manpowergroup public sector: Labor Intermediation Services in Developing Economies Jacqueline Mazza, 2016-12-16 This book demonstrates how rethinking and adapting basic employment services into labor intermediation services can help address the many labor market disconnections of developing country economies. It addresses how scarce resources required to escape poverty – good jobs, schools, and training - more often go to the privileged and well-connected than to those who need them most. With jobs now at the top of development debates, this is a rare book on how to practically adapt one key labor market policy to very different developing and emerging country markets. It shows through examples how developing countries can build in stages from basic employment services to diverse labor intermediation services – opening up job listings, stimulating public-private partnerships, and making job connections for those who don’t have a cousin Vinny who knows a guy. This book is for policy practitioners, development organizations, and academics who are ready to think differently about one of the policies that needs to change so that developing economies can better meet the employment and higher skill challenges of the global age. |

manpowergroup public sector: Strategy Activation Canvas Ansgar Thiessen, Robert Wreschniok, 2023-11-30 The Strategy Activation Canvas is the new standard for accelerating strategies – beginning where classical strategies end: with its activation. While many management and business canvases focus on developing a strategy, the Strategy Activation Canvas helps leaders and decision-makers to bring strategies to life. This book demonstrates for the first time how entire organizations can be “activated”: how people can not only perceive and implement a new strategy, but how entire organizations can be heavily involved in its making, how strategies are made visible and experienced, and how people can play an active and sustaining role throughout bringing a strategy to life. With their decades of experience in large scale organizations, Thiessen and Wreschniok pair their knowledge with case studies from Allianz, Baloise, E.ON, Hamburg Commercial Bank, Microsoft, NORD/LB, Swisscom or Swiss Re, organizations led by leaders who have significantly accelerated the success and value of their strategies through strategy activation. This book is an essential resource for managers who have responsibility for strategic initiatives and transformation programs of any kind. |

manpowergroup public sector: Routledge Handbook on Labour in Construction and Human Settlements Edmundo Werna, George Ofori, 2023-12-12 Routledge Handbook on Labour in Construction and Human Settlements presents a detailed and comprehensive examination of the relationship between labour and the built environment, and synergises these critical focus areas in innovative ways. This unrivalled edited collection of chapters analyses problems and presents possible solutions related to the employment and conditions of workers in the construction industry. It provides comprehensive coverage of the relationship between the global workforce and the built environment and is divided into four topical areas: how labour and the built environment relate to development; employment generation in the built environment; quality of employment in the built environment; and the impact of the built environment on labour in other sectors. Underpinning the entire book is the premise that the way the built environment is produced, and its main products – buildings, cities and towns – have an impact on large numbers of workers. At the same time, the quality of the built environment requires construction workers who are well trained and with good working conditions. While cities and towns are the engines of economic growth, they will not be able to fulfil their economic potential if poverty in the workforce is not addressed. Those who are unemployed, underemployed or work in unfavourable conditions cannot fully contribute to production, and at the same time are limited in their ability to purchase goods and services – therefore limiting economic growth and restricting improvements in their living standards. In addition, investments in infrastructure, housing and inner-city redevelopment cannot be sustainable if labour issues – i.e., poverty – are not addressed. This book aims at analysing this complex set of issues comprehensively and will be essential reading to a wide range of researchers across the interdisciplinary intersections of construction, business and management, economic development, urban studies, sociology, political science and project management. |
manpowergroup public sector: Beat Gender Bias Karen Morley, 2022-01-01 Bias might be built in to how our brains work, but that doesn't make it acceptable. manpowergroup public sector: Global Trends, Dynamics, and Imperatives for Strategic Development in Business Education in an Age of Disruption Zhuplev, Anatoly, Koepp, Robert, 2021-10-22 Over the past two centuries, the world’s socio-economic progression has gone through profound paradigm changes unfolding along four major development stages. Higher education has been an important part of this process. The accelerated pace of technological, socio-economic, and business innovations as well as ongoing fundamental changes in the real world call for progress in pedagogy. While modern universities have adapted in various degrees through information platforms such as Blackboard or Brightspace, video conferencing, and other technological innovations, they still commonly rely on pedagogical ideas and concepts rooted in a thoroughly pre-modern era rooted in medieval times. Global Trends, Dynamics, and Imperatives for Strategic Development in Business Education in an Age of Disruption explores the genesis of higher education and its contemporary structure and profile in major global regions and discusses key trends, dynamics, drivers, and developmental imperatives currently shaping business education. Covering topics such as business education, online education, and strategic development, this book is essential for teachers, managers, trainers, faculty, administrators, policymakers, researchers, academicians, and students involved in studies that include industrial, economic, social, urban, innovation, legal, and policy development. |

manpowergroup public sector: How the Private Sector Develops Skills: Lessons from India United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD), 2017-01-01 More young people live in India than in any other country and their numbers are projected to increase for decades to come. More than 12 million enter the workforce each year yet few have the skills required for employment. The Government of India has set a target to skill 400 million people by 2022 and established the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as part of this mission. Through NSDC, government is engaged with private sector partners to advance strategic approaches in skills development by creating public-private partnerships with companies involved in skill training. This is at the centre of a skills business “ecosystem” in India through which all players interact to produce a positive, productive system to skill millions. Momentum for the skills development movement comes not only from the urgent need to provide livelihoods for youth but also from the need to act before a window of opportunity closes. The “youth bulge” in India’s population is poised to deliver a demographic dividend, a transformational boost in economic productivity associated with growing numbers in the workforce relative to dependents. Only through investing in up-to-date education, health and decent work for youth can India harness this dividend. India requires skills to sustain its rapid economic growth, to integrate its large working-age population into the economy in an inclusive and sustainable manner and, ultimately, India needs skills in order to become a global supplier of human resources. This study focuses on 12 skills delivery initiatives led by the private sector and carried out to support the national skills mission of the Government of India. The objective of this study is to generate lessons from India’s experience in skilling, namely to identify and analyse impactful business models and their practices and innovations, to highlight challenges, and to provide insights on how the private sector could contribute even more to skills acquisition and employability. |

manpowergroup public sector: Global Labour in the Fourth Industrial Revolution Adrián Sotelo Valencia, 2023-02-27 In this latest work by the prolific Mexican theorist Adrián Sotelo Valencia, the COVID-19 pandemic is shown to have merely exacerbated the profound world capitalist crisis rooted in the 1970s structural exhaustion of the third industrial revolution. Sotelo explains how the current 4.0 revolution whose articulating axis is the development and expansion of artificial intelligence, Big Data, algorithms, 3D printing, the Internet of Things, and digital platforms constitutes a global strategy of capital and the state aimed at detaining the global capitalist crisis. The Digital Revolution heralds a new international division of labour with severe repercussions for labour, especially in dependent countries like Mexico. The foreword by Andrés Piqueras of the Universidad Jaume I de Castellón underlines the urgency to heed this insightful analysis. |
