It's a place considered to be in the middle of nowhere, yet ironically close to everywhere. It is an environment of real natural beauty and, simultaneously, one of real constructed ugliness. Er ist vor allem durch seine Fülle von selbst illustrierten Kinderbüchern und Puppenkomödien rund um den von ihm erfundenen Kasperl Larifari bekannt (Kasperlgraf). Darüber hinaus schrieb er Lieder und Gedichte für das kleine Volk. Bereits 1833 beschäftigte sich Pocci mit dem alemannischen Gedicht Der Carfunkel des Dichters, Pädagogen und Theologen Johann Peter Hebel (1760-1826). Zweieinhalb Jahrzehnte später griff er dessen Stoff literarisch auf: in seinem Stück Michel, der Feldbauer (1857), einem Volksdrama in drei Aufzügen. Am 18. Grazulis, 2009-03-11 In Lithuanians in Michigan Marius Grazulis recounts the history of an immigrant group that has struggled to maintain its identity. Grazulis estimates that about 20 percent of the 1.6 million Lithuanians who immigrated to the United States arrived on American shores between 1860 and 1918. While first-wave immigrants stayed mostly on the east coast, by 1920 about one-third of newly immigrated Lithuanians lived in Michigan, working in heavy industry and mining. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration.
