pesticide core manual: Fungicides for Field Crops Daren Mueller, Kiersten A. Wise, Nicholas S. Dufault, Carl Alan Bradley, Martin I. Chilvers, 2013 Fungicides for Field Crops provides an overview of the current knowledge of fungicides and their use on field crops. This comprehensive book, which includes the contributions of 40 professionals from 20 universities and other organizations, combines past knowledge about fungicides with recent developments in the realm of field crop fungicides. Fungicides for Field Crops highlights the use of fungicides as key tools in the management of important diseases of field crops. Management is presented as a decision-making process--one in which factors as diverse as weather conditions and economics must be considered. Having a more complete understanding of fungicides will inform that decision making and help determine when fungicides should be included as part of a management plan. Parts I, II, and III establish a foundation of knowledge about fungicide use, addressing basic terms and concepts, key factors in decision making, and concerns for fungicide stewardship, respectively. Part IV presents details about using fungicides to manage diseases of 16 field crops. Each crop is treated in a separate section that begins with a discussion of general issues of foliar application and seed treatment and ends with an inclusive table identifying diseases of that crop, including what causes them and how fungicides may be used to treat them. 131 color photographs illustrate disease symptoms and show techniques and enhance the key concepts described in the text. |

pesticide core manual: Non-Soil Fumigation: A Pesticide Applicator Study Guide , 2023-08-10 This study manual will prepare individuals for the Department of Pesticide Regulation's (DPR's) commercial applicator Non-Soil Fumigation category (Category M) examination. Fumigants are a type of pesticide with unique physical and chemical characteristics. Fumigants are gases, or turn into gases, after application. Fumigants may be odorless and usually cannot be seen. DPR's Non-Soil Fumigation category is intended for individuals who perform pest control using a pesticide labeled as a fumigant. This category does not include structural pest control required to be licensed under Chapter 14 (commencing with Section 8500) of Division 3 of the Business and Professions Code. This study manual covers important aspects of pesticides used for non-soil fumigations. However, the study manual is not a substitute for reading and understanding the label of the specific fumigant product you will be using. Thoroughly read the label prior to purchase and application. Each chapter ends with review questions. After reading each chapter, test your understanding of the information presented in the chapter by answering the review questions. The review questions are similar to those that will be on the exam. |
pesticide core manual: Pesticide Management and Insecticide Resistance David Watson, 2012-12-02 Pesticide Management and Insecticide Resistance explores the problem of insect resistance to pesticides and reviews various approaches to pesticide management and safety. It looks at the environmental hazards of pesticide residues and their regulation, along with application techniques aimed at maximum efficiency against the pest and minimum waste to pollution, safety considerations in the development of pest control programs, and pesticide monitoring. Divided into eight parts encompassing 49 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the global pesticide industry and the costs of commercializing pesticides relative to their profit potential. It then introduces the reader to the release of fluorohydrocarbon propellants in pesticidal aerosols and their hazards to the ozone layer, management of pests in urban environments, international plant protection, the current status of DDT, the importance of training pest-control personnel, and procedures of forest spraying. Other chapters focus on pesticide management safety from a medical perspective; pesticide safety as it relates to the manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution of pesticides; importance of pesticide application equipment and related field practices in developing countries; and the importance of pesticides in successful pest management programs. This book is a valuable resource for scientists, students, researchers, and policymakers who want to ensure the safety of consumers, applicators, and harvesters when using pesticides. |
