She began to share her thoughts, covering the emotional and subjective gamut on her Facebook page. Among other things, she investigated the development of a young hawk family growing up in a nearby tree; told about the experience of raising monarch butterflies; shared observations about her mother's descent into dementia; and relayed stories about her life lived in Canada and the United States.She did not realize how many of her friends were looking for encouragement from her writing until they started to chat about the postings and encouraged her to publish them. This former journalist had been writing to the published page for decades, but she hadn't been writing on Facebook from that perspective. I called over, 'Game's so slow you've got Spanish moss growing on you.'Thou shalt not have your computer below your head. I already see my own double chin more often than I'd like. If I wanted to see everyone else's, I would have become a cosmetic surgeon. My favorite view is the guillotine, where the chair is lower than the table and all you see on screen is this talking head, the body, apparently, still back in bed. |

While growing up, author Olivia Erinn often felt she was caught in a spider web; she experienced an abusive childhood and would later be involved in two abusive marriages. She came across the following facts about spiders and spider webs and found it quite similar to her feelings of entrapment. Spiders do not have teeth and do not chew their victims. Instead, they fill the bodies of their victims with poisonous juices which dissolve the victims insides. This is why you see the spiders victims laying in their webs. They are not saving them for later; they are in the process of dissolving their insides. Once the insides have been dissolved, the spider is then able to suck the victim as if it were water. The spiders web helps in this process. Once the victim is in the web, they cant get free. Spiders dont actually save their food for later; they just take a little while to prepare their meals. This is a great analogy of what an abuser or bully does with his or her victims. The abuseregardless of the form it takesis the abusers poison. Over time, the abuse weakens the victims self-esteem, and they eventually find themselves lying in the web, the life sucked right out of them. Once in the web, the victim finds it nearly impossible to get free of the abuser. In a sense, its a slow death to our physical, verbal, emotional, mental, sexual and spiritual beingsour very existence. But take heart; Olivia shares both her story and the necessary steps to discover and expose these kinds of individuals, known as narcissists. She provides the knowledge and ways to escape from these types of abusive relationships. |

To many country music fans the word conjures up memories of Saturday nights around the family radio listening to live broadcasts from that haven of hillbilly music, West Virginia. From 1926 through the 1950s, as Ivan Tribe shows in his lively history, country music radio programming made the Mountain State a mecca for country singers and instrumentalists from all over America. Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper, Little Jimmy Dickens, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Red Sovine, Blaine Smith, Curly Ray Cline, Grandpa Jones, Cowboy Loye, Rex and Eleanor Parker, Lee Moore, Buddy Starcher, Doc and Chickie Williams, and Molly O'Day were among the many who came to prominence via West Virginia radio. Wheeling's WWVA jamboree, first broadcast in 1933, attracted a wide audience, especially after 1942, when the station increased its power. The show's success spawned numerous competitors, as new stations all over West Virginia followed WWVA's lead in headlining country music. The state also played an important role in the early recording industry. The Tweedy Brothers, Frank Hutchison, Roy Harvey, Blind Alfred Reed, Frank Welling and John McGhee, Cap and Andy, and the Kessinger Brothers were among West Virginians whose waxings contributed to the state's reputation for fine native musicianship. So too did those who sought out and recorded the Mountaineer folksong heritage. As Nashville's dominance has grown since the 1960s, West Virginia's leadership in country music has lessened. Young performers must now seek fame outside their native state. But, as Ivan Tribe demonstrates, the state's numerous outdoor festivals continue to keep alive the heritage of country music's mountain mama. |
