I am an only child. This brings with it a certain perspective. I have been exposed to a great education and had the privilege to embark on numerous travel experiences here and abroad. In my travels I have met some very influential people. Of which two of them were Mother Teresa; who is now Blessed; and the late Cardinal O’Connor. I can also speak Spanish fluently. This allows me to converse with people of varied ethnic backgrounds. As with any person with a free spirit who wishes to experience as many aspects of life as possible, I have at times gone astray—off the beaten path—or a Frost would say “The Road Not Taken- and that has made all the difference”. But this the price one must pay. I have been writing poetry since I was a little girl. I am a member of the Famous Poet’s Society. In this capacity I have won the Famous Poet’s Award for the years 2002 and 2003. 1 addition I have also won the Shakespearean Trophy Award for Excellence for the year 2003. Now I am embarking on a new path. This is my first book of poems. It is a compilation of all the experiences that I have encountered since I was a little girl until the present. The book content consist of such topics as religion, nature, animals, political, personal emotions and famous people amongst other things. Scholars of ancient literature have often focused on the works and lives of major authors rather than on such questions as how these works were produced and who read them. In Roman Literary Culture, Elaine Fantham fills that void by examining the changing social and historical context of literary production in ancient Rome and its empire. Fantham’s first edition discussed the habits of Roman readers and developments in their means of access to literature, from booksellers and copyists to pirated publications and libraries. She examines the issues of patronage and the utility of literature and shows how the constraints of the physical object itself—the ancient book—influenced the practice of both reading and writing. She also explores the ways in which ancient criticism and critical attitudes reflected cultural assumptions of the time. In this second edition, Fantham expands the scope of her study. In the new first chapter, she examines the beginning of Roman literature—more than a century before the critical studies of Cicero and Varro. She discusses broader entertainment culture, which consisted of live performances of comedy and tragedy as well as oral presentations of the epic. A new final chapter looks at Pagan and Christian literature from the third to fifth centuries, showing how this period in Roman literature reflected its foundations in the literary culture of the late republic and Augustan age.
