oil and gas quiz: Introduction to Angola Gilad James, PhD, Angola, located on the west coast of Africa, is a country rich in natural resources such as oil, diamonds, and minerals. It gained independence from Portugal in 1975 after a long and bloody civil war that lasted over 27 years. Since then, Angola has made significant strides toward economic and political stability. With a population of over 32 million people, Angola is the seventh-largest country in Africa and is home to numerous ethnic groups, including the Ovimbundu, Ambundu, Bakongo, and Chokwe. Despite its vast natural resources, Angola faces numerous challenges, including high levels of poverty, unemployment, and income inequality. The country has also struggled with political corruption and a lack of transparency in its government. However, under the leadership of President João Lourenço, Angola has taken steps to combat corruption and improve its economy. The government has implemented policies to diversify its economy and attract foreign investment, and the country has seen an increase in foreign partnerships and infrastructure development. With these efforts, Angola aims to become a stable and prosperous nation in the years to come. |

oil and gas quiz: Subsea Valves and Actuators for the Oil and Gas Industry Karan Sotoodeh, 2021-05-29 Piping and valve engineers rely on common industrial standards for selecting and maintaining valves, but these standards are not specific to the subsea oil and gas industry. Subsea Valves and Actuators for the Oil and Gas Industry delivers a needed reference to go beyond the standard to specify how to select, test, and maintain the right subsea oil and gas valve for the project. Each chapter focuses on a specific type of valve with a built-in structured table on valve selection, helping guide the engineer to the most efficient valve. Covering subsea-specific protection, the reference also gives information on high pressure protection systems (HIPPS) and discusses corrosion management within the subsea sector, such as Hydrogen Induced Stress Cracking Corrosion (HISC). Additional benefits include understanding the concept of different safety valves in subsea, selecting different valves and actuators located on subsea structures such as Christmas trees, manifolds, and HIPPS modules, with a full detail review including sensors, logic solver, and solenoid which is designed to save cost and improve the reliability in the subsea system. Rounding out with chapters on factory acceptance testing (FAT) and High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS), Subsea Valves and Actuators for the Oil and Gas Industry gives subsea engineers and managers a much-needed tool to better understand today's subsea technology. - Understand practical information about all types of subsea valves and actuators with over 600 visuals and several case studies - Learn and review the applicable standards and specifications from API and ISO in one convenient location - Protect your assets with a high-pressure protection system (HIPPS) and subsea-specific corrosion management including Hydrogen Induced Stress Cracking Corrosion (HISC) |

oil and gas quiz: Project Management in the Oil and Gas Industry Mohamed A. El-Reedy, 2016-02-09 Oil and gas projects have special characteristics that need a different technique in project management. The development of any country depends on the development of the energy reserve through investing in oil and gas projects through onshore and offshore exploration, drilling, and increasing facility capacities. Therefore, these projects need a sort of management match with their characteristics, and project management is the main tool to achieving a successful project. Written by a veteran project manager who has specialized in oil and gas projects for years, this book focuses on using practical tools and methods that are widely and successfully used in project management for oil and gas projects. Most engineers study all subjects, but focus on project management in housing projects, administration projects, and commercial buildings or other similar projects. However, oil and gas projects have their own requirements and characteristics in management from the owners, engineering offices, and contractors' side. Not only useful to graduating engineers, new hires, and students, this volume is also an invaluable addition to any veteran project manager's library as a reference or a helpful go-to guide. Also meant to be a refresher for practicing engineers, it covers all of the project management subjects from an industrial point of view specifically for petroleum projects, making it the perfect desktop manual. Not just for project managers and students, this book is helpful to any engineering discipline or staff in sharing or applying the work of a petroleum project and is a must-have for anyone working in this industry. |

oil and gas quiz: Life after Fossil Fuels Alice J. Friedemann, 2021-03-29 This book is a reality check of where energy will come from in the future. Today, our economy is utterly dependent on fossil fuels. They are essential to transportation, manufacturing, farming, electricity, and to make fertilizers, cement, steel, roads, cars, and half a million other products. One day, sooner or later, fossil fuels will no longer be abundant and affordable. Inevitably, one day, global oil production will decline. That time may be nearer than we realize. Some experts predict oil shortages as soon as 2022 to 2030. What then are our options for replacing the fossil fuels that turn the great wheel of civilization? Surveying the arsenal of alternatives – wind, solar, hydrogen, geothermal, nuclear, batteries, catenary systems, fusion, methane hydrates, power2gas, wave, tidal power and biomass – this book examines whether they can replace or supplement fossil fuels. The book also looks at substitute energy sources from the standpoint of the energy users. Manufacturing, which uses half of fossil fuels, often requires very high heat, which in many cases electricity can't provide. Industry uses fossil fuels as a feedstock for countless products, and must find substitutes. And, as detailed in the author's previous book, When Trucks Stop Running: Energy and the Future of Transportation, ships, locomotives, and heavy-duty trucks are fueled by diesel. What can replace diesel? Taking off the rose-colored glasses, author Alice Friedemann analyzes our options. What alternatives should we deploy right now? Which technologies merit further research and development? Which are mere wishful thinking that, upon careful scrutiny, dematerialize before our eyes? Fossil fuels have allowed billions of us to live like kings. Fueled by oil, coal, and natural gas, we changed the equation constraining the carrying capacity of our planet. As fossil fuels peak and then decline, will we fall back to Earth? Are there viable alternatives? |

oil and gas quiz: Mono-Olefins F. Asinger, 2013-10-22 Mono-Olefins: Chemistry and Technology is a translation from the German and deals with the study of olefins from low ethylene to hexenes and olefins from the high hexenes to eicosenes. The book describes the gaseous or low-boiling olefins and the higher, normally liquid olefins (which have only a minor role in applications in the chemical industry). The olefins are considered important as they are added in the distillation of off-gases in refineries. Although the liquid olefins are used sparingly, these are needed to manufacture lubricants, synthetic detergents, and the higher aliphatic alcohols. The book then explains the three processes used to separate olefin containing mixtures of gases into fractions by the C-number or to convert olefins in the pure state: distillation, absorption, and adsorption. The author then describes the processes in manufacturing carburetor fuel from petroleum and natural gases. Petroleum oil is a mixture of paraffinic, naphthenic, and aromatic hydrocarbons and has no olefins. The text describes the complete process of refining petroleum into different products such as gasoline, kerosene, lubricants, and spotting benzenes. Then the book explains the polymerization of olefins to produce carburetor fuels either by the thermal method or catalytic method. The text notes some research made into double-bond isomerization in mono-olefins and their possible applications. This book is beneficial to industrial chemists, researchers, technical designers, and engineers whose works are related with oil refinery and fossil fuels. |
