malichi z york: Metaphysical Africa Michael Muhammad Knight, 2021-11-30 The Ansaru Allah Community, also known as the Nubian Islamic Hebrews (AAC/NIH) and later the Nuwaubians, is a deeply significant and controversial African American Muslim movement. Founded in Brooklyn in the 1960s, it spread through the prolific production and dissemination of literature and lecture tapes and became famous for continuously reinventing its belief system. In this book, Michael Muhammad Knight studies the development of AAC/NIH discourse over a period of thirty years, tracing a surprising consistency behind a facade of serial reinvention. It is popularly believed that the AAC/NIH community abandoned Islam for Black Israelite religion, UFO religion, and Egyptosophy. However, Knight sees coherence in AAC/NIH media, explaining how, in reality, the community taught that the Prophet Muhammad was a Hebrew who adhered to Israelite law; Muhammad’s heavenly ascension took place on a spaceship; and Abraham enlisted the help of a pharaonic regime to genetically engineer pigs as food for white people. Against narratives that treat the AAC/NIH community as a postmodernist deconstruction of religious categories, Knight demonstrates that AAC/NIH discourse is most productively framed within a broader African American metaphysical history in which boundaries between traditions remain quite permeable. Unexpected and engrossing, Metaphysical Africa brings to light points of intersection between communities and traditions often regarded as separate and distinct. In doing so, it helps move the field of religious studies beyond conventional categories of “orthodoxy” and “heterodoxy,” challenging assumptions that inform not only the study of this particular religious community but also the field at large.

malichi z york: The Nuwaubian Nation Susan Palmer, 2016-12-05 The Nuwaubian Nation takes the reader on a journey into an African-American spiritual movement. The United Nuwaubian Nation has changed shape since its inceptions in the 1970s, transforming from a Black Hebrew mystery school into a Muslim utopian community in Brooklyn, N.Y.; from an Egyptian theme park into an Amerindian reserve in rural Georgia. This book follows the extraordinary career of Dwight York, who in his teens started out in a New York street gang, but converted to Islam in prison. Emerging as a Black messiah, York proceeded to break the Paleman’s spell of Kingu and to guide his people through a series of racial/religious identities that demanded dramatic changes in costume, gender roles and lifestyle. Dr. York’s Blackosophy is analyzed as a new expression of that ancient mystical worldview, Gnosticism. Referring to theories in the sociology of deviance and media studies, the author tracks the escalating hostilities against the group that climaxed in a Waco-style FBI raid on the Nuwaubian compound in 2002. In the ensuing legal process we witness Dr. York’s dramatic reversals of fortune; he is now serving a 135-year sentence as his Black Panther lawyer prepares to take his case to the Supreme Court. This book presents fresh and important insights into racialist spirituality and the social control of unconventional religions in America.

malichi z york: The Devil Don't Want You to Know Everett D. Griffin, 2009-06 This book was revealed within me when I began a self quest for Truth over ten years ago; the main theme of this book is Truth. For the most part Truth has been left out of many of our lives, due to our strict adherence to religious practices. This book contains information for the poor, well off and wealthy alike; compounding information and experiences gathered in my current life. My hope is that this book will be recognized as a tool, to point others in the True direction of the real Truth. It is only then, when one becomes enlightened to Truth; that a clear decision can be made by the self, as to finding ones True self, through the Tools found in ones self, in Truth. BIO: Seer Ashlamaz was born and raised in the windy city of Chicago, IL. As all who are sons and daughters of the Most High God, prophet began preaching to sick and shut in elderly at the age of eight years old. Prophet did as many, being one of the actual prodigal sons, and returned to his Father in 1996 with a tenacity that was not the normal. In his many journeys prophet has experienced one resurrection and the healing of hundreds. Having a strong prophetic anointing caused him to be misunderstood, until he was enlightened to the True self, the etheric. After learning of himself, prophet became aware of his purpose on earth as one of the many sons of the Most High God. Having such a strong divine nature his only endeavor is to spread Truth. When asked what he saw as most important in the future of God's people, his only reply was, Truth.

