ohp dental providers salem oregon: Just Don't Get Sick Karen Seccombe, Kim A. Hoffman, 2007-08-20 The ability to obtain health care is fundamental to the security, stability, and well-being of poor families. Government-sponsored programs provide temporary support, but as families leave welfare for work, they find themselves without access to coverage or care. The low-wage jobs that individuals in transition are typically able to secure provide few benefits yet often disqualify employees from receiving federal aid. Drawing upon statistical data and in-depth interviews with over five hundred families in Oregon, Karen Seccombe and Kim Hoffman assess the ways in which welfare reform affects the well-being of adults and children who leave the program for work. We hear of asthmatic children whose uninsured but working mothers cannot obtain the preventive medicines to keep them well, and stories of pregnant women receiving little or no prenatal care who end up in emergency rooms with life-threatening conditions. Representative of poor communities nationwide, the vivid stories recounted here illuminate the critical relationship between health insurance coverage and the ability to transition from welfare to work. |
ohp dental providers salem oregon: Evaluation of the Oregon Medicaid Proposal United States. Congress. Office of Technology Assessment, 1992 As part of an eventual statewide set of health insurance reform measures, the State of Oregon has proposed implementing a demonstration program, with Federal cofunding, that would change the State's existing Medicaid program in three fundamental ways. It would: 1) expand coverage to include all persons with incomes up to 100 percent of the Federal poverty level; 2) enroll all covered persons in some form of managed care, such as with a health maintenance organization or a gatekeeperprimary care physician; and 3) determine acute and primary health care benefits according to a ranked list of services, with actual benefits dependent on the level of program funding. ohp dental providers salem oregon: Relatives Raising Children Joseph Crumbley, Robert L. Little, 1997 The rapid growth of kinship foster care--full-time parenting of children by relatives or other adults who have a kinship bond with a child--has caught many child welfare agencies off guard. This monograph presents information needed by professionals, agencies, institutions, communities, and organizations to develop and provide services to kinship caregivers, kinship families, children, and parents. The monograph contains discussions of common clinical issues, suggests intervention strategies, examines kinship care's legal implications, and offers policy and program recommendations. Chapter 1 compares relative or kinship care to traditional family foster care, and outlines the characteristics of kinship care that necessitate changes in outlook and practice. Chapter 2 analyzes the clinical issues that must be considered in serving children, parents, and kinship caregivers. Chapters 3 and 4 provide guidance on child welfare practice with kinship families. Chapter 5 considers the effect of culturally based child-rearing practices, gender roles, and hierarchy of authority on child welfare practice with kinship families, as well as the impact of parental incarceration, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS. Chapter 6 looks at the legal rights, responsibilities, and status of kinship families, caregivers, parents, and children. Chapter 7 discusses federal and state issues for program and policy development; this chapter also examines the philosophy and values underlying provision of financial support to kinship families, the emerging federal role, state policy directions, and permanency planning. Contains 40 references. (KB) |

ohp dental providers salem oregon: The Handbook of Salutogenesis Maurice B. Mittelmark, 2022 We are salutogenesis friends working in health promotion, who banded together to accomplish what none of us alone could manage. Writing this handbook has brought the editors and the chapter authors closer together, discussing and debating every detail related to this complex project, with its 57 chapters and 88 authors. Several chapters address salutogenesis in the context of Coronavirus. Also, many of the book's authors have turned attention to salutogenesis research connected to the pandemic. As this book attests, salutogenesis scholarship is thriving in several disciplinary and transdisciplinary fields. This development would induce a broad smile and a high degree of satisfaction to the field's founding theoretician, Aaron Antonovsky (1923-1994). |

