicles, accompanied by images of the original documents and their transcriptions. Finally, the book includes a bibliographic work that collects the codices and printed documents that transmit these chronicles, a task curated by Tània Alaix, librarian at the Biblioteca de Catalunya. All content and materials are now gathered in this open access e-book in a new and innovative format, published under a Creative Commons license. |

In a world shaped by God, how did they treat environments marked by religious difference? The Keys to Bread and Wine explores the answers to these questions in Valencia in the later Middle Ages. When Christians conquered the city in 1238, it was already one of the richest agricultural areas in the Mediterranean thanks to a network of irrigation canals constructed under Muslim rule. Despite this constructed environment, drought, flooding, plagues, and other natural disasters continued to confront civic leaders in the later medieval period. Abigail Agresta argues that the city's Christian rulers took a technocratic approach to environmental challenges in the fourteenth century but by the mid-fifteenth century relied increasingly on religious ritual, reflecting a dramatic transformation in the city's religious identity. Using the records of Valencia's municipal council, she traces the council's efforts to expand the region's infrastructure in response to natural disasters, while simultaneously rendering the landscape within the city walls more visibly Christian. This having been achieved, Valencia's leaders began by the mid-fifteenth century to privilege rogations and other ritual responses over infrastructure projects. But these appeals to divine aid were less about desperation than confidence in the city's Christianity. Reversing traditional narratives of technological progress, The Keys to Bread and Wine shows how religious concerns shaped the governance of the environment, with far-reaching implications for the environmental and religious history of medieval Iberia. |

rei jaume 1: Ramon Llull: vida i obres Villalba i Varneda, Pere, 2015-08-25 Amb motiu del setè centenari de la mort de Ramon Llull (1232-1316), un dels màxims exponents de la cultura i el pensament a Europa, l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans (IEC) i la Fundació Elsa Peretti publicaran l’estudi Ramon Llull. Vida i obres, de Pere Villalba, col·laborador del Raimundus Lullus Institut. Es tracta d’una obra de síntesi d’alta divulgació, resultat d’anys de recerca, que té l’objectiu de fer més accessibles els darrers cent cinquanta anys d’investigació global sobre la persona, el pensament i les obres de l’intel·lectual mallorquí. L’estudi consistirà en tres volums de més de mil pàgines cadascun i, per ara, se n’ha enllestit el primer. Abraça el període del 1232 al 1288, i analitza els números de l’1 al 32 de les obres del catàleg lul·lià; entre les quals hi ha el colossal Llibre de contemplació en Déu. Ramon Llull. Vida i obres exposa la vida de Ramon Llull i el treball intel·lectual que va dur a terme, presenta les diverses etapes biogràfiques del personatge i insereix, en cada període, l’anàlisi de l’obra o les obres que escriu. L’estudi consisteix en tres volums. Després d’aquest primer, hi haurà un segon volum, pràcticament enllestit, dedicat al període 1289-1311. El segon volum se centra en les cent cinquanta-quatre obres que segueixen les analitzades en el volum anterior. El tercer volum comprendrà del 1312 al 1316 i analitzarà les vuitanta-cinc obres restants. En l’elaboració de l’estudi, Villalba ha tingut en compte totes les fonts disponibles: la Vita coetanea, una espècie d’autobiografia; les dues-centes quaranta-quatre obres autèntiques de Llull que s’han conservat, i els més de cent documents familiars, personals i col·laterals que informen sobre la seva vida. Ha tingut presents, també, tota la bibliografia anterior i el context històric i doctrinal en el qual es mou Llull. En analitzar cada obra de Llull, Villalba en dóna textos en català, tradueix textos en llatí i els comenta. Ateses la complexitat i l’originalitat de l’obra lul·liana, especialment pel que fa als mètodes lògics que utilitzava, Villalba reprodueix, analitza i fa funcionar la maquinària lul·liana: les escales, les lletres, les figures, les cambres, amb els principis, les definicions, els abecedaris, les combinacions i les qüestions, és a dir, tota l’artilleria del sistema universal de pensar que inventa Llull. Això l’ha obligat a idear un llibre amb recursos gràfics complexos, com ara l’ús de tintes de color, de manera que és una obra atractiva i al mateix temps de maneig no simple. |