malichi z york: Apostate! No More Bazoodee: A Grenadian Quest to Think Outside the Box Seon M. Lewis, 2015-10-13 Most (if not all) Grenadians have grown up hearing stories of la diablesse, lagahou and sookooyant. But have you ever wondered about the origin of these stories? This book just doesn't re-tell these stories. It traces their origins, and looks at them as being influential in helping shape our self-identity and our interpersonal relationship. In fact, this book examines and critiques aspects of the Grenadian sociocultural and sociopolitical culture that seek, in many ways, to minimize and suppress the individual's search for self-identity especially as he or she tries to pursue knowledge that appears to be outside the socially accepted. In doing so, this book follows the author's journey as he analyzes old ideas and engaged with new ones. Also central to this book is that it seeks to help the individual develop his or her moral and ethical awareness.

malichi z york: The Aliites Spencer Dew, 2019-08-20 “Citizenship is salvation,” preached Noble Drew Ali, leader of the Moorish Science Temple of America in the early twentieth century. Ali’s message was an aspirational call for black Americans to undertake a struggle for recognition from the state, one that would both ensure protection for all Americans through rights guaranteed by the law and correct the unjust implementation of law that prevailed in the racially segregated United States. Ali and his followers took on this mission of citizenship as a religious calling, working to carve out a place for themselves in American democracy and to bring about a society that lived up to what they considered the sacred purpose of the law. In The Aliites, Spencer Dew traces the history and impact of Ali’s radical fusion of law and faith. Dew uncovers the influence of Ali’s teachings, including the many movements they inspired. As Dew shows, Ali’s teachings demonstrate an implicit yet critical component of the American approach to law: that it should express our highest ideals for society, even if it is rarely perfect in practice. Examining this robustly creative yet largely overlooked lineage of African American religious thought, Dew provides a window onto religion, race, citizenship, and law in America.
malichi z york: Ungodly Bill Osinski, 2007 Ungodly is the strange, shameful story of how a street kid declared himself a god and was thus granted immunity for a long career of crime. Dwight York, aka Imam Isa, Dr. Malachi Z. York, and Baba, among others, was so adept at playing the race and religion cards that, for 35 years he successfully trumped a series of politicians, prosecutors, police and school officials, academicians and journalists who might have, or should have, stopped him. So this is also the shameful story of how the fear of being politically incorrect, of being accused of practicing discrimination based on race and religion, silenced the majority and allowed the abuses to continue unabated, while young lives were destroyed.
malichi z york: Moorish Circle 7 Keith Moore 32, 2005-05-04 This book is based on the theory that the black Muslim movement was created from the knowledge of the Masonic order. In the early decades of the 20th century, noble drew ali established a political and religious organization known today as the Moorish Science Temple of America. It was this organization that exposed black to something other than the normal Christian influences of that day. Ali a high degree freemason, incorporated various Masonic teachings from an auxiliary group. Known as the AEAONMS ancient Egyptian Arabic order of noble of the mystic shrine A pseudo Islamic/Arabic oriental organization that served as a wake up call to a lost knowledge. A knowledge that was taken away from Africans during the slave trades. The theory behind this book is that the majority of the slaves that were taken from the west coast of Africa were practicing Muslims, and these Muslims were forced to convert to Christianity under the strong oppression of slavery. At one time Afro-Americans were the biggest minority in the American society. About 90% of the todays population of blacks are descendants of slaves that were brought to America for working on plantations since the 16th century. At the beginning of the 19th century most of the so-called Negroes lived in the plantation areas of the Southern States. After the Civil War and the abolition of slavery it wasnt until the early 1920s and 30s that blacks were beginning to experiment with other faiths. Of all the faiths Islam became the fastest growing religion and the most popular. This book by far is in no way a research into black history, instead it covers a more deeper aspect of history in which I call the history behind the history. It explores the true Asiatic origins of the ancient religions of Hinduism, Buddhism well as the Islamic faith. Finally It explores the Masonic symbolisms of alis Moorish science dogma digging deeper into the esoteric side of his Aquarian/Masonic teaching explaining their origins and discovering an age old wisdom that had been kept hidden from the human eye. One would think that Africans in the Americas would have rejected the religious tradition of their European oppressors taking into consideration that African religions are far older & they possess more sources of knowledge & spiritual salvation. Yet there are those who have turned away from traditional Christian dominated environments in order to find a greater understanding of themselves and the world in which they live. One alternative has been to seek knowledge in the various religious groups that arose in the 20th century.

The result is this semi-autobiographical book, with multiple histories of Fard and the landscape of American Islam woven into Knight’s own story. In the course of his adventures, Knight sorts out his own relationship to Islam as he journeys from punk provocateur to a recognized voice in the community, and watches first-hand the collapse of a liberal Islamic dream.
