novant health lymphedema clinic: Team-Based Oncology Care: The Pivotal Role of Oncology Navigation Lillie D. Shockney, 2018-04-10 This book discusses how effective navigation requires a team approach to oncology care and should never be considered an “add-on” resource or service. The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN) is the only national professional organization for navigation professionals, and has more than 6,000 members, 90% of which are oncology nurse navigators. They are the experts on creating team-based programs, which remove the risk of others trying to reinvent the wheel by designing a navigation program from scratch. They also understand the role of effective navigation across the entire continuum of care, and understand and are able to apply other key aspects of navigation, including clinical trial screenings and tumor board coordination and monitoring, as well as measurement using evidence-based navigation metrics, to name but a few.It is the only book designed to educate and support anyone developing a new navigation program, or wanting to improve one they have created. As such it offers a guide for cancer centers needing to develop and implement an oncology navigation program; understand and successfully meet and exceed the Commission on Cancer accreditation standards linked to navigation; expand or improve their current navigation program as well as demonstrate its value using reliable measurable results, including patient satisfaction and improved- quality clinical outcomes. This comprehensive book also provides insights into applying the information presented to the real world of oncology care.

novant health lymphedema clinic: Seating and Wheeled Mobility Michelle L. Lange, Jean L. Minkel, 2024-06-01 Seating and Wheeled Mobility: A Clinical Resource Guide presents clinical assessment considerations when working with a person with a disability who may need wheelchair seating for postural support, skin integrity, or a wheelchair base to best meet dependent or independent mobility needs. Michelle L. Lange and Jean Minkel have designed this text to support occupational and physical therapists, complex rehabilitation technology suppliers, and even third-party payers who are interested in wheelchair seating and mobility assessment and applications. Seating and Wheeled Mobility provides a wide spectrum of information from foundational information for those practitioners who are new to the field to in-depth, population-specific information for practitioners who perhaps have not worked with a particular population in the past. Information sharing, opportunities for demonstration and trial, and patience on the part of the clinician working with the person with a disability are all critical precursors to the actual process of making equipment recommendations. Seating and Wheeled Mobility is divided into sections, each addressing a different area of clinical practice. The first section is an in-depth presentation of the assessment process and the critical understanding of pressure management needed by the clinical team when working with a client population who rely on wheeled mobility. The second section focuses on postural support. Also included is a completely updated method to measure and describe the seated person and related support surfaces needed when recommending a device. The third section lays the foundation for clinical decision making around the assessment for and application of the most appropriate wheeled mobility device. The fourth section provides in-depth clinical applications for each category of mobility devices. Also addressed is proper documentation to assist in the funding of these devices. The fifth section provides population-specific information regarding the clinical application of position, pressure management, and functional mobility as it applies to the pediatric, geriatric, and bariatric populations, as well as persons with both degenerative and complex neuromuscular impairments. The last section presents additional considerations when working with persons who are aging with a disability, environmental assessments, transportation, and the application of standards. Seating and Wheeled Mobility: A Clinical Resource Guide provides the depth and breadth of the clinical practice of wheelchair seating and mobility to both those who are new to the field, as well as seasoned professionals.

Drawing from Buddhist teachings and psychological theory, authors Shapiro and Carlson explore why mindful awareness is integral to the therapeutic healing process. More than 100 stakeholders in the cancer community, including survivors, advocates, healthcare providers, government officials, insurers and payers, and researchers participated in the symposium. This report culminates a series of work at the IOM focused on cancer survivorship. The idea to embark on a major study of cancer survivorship within the National Academies originated with the National Cancer Policy Board (NCPB). The NCPB was established in 1997 in the IOM and the National Research Council's Division of Earth and Life Studies at the request of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Institutes of Health, and the President's Cancer Panel. The NCPB identified emerging policy issues in the nation's effort to combat cancer, and prepared reports that address those issues, including a series of reports on topics ranging from cancer prevention to end-of-life care.

novant health lymphedema clinic: Introduction to Lymphedema Therapy Techniques Julia Castleberry, Amanda Cross, 2015-09-25 Lymphedema therapy has gradually gained a foothold in the United States as a means to manage edema in clients with a variety of diagnoses. Initially, lymphedema therapy was associated with the treatment of edema for client's status post breast cancer, as lymph node removal often accompanied breast surgery. Recognition of lymphedema therapy interventions has expanded to include the treatment of edema associated with orthopedic surgeries and as a means to address the prevention of secondary complications caused by immobility and venous stasis. Wound care clinics are incorporating lymphedema therapy to assist with edema management of chronic wounds, venous and diabetic ulcers. Nursing, occupational and physical therapy professionals and other health care professionals may pursue lymphedema certification. Certification provides the opportunity for health care providers to intercede and to assist in preventing secondary complications for those clients presenting with lymphedema. This manual serves as an introduction to lymphedema therapy and outlines the basic manual techniques to assist in managing edema. This manual does not provide lymphedema therapy certification or specific information on compression wrapping and garments.
