Robinson, 2021-05-11 A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect. |

pray for me brother song lyrics: Sheet Music of the Confederacy Robert I. Curtis, 2024-04-03 The creation of the Confederate States of America and the subsequent Civil War inspired composers, lyricists, and music publishers in Southern and border states, and even in foreign countries, to support the new nation. Confederate-imprint sheet music articulated and encouraged Confederate nationalism, honored soldiers and military leaders, comforted family and friends, and provided diversion from the hardships of war. This is the first comprehensive history of the sheet music of the Confederacy. It covers works published before the war in Southern states that seceded from the Union, and those published during the war in Union occupied capitals, border and Northern states, and foreign countries. It is also the first work to examine the contribution of postwar Confederate-themed sheet music to the South's response to its defeat, to the creation and fostering of Lost Cause themes, and to the promotion of national reunion and reconciliation. |

pray for me brother song lyrics: Dancing about Architecture is a Reasonable Thing to Do Joel Heng Hartse, 2022-02-07 Writing about music, far from being the specialized domain of the rock critic with encyclopedic knowledge of micro-genres or the fancy-pants star journalist flying on private planes with Led Zeppelin, has become something almost any music lover can do--and does. It's been said, however, that writing about music is a difficult, even pointless enterprise--an absurd impossibility, like dancing about architecture. But aside from the fact that dancing about architecture would be awesome, what is that ineffable something that drives people to write about music at all? In this short, insightful book, Joel Heng Hartse unpacks the rock writer Richard Meltzer's assertion that writing about music should be a parallel artistic effort with music itself--and argues that music and the impulse to write about it is part of the eminently mysterious desire for meaning-making that makes us human. Touching on the close resonances between music, language, love, and belief, Dancing about Architecture is a Reasonable Thing to Do is relevant to anyone who finds deep human and spiritual meaning in music, writing, and the mysterious connections between them. |
pray for me brother song lyrics: Miracles at Ihop Johnny Wong, 2014-05-13 My book entitled Miracles at I hop, explained my experiences with the international house of prayer at Kansas City, Mo. From January to the end of March, I gained some spiritual healing. The friends I made at Kansas City, was overwhelming, such as my roommates, the Simeon, was some ways liked family to me. Early morning, we had classes together in one of the building. Mostly guest speakers from the house of payer. Our main focus was 24/7 prayer in the prayer room. By one o' clock, shared the same lecture hall, with the FSM classes. There's time, we went on outing, such as feeding the homeless, street evangelist, for example, spreading the good news during the Saint Patrict Day Parade. Whenever someone needed housing or finance support, I hop often came through to assisted us. There's moment where people hurt others by their actions or words, also needed to understand the international house of prayer not considered heaven, just a temporary place, where, individuals get some, either physical emotional pains was healed. Miracles at I hop wasn't just Johnny Wong miracles, but everybody miracles, women, men, girls and guys who lay hands to prayer over my mental conditions. Whenever anybody go out of their way, either offering me a place to stay, just asking how I am doing, even giving a ride to the supermarket, to FSM classes and to conference was a big help. The Saturday home group, the Metro Church was a great time, having a wonderful meal together, laughing talking with each others. Funny jokes about I hop, not a whole a lot of people, admired New Yorker, Chinese, Boston accent. I hope this book, would be enjoyable for everybody at the international house of prayer. Sincerely, Johnny Wong |

pray for me brother song lyrics: Joyful Noise Ed Christian, 2003-04 By forbidding the music they dont like, they alienate the young. Ed Christian argues that music should be judged not by personal tastes, but by its spiritual fruits. God approves of music that leads people closer to Him, whether we like it or not. When it comes to music for the worship service, however, unity is important. Appropriate church music doesnt alienate or offend, but brings people together and lifts them up to God.The author examines the arguments of those who reject contemporary Christian music in favor of traditional classics, and show how God can use the new music to bless churches and change lives. |

pray for me brother song lyrics: Prayer in America James P. Moore, Jr., 2007-09-18 A stirring chronicle of the spiritual life of a nation, Prayer in America shows how the faith of Americans—from the founding fathers to corporate tycoons, from composers to social reformers, from generals to slaves—was an essential ingredient in the formation of American culture, character, commerce, and creed. Prayer in America brings together the country’s hymns, patriotic anthems, arts, and literature as a framework for telling the story of the innermost thoughts of the people who have shaped the United States we know today. Beginning with Native Americans, Prayer in America traces the prayer lives of Quakers and Shakers, Sikhs and Muslims, Catholics and Jews, from their earliest days in the United States through the aftermath of 9/11, and the 2004 presidential election. It probes the approach to prayer by such diverse individuals as Benjamin Franklin, Elvis Presley, Frank Lloyd Wright, J. C. Penney, P. T. Barnum, Jackie Robinson, and Christopher Columbus. It includes every president of the United States as well as America’s clergy, immigrants, industrialists, miners, sports heroes, and scientists. Prayer in America shows that without prayer, the political, cultural, social, and even economic and military history of the United States would be vastly different from what it is today. It engages in a thoughtful, timely examination of the modern debate over public prayer and how the current approach to prayer bears deep roots in the philosophies of the country’s founding fathers, a subject which remains distinct from the debate over church and state. |

