integral yoga: Integral Psychology Brant Cortright, 2007-04-01 A bold new view of the human psyche, integrating Eastern and Western approaches. Integral Psychology connects Eastern and Western approaches to psychology and healing. Psychology in the East has focused on our inner being and spiritual foundation of the psyche. Psychology in the West has focused on our outer being and the wounding of the body-heart-mind and self. Each requires the other to complete it, and in bringing them together an integral view of psychology comes into view. The classical Indian yogas are used as a way to see psychotherapy: psychotherapy as behavior change or karma yoga; psychotherapy as mindfulness practice or jnana yoga; psychotherapy as opening the heart or bhakti yoga. Finally, an integral approach is suggested that synthesizes traditional Western and Eastern practices for healing, growth, and transformation. Very few books go deeply into the spiritual area that Wilber calls the Subtle, but this one does it brilliantly It opens up the spiritual heart of the person in a way that makes the further journey into the more abstract realms easier and less stressful. BACP North London Magazine The discussion of how the three primary yogasjnana, karma, and bhaktican be applied within Western psychotherapies is excellent. The account of mindfulness practice is first-rate, as, too, is the discussion of bhakti practice and the opening of the heart. The author has a great deal to contribute to an important area of inquiry. Michael Washburn, author of Embodied Spirituality in a Sacred World Cortrights synthesis of Eastern and Western spiritual and psychological perspectives is insightful, well developed, and often profound. I have been stimulated to think about psychotherapeutic problems from a larger perspective. John E. Nelson, M.D., author of Healing the Split: Integrating |

integral yoga: The Golden Present Swami Satchidananda, 1987 These daily inspirational readings contain Swami Satchidananda's teachings on the spiritual lifehow to serve others and realize peace, truth, and union with the divine. Culled from twenty-five years of lectures to spiritual seekers in the West and the East, these readings are expressed with the simplicity and authority of one who speaks from his own experience. What is purity of heart? It's a heart full of tranquility and peace. Having a steady mind, a balanced mind, is what you call purity of heart. You must be well balanced between the dualities: the ups and downs, the pleasure and pain, the profit and loss. If the mind is free from turbulence, then the seer can see its own nature. If your heart is pure and steady, you can see God reflected in that steady heart. |

But how do you choose between mysterious-sounding names such as Ashtanga, Kundalini, Bikram, and Kripalu? As Meagan McCrary discovered when she began exploring different classes, finding the right style is essential for establishing a steady yoga practice. integral yoga: Yoga Therapy for Arthritis Dr Steffany Moonaz, Erin Byron, 2018-12-21 Yoga therapy is commonly used for the management of arthritis, but often focusses exclusively on adaptation of the physical poses and on structural solutions. This book moves beyond the traditional routines to present yoga as a lifestyle designed to improve quality of life and overall well-being for individuals living with arthritis and rheumatic conditions. By incorporating the ancient practices of yoga as both physical and mental exercises involving a model of 5-koshas or sheaths (physical, energetic, mental/emotional, wisdom, and spiritual), the yoga therapy practice presented here will help reduce pain and shift the perspective of the individual living with arthritis. This therapy uses a whole-person approach that employs a broad range of tools to address the biopsychosocial effects of arthritis through the application of yoga practices and philosophy. Useful as a guide for people living with arthritis, this book is full of inspiration for self care along with instructions for yoga teachers and medical professionals to guide their clients using this whole-person perspective. |

integral yoga: Overcoming Obstacles Swami Satchidananda, 2011-04 One's whole life is an obstacle course. The more obstacles you overcome, the bigger the prize. If you avoid the obstacles, then there is no prize. Without those obstacles, you would never discover your capabilities. So instead of cursing the obstacles on your path, or the people who placed them there, try to find ways that will help you face them and overcome them. And when you do, a great joy will arise within you and you will bless the obstacles instead of cursing them. This quote from Overcoming Obstacles captures the flavor of total positive thinking with which Swami Satchidananda teaches us to approach life's inevitable challenges and convert all to opportunities for victory, fun, fulfillment, and joy. Overcoming Obstacles is full of practical and priceless guidance. |

integral yoga: The Metaphysics of Becoming Thomas Padiyath, 2014-08-22 This study attempts to elucidate a possible meeting point of the traditions of Eastern and Western metaphysical thinking. In discussing Whitehead’s and Aurobindo’s views on being and becoming, it seeks the possibility of a better engagement between the East and the West in the light of the philosophical insights. It is an initiation into the Sitz im Leben of Whitehead’s philosophy and his general thought pattern. It carries a perceptive analysis to show the clear primacy of Becoming or Process in Whitehead that extends even to the Divine. It also highlights Aurobindo as a unique Indian Philosopher, who articulated Indian thought in Western categories. He was able to integrate the evolutionary theory of the West with the Indian understanding of becoming. The relationship between God and Creativity and Sachchidananda and the Supermind is studied within the context of Enlightenment and Modernity and the way of doing philosophy in the West and in the East. |

NOTE: The complete text of Record of Yoga was brought out serially in the Sri Aurobindo Archives and Research journal. This is the first time that it has been brought out in book form (in both soft and hard cover). This material did not appear in the Sri Aurobindo Birth Centenary Library (SABCL) set. Those who already have the SABCL set of 30 volumes may prefer procuring the hard cover editions as they are bound in cloth, light cream in colour, with PVC jacket and match the colour and binding of the SABCL set. In writing his diary Sri Aurobindo used a special terminology which included words from Sanskrit and other languages, as well as abbreviations, symbols and markings. integral yoga: Alternative Healthcare Jack Raso, 2013-12-05 Raso examines the philosophical underpinnings of alternative medicine as well as hands-on healing, Qigong, and faith healing. The final section is a firsthand account of Raso's many revealing visits to various alternative healthcare practitioners. The book concludes with an encyclopedic glossary of alternative healthcare terminology. |
