ontario labour relations act guide: Collective Agreements Susan Hayter, Jelle Visser, 2018 Collective bargaining involves a process of negotiation between one or more unions and an employer or employers' organisation(s). The outcome is a collective agreement that defines terms of employment - typically wages, working hours and in-work benefits. The agreement affords labour protection: minimum wages, regular earnings; limits on working hours and predictable work schedules; safe working environments; parental leave and sick leave; and a fair share in the benefits of increased productivity. The International Labour Organization (ILO) Collective Agreements Recommendation 1951 (No. 91) considers, where appropriate and having regard to national practice, that measures should be taken to extend the application of all or some provisions of a collective agreement to all employers and workers included wthin the domain of the agreement. The extension of a collective agreement generalises the terms and conditions of employment, agreed between organised firms and workers, represented through their association(s) and union(s), to the non-organised firms within a sector, occupation or territory. The collection of chapters in this volume are about the extension of collective agreements as an act of public policy. |

ontario labour relations act guide: Labour Relations Laws in Canada and the United States , 2009 This study evaluates private-sector labour relations laws by examining provincial laws (which cover the overwhelming majority of Canadian workers) and federal laws in Canada, and federal and state laws in the United States in 2008.4 The study evaluates the extent to which labour relations laws achieve balance and flexibility in the labour market. [...] Jurisdictional differences Prior to the examination of labour relations laws in Canada and the United States, it is important to recognize that there is a marked difference between the two countries in terms of the level of government responsible for the regulation of labour relations. ontario labour relations act guide: Closing the Enforcement Gap Leah F. Vosko, The Closing the Enforcement Gap Research Group, 2020-03-03 This manuscript explores the enforcement of employment standards, using a mixed-methods approach to examine Ontario as a case study. Drawing on interviews with workers, community advocates, and enforcement officials as well as new archival research, the manuscript demonstrates that enforcement of the province's Employment Standards Act fails too many workers. In the second part of the manuscript, scholars from the US, UK, Australia, and Quebec present views from elsewhere to compare and contrast their cases with that of Ontario, drawing out a widespread enforcement gap that pervades nearly all aspects of employment standards. In the end, the manuscript surveys innovative enforcement models that are emerging in a number of jurisdictions and sets out a new vision for the enforcement of employment standards.-- |

It provides detailed guidance for the preparation of the Particular Conditions for FIDIC contracts that will comply with the requirements of the applicable laws that apply to the site where the work is carried out, and for the governing law of the contract. This book also details the impact of COVID-19 on both the execution of construction projects and the operation of construction contracts in each jurisdiction.