In this book Trudi Atkinson draws on her extensive experience as a veterinary nurse and a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist to provide a rapid reference and an intensely practical feline behaviour resource for owners, breeders, veterinary professionals, shelter and cattery workers and anyone involved in the care of our feline companions. |
ohp dental providers salem oregon: Remedy and Reaction Paul Starr, 2013-06-04 In no other country has health care served as such a volatile flashpoint of ideological conflict. America has endured a century of rancorous debate on health insurance, and despite the passage of legislation in 2010, the battle is not yet over. This book is a history of how and why the United States became so stubbornly different in health care, presented by an expert with unsurpassed knowledge of the issues. Tracing health-care reform from its beginnings to its current uncertain prospects, Paul Starr argues that the United States ensnared itself in a trap through policies that satisfied enough of the public and so enriched the health-care industry as to make the system difficult to change. He reveals the inside story of the rise and fall of the Clinton health plan in the early 1990sùand of the Gingrich counterrevolution that followed. And he explains the curious tale of how Mitt RomneyÆs reforms in Massachusetts became a model for Democrats and then follows both the passage of those reforms under Obama and the explosive reaction they elicited from conservatives. Writing concisely and with an even hand, the author offers exactly what is needed as the debate continuesùa penetrating account of how health care became such treacherous terrain in American politics. |

ohp dental providers salem oregon: Mohs Micrographic Surgery Stephen N. Snow, George R. Mikhail, 2004 Mohs Micrographic Surgery, an advanced treatment procedure for skin cancer, offers the highest potential for recovery--even if the skin cancer has been previously treated. This procedure is a state-of-the-art treatment in which the physician serves as surgeon, pathologist, and reconstructive surgeon. It relies on the accuracy of a microscope to trace and ensure removal of skin cancer down to its roots. This procedure allows dermatologists trained in Mohs Surgery to see beyond the visible disease and to precisely identify and remove the entire tumor, leaving healthy tissue unharmed. This procedure is most often used in treating two of the most common forms of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The cure rate for Mohs Micrographic Surgery is the highest of all treatments for skin cancer--up to 99 percent even if other forms of treatment have failed. This procedure, the most exact and precise method of tumor removal, minimizes the chance of regrowth and lessens the potential for scarring or disfigurement |
ohp dental providers salem oregon: Practical Algorithms in Pediatric Endocrinology Z. Hochberg, 2007-06-22 Algorithms provide a logical, concise and cost-effective approach to medical reasoning: utilizing a concise, step-by-step approach based upon clues from the history, physical examination and laboratory studies, algorithms help avoid excessive unnecessary procedures and testing. The 2nd, revised edition of Practical Algorithms in Pediatric Endocrinology deals with practical issues of child growth, puberty, diseases of the endocrine glands, sexual differentiation, as well as aberrations of water, electrolyte, mineral and carbohydrate metabolism. Fifty clinical issues are covered by an algorithmic approach, breaking down long lists and tables of differential diagnosis into smaller, more manageable ones. Common clinical symptoms, signs and laboratory abnormalities are classified as they present themselves at the patients bedside. This book is aimed at general practitioners and pediatricians, in particular those who are not exposed to pediatric endocrine problems on a daily basis, and at trainees in endocrinology and pediatric endocrinology as they acquire familiarity with clinical problem solving to make rational choices when facing clinical dilemmas. ohp dental providers salem oregon: Early Childhood Oral Health Joel H. Berg, Rebecca L. Slayton, 2015-10-26 Dental caries has been called a “silent epidemic” and is the most prevalent chronic disease affecting children. Though much has been written on the science and practice of managing this disease, publications are diverse in their loci, preventing easy access to the reader. Early Childhood Oral Health coalesces all the important information related to this topic in a comprehensive reference for students, academics, and practitioners. This second edition expands the scope of the first and puts an additional focus on interprofessional and global efforts that are necessary to manage the growing disease crisis and screening and risk assessment efforts that have expanded with the boom of new technologies. With updated references and incorporating the latest research, chapters address the biology and epidemiology of caries, the clinical management of early childhood caries, risk assessment, and early diagnosis. Other topics include public health approaches to managing caries worldwide, implementation of new caries prevention programs, fluoride regimens, and community programs, and family oral health education. Brand new are four chapters on the medical management of early childhood caries, considerations for children with special needs, interprofessional education and practice, and how the newest policy issues and the Affordable Care Act affect dental care. A must-read for pediatric dentists, cariologists, public health dentists, and students in these fields, Early Childhood Oral Health is also relevant for pediatricians and pediatric nursing specialists worldwide. |

If you're one of them, buy this book. From how to tame the twin threats of rising costs and the increasing number of uninsured to why an insurance mandate is good for your health, Health Care Reform dispels false fears by arming you with facts. |
