montgomery county heart ball: The Legal Connection Frank Becker, 2025-02-09 When Richard Milhous Nixon was sworn in as the thirtyseventh president of the United States on January 20, 1969, author Frank Becker couldn’t have anticipated or fully appreciated the impact that election would have on his teenage years. Becker was thirteen years old at the time, and when Nixon resigned as president August 9, 1974, Becker was eighteen. His father was a law partner to Richard Nixon and John Mitchell in the firm of Nixon, Mudge, Rose, Guthrie, Alexander, and Mitchell. In The Legal Connection, Becker draws on his personal recollections and his mother’s extensive memoirs to provide a unique inside look at the people of the Nixon White House and the Washington, DC, social scene of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Beckers were there, attending White House state dinners, parties, and other events. This memoir includes first-hand accounts of conversations and interactions with the Nixons, Mitchells, and other famous people and describes how they appeared to the people who knew them as friends and colleagues. The Legal Connection ventures back in time, sharing details of exclusive White House and social functions and important political and judicial figures from around the world, offering an unforgettable snapshot in time. |

montgomery county heart ball: William Allen Quinlan - His Life & Times William Allen Quinlan Jr., 2024-12-26 Quinlan was born in 1909. He was the first editor-in-chief of the University of Chicago Law Review. He co-authored the Code of Fair Competition for the baking industry under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. As an attorney in Washington, D.C. for forty years, he represented small business associations before the U.S. Congress and the Executive Branch. He and his wife of 31 years raised three children. His second wife of 31 years, born in Ireland, was immersed with him in Irish affairs through a Maryland chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Quinlan was a devoted Catholic, a life-long Republican, a public servant, and a poet. He loved golf, hunting, and fishing. He was ahead of his time in advocating for racial justice. Due to his involvement in an accident which may have led to his second wife's death, he died a nearly broken man at age 91. |