pray for me brother song lyrics: Powerhouse for God Jeff Todd Titon, 2020-07-03 The Fellowship Independent Baptist Church near Stanley, Virginia, was a group of fundamental Christian believers broadly representative of southern Appalachian belief and practice. Jeff Todd Titon worked with this Baptist community for more than ten years in his attempt to determine the nature of language in the practice of their religion. He traces specialized vocabulary and its applications through the acts of being saved, praying, preaching, teaching, and in particular singing. Titon argues that religious language is performed and the context of its occurrence is crucial to our understanding and to a holistic view of not only religious practice but of folklife and ethnomusicology. Titon’s monumental study of The Fellowship Independent Baptist Church produced not only the first edition book but also an album and documentary film. In this second edition of Powerhouse for God, Titon revisits The Fellowship Independent Baptist Church nearly four decades later. Brother John Sherfey, the charismatic preacher steeped in Appalachian tradition has passed away and left his congregation to his son, Donnie, to lead. While Appalachian Virginia has changed markedly over the decades, the town of Stanley and the Fellowship Church have not. Titon relates this rarity in his new Afterword: a church founded on Biblical literalism and untouched by modern progressivism in an area of Appalachia that has seen an evolution in population, industry, and immigration. Titon’s unforgettable study of folklife, musicology, and Appalachian religion is available for a new generation of scholars to build upon. |

pray for me brother song lyrics: The Prayer Christopher Levan, 2018-09-13 How can sixty-eight words change the world? Seems impossible. An even greater mystery, these words come in the form of a prayer. Christopher Levan shows how early Christians used what we now call The Lord's Prayer as a building block for their movement. It was from these sixty-eight words that they created the backbone and determination to shape a religious movement that would dramatically alter human history. Walking step by step through The Prayer, Levan will show how Jesus of Nazareth adapted the economic and spiritual principles from his Jewish heritage and teaching, to direct his followers in a simple, yet very profound conversation with their Creator. In The Prayer, Jesus' disciples found words to build God's reign on earth: the kingdom of God. Obviously, these sixty-eight words are not just words. They have power. They enact what they express. And far from spent, these words still contain the ability to enliven and shape the current expressions of God's reign here and now. |

pray for me brother song lyrics: The Late Voice Richard Elliott, 2017-05-18 Popular music artists, as performers in the public eye, offer a privileged site for the witnessing and analysis of ageing and its mediation. The Late Voice undertakes such an analysis by considering issues of time, memory, innocence and experience in modern Anglophone popular song and the use by singers and songwriters of a 'late voice'. Lateness here refers to five primary issues: chronology (the stage in an artist's career); the vocal act (the ability to convincingly portray experience); afterlife (posthumous careers made possible by recorded sound); retrospection (how voices 'look back' or anticipate looking back); and the writing of age, experience, lateness and loss into song texts. There has been recent growth in research on ageing and the experience of later stages of life, focusing on physical health, lifestyle and psychology, with work in the latter field intersecting with the field of memory studies. The Late Voice seeks to connect age, experience and lateness with particular performers and performance traditions via the identification and analysis of a late voice in singers and songwriters of mid-late twentieth century popular music. |

pray for me brother song lyrics: And Then I Opened My Eyes Theresa Michelle, 2022-11-03 Have you ever longed to know God more? Ever wanted to be closer than close to him? Many times, trials of life make you want to throw in the towel. But just when you feel you cannot go on anymore, thataEUR(tm)s when he reaches out his hand to pull you to him. He loves you, and he is the one who really longs to have that relationship. It is at that point you will find him and all the wonderful things he has for you. In this memoir of the story of my life, you will be able to meet God right in that place. I pray for anyone who is feeling low, lonely, and sad. If you have picked up this book, I ask you, Lord, to earnestly touch their soul as only your love can. In this book, the author, gives a very open, and intimate look into her life and struggles to find what we all strive to find, and that is Purpose. It has been said that without Purpose life has no meaning, and no fulfillment. The writer of Proverbs (29:18), says it this way aEURoeWhere there is no vision, the people perish:aEUR It suggests that if purpose is not known, then life has no meaning, and thus no guardrails to protect you from destroying GodaEUR(tm)s beautiful creation. Read this book and see how, like many, the unknown reason for existing causes harmful behaviors to the created thing: but also see in this open and honest work, how the realization of Purpose, can allow Gods redeeming work to operate and cause joy unspeakable. I applaud this author, not just for her bravery in being so open, but also on her genuine desire to bring others to the point she has reached. This book, will challenge you: but the reward is soo worth it, Bravo!! Sean G. Davis, MD I absolutely love this book and this author! It is clear, from the very first page that she has overcome great trials and inner struggles, but it is those very trials and struggles that offers us the gift of brokenness. Hidden within our weakness is a greater awareness of Who God is and who we are in Him. In our weakness He is made strong. If you are holding this book it signifies that you are seeing Him because it is only when we look within can see how Fearfully and wonderfully made we are by our Awesome Creator: Jehovah Shammah. This paradox can only be understood when He opens our eyes, as he did for Theresa.- Sandra Maria Anderson author of Lessons from the Thorns: His Grace is Sufficient |
