i cried holy: The Tabernacle Jeff Clark, 2018-01-22 The Tabernacle By: Jeff Clark The Tabernacle follows the sweeping 13,000 year history of two central Texas farm communities: Alameda and Cheaney. Searching along winding wooded trails, uncovering hidden homesteads miles from the nearest road and listening at last to the words of teachers four decades his senior, author Jeff Clark begins to hear the tale of timeless lands, and the lessons as it finally breaks open in his own life. This sprawling epic is full of firsthand testimony about the harsh settlement of the Texas frontier, as well as surprising glimpses into his storytellers’ twenty-first century lives. The Tabernacle will move you deeply, as it has moved within the lives of many generations encamped along the shores of the Leon River. |
i cried holy: My Hope Is Built Erol Channer, 2012-02-29 The journey in life that we all take moves along different paths but there is a familiar tone to each travellers experience. No one can claim that life is an uninterrupted journey without frequent stops and starts. The reason for stopping or even slowing down, the length of time we stop vary but the consensus is that something will happen to force us off the course we would rather stay on. Because we are individuals and different, the weight that bears down on us from these incidents differs and none of us can make a judgement call on the other person that a load is too easy or hard to bear. We endure our load alone but with help from God or his agents (friends, family and a good book). The book My Hope is Built is an encouraging and pleasant reminder that there is a link between whatever you are going through and Gods purpose for your life. |
i cried holy: I Got Shoes: A Memoir James L. Lipscomb, 2018-07-31 James L. Lipscomb pays homage to the Negro community, now extinct, that existed in Coeymans, New York in the first half of the twentieth century. The residents were largely migrants from Virginia and Carolinas in search of a better life. Lipscomb introduces you to the people of the Negro community with engaging profiles that brings the community to life again. Lipscomb traces his childhood history as he began working outside the home at age nine, became an accomplished house painter at twelve, and eventually moved beyond Coeymans to pursue an education at Howard University and later at Columbia University School of Law. While disclosing experiences that included adjusting to cultural change and academic challenges while attending law school and serving as a poll watcher in Mississippi where he was afraid to use the bathroom at night, Lipscomb also details the struggles of the times as America endured major societal changes. |

i cried holy: Opening the Windows of Your Soul James Cantelon, 2024-01-10 Have we forgotten how to pray? Have we forgotten the purpose of prayer? There is a huge need to rediscover prayer--to rediscover the genius of the greatest template ever presented to mankind: the Lord's Prayer. Why? Because Jesus is the ultimate teacher, who brings us back to the basics and coaches us in praying the Lord's will--not ours. This book will encourage the reader to confidently pray God's will, not theirs. Meditating on the Lord's Prayer will lead the reader from a frustrating exercise in wish fulfillment to faith in the Lord's sovereignty that God does what is best. Prayer as a means to instant gratification or a pleading for a cause will yield to prayer as an expression of partnership with the Lord, providing a calm sense of spiritual security. Those who pray will be secure in the knowledge that the Lord's will is being done. James Cantelon's reaffirming of the power of the Lord's Prayer is informed by more than fifty years of Christian ministry, researching the scriptures, and ministering to the needy and spiritually insecure. His perspective is informed by four decades of praying with various and foreign cultures (Israel, many African nations, and India). |

