rto training online: Learning to Love Sue M. Holdsworth, 2024-08-23 Many churches actively seek to welcome migrants through various church-based activities such as language lessons, cooking, or gardening clubs. These and similar activities often aim to be missional or evangelistic, seeking to communicate the love of God and neighbor. The author explores how the love of God and neighbor can be expressed effectively through the implementation of pastoral care principles and practices. These include expressing love through empathy, hospitality, group prayer, and spiritual formation. When the functions of pastoral care are evident, mission and evangelism occur naturally and at the appropriate time. This book is the result of the author’s PhD study of four church-based intercultural initiatives aimed at welcoming migrants. Two churches offering English conversation classes, a sewing club, and employment training classes were observed. Volunteers and pastoral staff were interviewed, and church documents were examined. This empirical research demonstrates that when volunteers are trained in principles and practices of pastoral care, when church systems and supervision support them in their tasks, and when group planning and reflection occur, the love of God and neighbor will be effectively expressed to migrants attending these initiatives.

These are the key focuses for individual and collective contributions to this edited volume, which provide discussions about what constitutes learning across working lives and how this differs from lifelong learning and lifelong education. Accounts of learning across the working lives of social workers, doctors working in hospitals and in general practice, teaching, aviation, nursing, mining, aged care and more. These accounts advance a range of ways in which workers’ learning across working lives is being supported and how this support is also linked to other changes, such as to the occupational practice in which they engage.
rto training online: Farming Alpacas Fiona Vanderbeek, 2018-03-28 For many new entrants to the alpaca industry a major allure is the thought of breeding these beautiful, intelligent and easily-handled animals. The challenging question that new breeders must ask themselves is “Why do I want to breed alpacas?” This leads to other vital questions – “Huacaya, suri, or both?”; “White, coloured, or a bit of everything?”; “How much do I need to spend?”; “How many should I buy?” For some people purchasing alpacas, the initial reason is as a small-scale hobby farm. However for many of these people, as they begin to breed and learn more about their alpacas, their focus changes and they use their knowledge to improve the quality of their stock – whether for fibre production, for stud breeding, or with an eye to winning show ribbons. This book is a basic guide to some of the skills and practices of alpaca production. This guide covers information on alpaca production including health, breeding and farming, nutritional needs and breeding to improve fleece.   rto training online: A Field Guide to Ecological Survey Jennifer Laffan, 2025-01-01 Ecology is the study of organisms in their environment. An ecological survey is a stocktake of flora and fauna on a particular site, and this publication is a guide to preparing to visit a site and record the plant and animal life found there. You could investigate a site for general interest, or you could have a specific reason such as to: - stocktake and document vegetation and fauna - find out if there is need for remediation or bush regeneration - investigate the possibility of the site being a suitable habitat for native fauna or for recreational use. A survey could inform proposed development about location of access roads so that there is minimal disturbance to native flora and fauna, or for protection of wetland areas. A survey can also be used to assess success or otherwise of projects that have already begun or been completed for example, bush regeneration or pesticide application. Information in this book advises how to: - become familiar with the site: physical and historical aspects - protect cultural heritage on the site - obtain permits and other legal requirements - consult stakeholders - establish a survey area - conduct the survey - protect species from biosecurity risk - record and report results - work safely on the site. This publication is a practical introductory guide to ecological surveys. It identifies all the key requirements and steps in preparing and conducting successful site assessments.

rto training online: On the Problem of Foundation Skills and the Futures of Work Garry Argent, Peter Kelly, 2025-03-27 This book provides an analysis of how global capitalism, digital disruption, and new worlds of work have reshaped ideas about language, literacy and numeracy (foundation) skills in a neoliberal foundation skills apparatus in Australia since the 1980s. The book uses Michel Foucault’s genealogical approach to producing critical ‘histories of our present’. From this perspective it examines how these disruptions have transformed what was once a voluntary, not-for-profit community ‘movement’ of education for migrants and marginalised people into a sophisticated government, community, and for-profit training and skills sector which imagines foundation skills learners as choice making consumers.

rto training online: Careless State Mark Considine, 2022-10-05 The lives of all Australians are profoundly affected by the quality of social services available, but a long list of royal commissions and public inquiries have revealed them to be failing. In The Careless State Mark Considine shows that the preferred model of reform has failed to adapt and improve. In the 1980s Australian governments faced rapidly increasing demand for services in areas like employment assistance, aged care, childcare and vocational education and training; to respond to this challenge, governments led by Bob Hawke and Paul Keating pioneered the introduction of service markets, where private companies compete with public institutions and charities in newly constructed social services. This 'choice revolution' was embraced and extended by the Howard government. Market choice continues to drive reform across a wide spectrum of programs and social services. Considine's detailed investigation demonstrates conclusively that important aspects of the experiment with social service markets have failed. Weak quality control, systematic rorting and entrenched disadvantage have become the norm. Private business interests and shareholders' interest have often displaced established charities and commitment to quality care for all. The service systems are careless, leaving clients to make choices without real information or protection. Considine points to alternative ways that reforms could be configured to get the best from both private and public agencies, and find a new approach to save these failing services.

rto training online: Crowds in the 21st Century John Drury, Clifford Stott, 2015-02-20 Crowds in the 21st Century presents the latest theory and research on crowd events and crowd behaviour from across a range of social sciences, including psychology, sociology, law, and communication studies. Whether describing the language of the crowd in protest events, measuring the ability of the crowd to empower its participants, or analysing the role of professional organizations involved in crowd safety and public order, the contributions in this volume are united in their commitment to a social scientific level of analysis. The crowd is often depicted as a source of irrationality and danger – in the form of riots and mass emergencies. By placing crowd events back in their social context – their ongoing historical and proximal relationships with other groups and social structures – this volume restores meaning to the analysis of crowd behaviour. Together, the studies described in this collection demonstrate the potential of crowd research to enhance the positive experience of crowd participants and to improve design, planning, and management around crowd events. This book was originally published as a special issue of Contemporary Social Science.
