ndp 1: US Naval Strategy and National Security Sebastian Bruns, 2017-09-22 This book examines US naval strategy and the role of American seapower over three decades, from the late 20th century to the early 21st century. This study uses the concept of seapower as a framework to explain the military and political application of sea power and naval force for the United States of America. It addresses the context in which strategy, and in particular US naval strategy and naval power, evolves and how US naval strategy was developed and framed in the international and national security contexts. It explains what drove and what constrained US naval strategy and examines selected instances where American sea power was directed in support of US defense and security policy ends – and whether that could be tied to what a given strategy proposed. The work utilizes naval capstone documents in the framework of broader maritime conceptual and geopolitical thinking, and discusses whether these documents had lasting influences in the strategic mind-set, the force structure, and other areas of American sea power. Overall, this work provides a deeper understanding of the crafting of US naval strategy since the final decade of the Cold War, its contextual and structural framework setting, and its application. To that end, the work bridges the gap between the thinking of American naval officers and planners on the one hand and academic analyses of Navy strategy on the other hand. It also presents the trends in the use of naval force for foreign policy objectives and into strategy-making in the American policy context. However, an appropriate theory that can be employed to think about such data and associated research questions has been lacking. We present a new housing & macro model that is designed specifically to analyze the long term. As an illustrative application, we demonstrate that the calibrated model replicates, with remarkable accuracy, the historical evolution of housing wealth (relative to income) after World War II and suggests a further considerable increase in the future. The model also accounts for the close connection of house prices to land prices in the data. We also compare our framework to the canonical housing & macro model, typically employed to analyze business cycles, and highlight the main differences. |

With its unique micro-level focus, Parties, Candidates, and Constituency Campaigns in Canadian Elections provides the first systematic analysis of the local constituency campaigns that are the basis of elections and democracy in Canada. ndp 1: Environmental Assessment of the Areas Disengaged by Israel in the Gaza Strip United Nations Environment Programme, 2006 This publication presents the findings of a survey, carried out in 2005 by a UNEP team of eight experts, to investigate and assess environmental risks or pollution in the Gaza Strip, focusing on the 21 disengaged Israeli settlements and the Erez industrial site. Using satellite imagery and reports, about 100 areas of interest were identified including, industrial buildings, waste disposal sites, agricultural plants and storage tanks. Overall, the report found that the environmental impact of the former Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip was limited, with the main concern being the amount of remaining asbestos in the rubble of demolished houses. Once the rubble is removed, asbestos disposed of in a safe manner and the identified areas of contamination are cleaned up, there will be no environmental constraints to human settlement in these areas. |

This theory adopts three postulates: rational expectations, perfect price flexibility, and exclusion of the money in utility function (MIU). Based on the new theoretical finding that the Lucas model (1972) contains multiple equilibria, the author unifies Keynesian and monetarist theories within the same framework. The book applies the above basic theory to international macroeconomics and economic growth theory. New Keynesian theory contains logical inconsistencies: menu costs that have no close relationship with microeconomics and MIU, which implies that the money accumulated as wealth is never spent. These two assumptions do not proximate the real world. In this volume, the author discusses how various segregated theoretical approaches in macroeconomics relate to one another and proposes how to integrate them. |

Nixon, 2001 Conventional construction of digital dynamic system simulations often involves collecting differential equations that model each subsystem, arranging them to a standard form, and obtaining their numerical solution as a single coupled, total-system simultaneous set. Simulation by numerical coupling of independent stand-alone subsimulations is a fundamentally different approach that is attractive because, among other things, the architecture naturally facilitates high fidelity, broad scope, and discipline independence. Recursive feedback is defined and discussed as a candidate approach to multidiscipline dynamic system simulation by numerical coupling of self-contained, single-discipline subsystem simulations. A satellite motion example containing three subsytems (orbit dynamics, attitude dynamics and aerodynamics ) has been defined and constructed using this approach. |

Golumbic, 2012-12-06 Research in artificial intelligence, natural language processing and knowledge-based systems has blossomed during the past decade. At national and international symposia as well as in research centers and universities all over the world, these subjects have been the focus of intense debate and study. This is equally true in Israel which has hosted several international forums on these topics. The articles in this book represent a selection of contributions presented at recent AI conferences held in Israel. A theoretical model for a system that learns from its own experience in playing board games is presented in Learning from Experience in Board Games by Ze'ev Ben-Porat and Martin Golumbic. The model enables such a system to enhance and improve its playing capabilities through the use of a learning mechanism which extracts knowledge from actual playing experience. The learning process requires no external guidance or assistance. This model was implemented and tested on a variant of Chinese Checkers. The paper shows the feasibility and validity of the proposed model and investigates the parameters that affect its performance traits. The experimental results give evidence of the validity of the model as a powerful learning mechanism. Original and general algorithms for knowledge extraction and pattern matching were designed and tested as part of the prototype computer system. Analysis of the performance characteristics of these algorithms indicates that they can handle large knowledge bases in an efficient manner. |