rei jaume 1: The Hospitallers, the Mediterranean and Europe Nikolas Jaspert, 2016-03-09 Modern study of the Hospitallers, of other military-religious orders, and of their activities both in the Mediterranean and in Europe has been deeply influenced by the work of Anthony Luttrell. To mark his 75th birthday in October 2007 twenty-three colleagues from ten different countries have contributed to this volume. The first section focuses on the crusading period in the Holy Land, considering the Hospital in Jerusalem, relations with the Assassins, finances, indulgences, transportation and the careers of the brothers and knights. The second and third sections move to the later Middle Ages, when the Hospitallers had their centre on Rhodes, and military and charitable activities in the East had to be supported with men and money from the West. The papers in the second section consider the Hospitallers on Rhodes, relations between Rhodes and the West and plans for crusades, while the third section includes papers on the Hospitallers in the Iberian Peninsula and in Hungary, the territorial administration of the Order of Montesa in Valencia, a plan to transfer the headquarters of the Teutonic Order from Prussia to Frisia, and a Hospitaller reconsideration of warfare and learning on the eve of the council of Trent. The final paper proposes new definitions and guidelines for future work on the military-religious orders. rei jaume 1: Military Orders and Crusades Alan Forey, 2024-10-28 The first eight studies in this volume seek to address a series of questions concerning the emergence and the role of the military orders in the 12th and 13th centuries: the reasons for the appearance of the institution, the recruitment and instruction of novices, and, though the military orders were predominantly male organisations, the role of women within them. Dr Forey then turns to the orders’ role in the Crusades, both against the infidel and in ’Holy Wars’ against Christians, and their activities in ransoming captives. The last studies focus on the development of the Order of St John, and on two minor military orders; one of these, that on St Thomas of Acre, draws attention to the relations between England and the Holy Land, the subject also of the final paper, on the crusading plans of Henry III. |

This e-book introduces us to one of the most universal Catalan thinkers of all time. The e-book includes interviews - conducted by Joan Santanach - with various scholars: Lola Badia, Alexander Fidora, Amador Vega and Albert Soler, with a further contribution from Ricard Torrents, leading expert on Jacint Verdaguer. The book is complemented by readings of extracts from Llull’s texts by the aforementioned scholars and with a musical reconstruction by Antoni Rossell. The texts, by Joan Santanach, help to illustrate a number of different facets of Ramon Llull, as well as presenting a selection of the most significant manuscripts and printed books held in the Biblioteca de Catalunya. rei jaume 1: Ramon Llull as a Vernacular Writer Lola Badia, Joan Santanach i Suñol, Albert Soler i Llopart, 2016 The authors maintain that Llull was an atypical 'scholar' because he enjoyed a form of access to knowledge that differed from the norm and because he organized the production and dissemination of his writings in a creative and unconventional fashion. Ramon Llull (1232-1316), mystic, missionary, philosopher and author of narrative and poetry, wrote both in Latin and in the vernacular claiming he had been given a new science to unveil the Truth. This book shows why his Latin andvernacular books cannot be read as if they had been written in isolation from one another. Llull was an atypical 'scholar' because he enjoyed a form of access to knowledge that differed from the norm and because he organized theproduction and dissemination of his writings in a creative and unconventional fashion. At a time when learned texts and university culture were conveyed for the most part using the vehicle of Latin, he wrote a substantial proportion of his theological and scientific works in his maternal Catalan while, at the same time, he was deeply involved in the circulation of such works in other Romance languages. These circumstances do not preclude the fact that a considerable number of the titles comprising his extensive output of more than 260 works were written directly in Latin, or that he had various books which were originally conceived in Catalan subsequently translated or adapted intoLatin.
