oceanic veo 180 computer: Mammals of South America, Volume 2 James L. Patton, Ulyses F. J. Pardiñas, Guillermo D’Elía, 2015-03-09 The second installment in a planned three-volume series, this book provides the first substantive review of South American rodents published in over fifty years. Increases in the reach of field research and the variety of field survey methods, the introduction of bioinformatics, and the explosion of molecular-based genetic methodologies have all contributed to the revision of many phylogenetic relationships and to a doubling of the recognized diversity of South American rodents. The largest and most diverse mammalian order on Earth—and an increasingly threatened one—Rodentia is also of great ecological importance, and Rodents is both a timely and exhaustive reference on these ubiquitous creatures. From spiny mice and guinea pigs to the oversized capybara, this book covers all native rodents of South America, the continental islands of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Caribbean Netherlands off the Venezuelan coast. It includes identification keys and descriptions of all genera and species; comments on distribution; maps of localities; discussions of subspecies; and summaries of natural, taxonomic, and nomenclatural history. Rodents also contains a detailed list of cited literature and a separate gazetteer based on confirmed identifications from museum vouchers and the published literature. |

oceanic veo 180 computer: Outlier Detection for Temporal Data Manish Gupta, Jing Gao, Charu Aggarwal, Jiawei Han, 2014-04-14 Outlier (or anomaly) detection is a very broad field which has been studied in the context of a large number of research areas like statistics, data mining, sensor networks, environmental science, distributed systems, spatio-temporal mining, etc. Initial research in outlier detection focused on time series-based outliers (in statistics). Since then, outlier detection has been studied on a large variety of data types including high-dimensional data, uncertain data, stream data, network data, time series data, spatial data, and spatio-temporal data. While there have been many tutorials and surveys for general outlier detection, we focus on outlier detection for temporal data in this book. A large number of applications generate temporal datasets. For example, in our everyday life, various kinds of records like credit, personnel, financial, judicial, medical, etc., are all temporal. This stresses the need for an organized and detailed study of outliers with respect to such temporal data. In the past decade, there has been a lot of research on various forms of temporal data including consecutive data snapshots, series of data snapshots and data streams. Besides the initial work on time series, researchers have focused on rich forms of data including multiple data streams, spatio-temporal data, network data, community distribution data, etc. Compared to general outlier detection, techniques for temporal outlier detection are very different. In this book, we will present an organized picture of both recent and past research in temporal outlier detection. We start with the basics and then ramp up the reader to the main ideas in state-of-the-art outlier detection techniques. We motivate the importance of temporal outlier detection and brief the challenges beyond usual outlier detection. Then, we list down a taxonomy of proposed techniques for temporal outlier detection. Such techniques broadly include statistical techniques (like AR models, Markov models, histograms, neural networks), distance- and density-based approaches, grouping-based approaches (clustering, community detection), network-based approaches, and spatio-temporal outlier detection approaches. We summarize by presenting a wide collection of applications where temporal outlier detection techniques have been applied to discover interesting outliers. oceanic veo 180 computer: Journal 2004 Unknown, 2014-08-31 The handwritten journal of a serial killer in Harford County, Maryland in 2004. A twisted journey through a tormented mind, as he writes about his daily activities. But the most horrifying thought is how ordinary he is. He could have been your neighbor or your coworker, somebody you stood next to in line at the store, and as much as you will hate and despise the monster he is, if you're like me, you'll almost feel sorry as you get a slight glimpse into how he got that way. Like feeling sorry for a rabid dog. The most hair raising, disturbing, captivating, horrifying and intriguing 120 pages you will ever read. |
oceanic veo 180 computer: Optical Fiber Sensor Technology L.S. Grattan, B.T. Meggitt, 1999-04-30 Environmental and chemical sensors in optical fiber sensor technology The nature of the environment in which we live and work, and the precarious state of many aspects of the natural environment, has been a major lesson for scientists over the last few decades. Public awareness of the issues involved is high, and often coupled with a scepticism of the ability of the scientist and engineer to provide an adequate, or even rapid solution to the preservation of the environment before further damage is done, and to achieve this with a mini mum of expenditure. Monitoring of the various aspects of the environment, whether it be external or internal to ourselves and involving chemical, physical or biomedical parameters is an essential process for the well-being of mankind and of the individual. Legis lative requirements set new standards for measurement and control all around us, which must be met by the most appropriate of the technologies available, commensurate with the costs involved. Optical fiber sensor technology has a major part to play in this process, both to complement existing technologies and to promote new solutions to difficult measurement issues. The developments in new sources and detectors covering wider ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum, with higher sensitivity, allow the use of techniques that some time ago would have been considered inappropriate or lacking in sufficient sensitivity. |

oceanic veo 180 computer: Environmental Studies Mary F. Wheeler, 2012-12-06 Environmental protection has become a universal issue with world-wide support. Environmental studies have now bridged the realms of academic research and societal applications. Mathematical modeling and large-scale data collection and analysis lie at the core of all environmental studies. Unfortunately, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers immersed in developing and applying environmental models, computational methods, statistical techniques and computational hardware advance with separate and often discordant paces. The volume is based on recent research designed to provide a much needed interdisciplinary forum for joint exploration of recent advances in this field. |
oceanic veo 180 computer: A Geology for Engineers F.G.H. Blyth, Michael de Freitas, 2017-12-21 No engineering structure can be built on the ground or within it without the influence of geology being experienced by the engineer. Yet geology is an ancillary subject to students of engineering and it is therefore essential that their training is supported by a concise, reliable and usable text on geology and its relationship to engineering. In this book all the fundamental aspects of geology are described and explained, but within the limits thought suitable for engineers. It describes the structure of the earth and the operation of its internal processes, together with the geological processes that shape the earth and produce its rocks and soils. It also details the commonly occurring types of rock and soil, and many types of geological structure and geological maps. Care has been taken to focus on the relationship between geology and geomechanics, so emphasis has been placed on the geological processes that bear directly upon the composition, structure and mechanics of soil and rocks, and on the movement of groundwater. The descriptions of geological processes and their products are used as the basis for explaining why it is important to investigate the ground, and to show how the investigations may be conducted at ground level and underground. Specific instruction is provided on the relationship between geology and many common activities undertaken when engineering in rock and soil. |

oceanic veo 180 computer: Water Security in the Mediterranean Region Andrea Scozzari, Bouabid El Mansouri, 2011-09-08 The role of water in our communities, from local to regional and right up to global levels, poses a series of key questions about climate change, about the anthropogenic impact on the environment, and about all the interconnected actions and events that affect the availability and quality of the resource. All these questions share a common demand for more scientific knowledge and information. In this particular context the disciplinary boundaries are fading, and there is a growing need to create broader connections and wider collaborative interdisciplinary groups, aimed at building an integrated knowledge-base to serve not only stakeholders but also the whole of society. Only in this way can we hope to respond effectively to the challenges and changing dynamics of human-hydrologic systems. Following this concept, contributors from multiple disciplinary backgrounds, such as Law Studies, Hydrogeology, Monitoring and Information Technologies, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Sciences, Systems Engineering, Economics and Social Studies, joined forces and interacted in this workshop. The present book reports the proceedings of this three-day ARW (Advanced Research Workshop), and explores different aspects of the environmental security assessment process, focusing on the assessment, monitoring and management of water resources, and giving an overview of the related scientific knowledge. |

oceanic veo 180 computer: The Four Scott Galloway, 2017-10-05 ‘A fantastic, provocative book about where we are now and where we are going’ Phil Simon Huffington Post Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google are the four most influential companies on the planet. Just about everyone thinks they know how they got there. Just about everyone is wrong. For all that’s been written about the Four over the last two decades, no one has captured their power and staggering success as insightfully as Scott Galloway. Instead of buying the myths these companies broadcast, Galloway asks fundamental questions: - How did the Four infiltrate our lives so completely that they’re almost impossible to avoid (or boycott)? - Why does the stock market forgive them for sins that would destroy other firms? - And as they race to become the world’s first trillion-dollar company, can anyone challenge them? In the same irreverent style that has made him one of the world’s most celebrated business professors, Galloway deconstructs the strategies of the Four that lurk beneath their shiny veneers. He shows how they manipulate the fundamental emotional needs that have driven us since our ancestors lived in caves, at a speed and scope others can’t match. And he reveals how you can apply the lessons of their ascent to your own business or career. Whether you want to compete with them, do business with them, or simply live in the world they dominate, you need to understand the Four. |
oceanic veo 180 computer: Into the Planet Jill Heinerth, 2019-08-20 The renowned cave diver takes readers on “a thrill ride into unfamiliar worlds”—exploring the hidden depths of our oceans and sunken caves (Publishers Weekly). More people have died exploring underwater caves than climbing Mount Everest, and we know more about deep space than we do about the depths of our oceans. In this thrilling firsthand account, Jill Heinerth blends science, adventure, and memoir to bring readers face-to-face with the terror and beauty of earth’s final frontier—and the extremes of human capability. One of the world’s foremost cave divers, Heinerth’s achievements include leading a team that discovered the ancient watery remains of Mayan civilizations and becoming the first person in history to dive deep into an Antarctic iceberg. In Into the Planet, she vividly recounts everything from discovering new species and examining our finite freshwater reserves to the prejudices women face when pursuing careers underwater. |
oceanic veo 180 computer: Practicing Memory in Central American Literature N. Caso, 2010-04-14 Through penetrating analysis of twentieth-century historical fiction from Central America this book asks: why do so many literary texts in the region address historical issues? What kinds of stories are told about the past when authors choose the fictional realm to represent history? Why access memory through fiction and poetry? Nicole Caso traces the active interplay between language, space, and memory in the continuous process of defining local identities through literature. Ultimately, this book looks to the dynamic between form and content to identify potential maps that are suggested in each of these texts in order to imagine possibilities of action in the future. |