i cried holy: Bad Boy of Gospel Music Russ Cheatham, 2010-03-05 “I messed up,” Calvin Newton lamented, after wasting thirty years and doing time in both state and federal prisons for theft, counterfeiting, and drug violations. “These were years of my life that I could have been singing gospel music.” During his prime, he was super-handsome, athletic, and charged with sexual charisma that attracted women to him like flies to honey. Atop this abundance was his astounding voice, “the voice of an angel.” This book is his prodigal-son story. Audacious, Newton never turned down a dare, even if it meant climbing on the roof of a speeding car or wading into a freezing ocean. As a boy boxer, he was a Kentucky Golden Gloves champ who k.o.’ed his opponent in twenty-three seconds. By his late teens he had been recruited by the Blackwood Brothers, the number-one gospel quartet in the world. In his mid-twenties while he was singing Christian songs with the Oak Ridge Quartet, Newton’s mighty talent and movie-star looks took him deep into hedonism--reckless driving, heavy romancing, and addictive pill popping. As 1950s rock ‘n’ roll began its invasion of gospel, he and two partners formed the Sons of Song, the first all-male gospel trio. Long before the pop sound claimed contemporary Christian music, the Sons of Song turned gospel upside down with histrionic harmony, high-styled tuxedos, and Hollywood verve. Their signature song, “Wasted Years,” foreshadowed Newton’s punishing fall. This biography looks back at the destructive lifestyle that wrecked a sparkling career. When well into his sixties, Newton turned his life around and was able to confront his demons and discuss his prodigal days. He talked extensively with Russ Cheatham about his self- destruction and the great personal expense of his own bad-boy choices and late redemption. In this candid biography, one of gospel’s all-stars discloses a messed-up life that vacillated between achievement and failure, fame and infamy, happiness and grief. |
i cried holy: The Journey Janice Artry-Turner, 2018-08-17 The Bible reveals in the New Testament that women held leadership positions as apostles, church planters, and much more. Jesus welcomed and taught women about the kingdom of God, and he expected female disciples to become “fishers of men.” The Great Commission was given to all disciples of Christ, and so Jesus expected women to win souls and do greater works than he did. The Journey: The Chronicles of a Woman Apostle will inspire and empower you if you are a female disciple of Jesus Christ with a burning desire to fulfill your ministry—but have not answered the call for fear of persecution and rejection. Author and minister Janice Artry-Turner shares her own inspiring story as she encourages fellow Christian women to cultivate their ministries, learning through scripture how Jesus’s birth and ministry revolutionized the lives of women by reversing the Adamic curse when God chose Mary of Nazareth, a woman, to be the mother of the Lamb of God. The author’s prophetic voice declares this book will ignite the flames of evangelism in the hearts of every reader: *Stirring up dormant gifts *Uniting the Body of Christ *Strengthening the weary *Fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus Christ... *Liberating the bound GO! TEACH! BAPTIZE! Matthew 28:18-20 |
i cried holy: The Mahalia Jackson Reader Mark Burford, 2020-03-02 Born in New Orleans before migrating to Chicago, Mahalia Jackson (1911-72) is undoubtedly the most widely known black gospel singer, having achieved fame among African American communities in the 1940s then finding a wide audience among non-black U.S. and international audiences after she signed with major label Columbia Records in 1954. The newest entry in OUP's celebrated Readers on American Musicians series,ÂThe Mahalia Jackson ReaderÂplaces Jackson's musical performances and their reception against key changes in 20th-century America, changes that include transformations of the recorded music industry, the increasing visibility of the civil rights movement, a florescence of Cold War-era religiosity, and an explosion of popularity of black gospel music itself. Jackson's career combines parallel tracks as a black church singer and as a national pop celebrity, and makes her one of the most complex and important black artists of the postwar decades. Gospel is a particularly challenging genre to study because of the paucity of sources. BecauseÂof Jackson's celebrity, there is more substantial coverage of her life and work than other gospel artists, but Jackson scholarship is still largely dependent on trade biographies from the 1970s for source material. For this reader, Mark Burford has gone beyond the standard biographies and has drawn from extensive archival research, including in the volume interview transcripts and the largely-untouched papers of Jackson's associate Bill Russell, who kept a journal tracking Jackson's activities from 1951 to 1955. The new sources - in particular Russell's notes - uniquely enable an assessment of the reciprocal relationship between the two careers Jackson pursued, essentially simultaneously: as an in-demand church singer in Chicago, and as a media star for a major network and recording label. |

i cried holy: COME SHARE THE COOKIES Diane Thompson, 2013-10 Victor Hugo once said There is one thing stronger than all the armies in the world, and that is an idea whose time has come. For 55 years, it had not even dawned on me that I was a writer. My first clue should have been when I realized that there absolutely wasn't anything about which I didn't have an opinion. For five years I published a weekly newsletter for my church. No one else seemed to want to do it, and it was something that I loved doing. The fourteen years that I worked as an Insurance Agent should also have given me a nudge. I often gave group presentations that included stories about so many of my life experiences. Many clients encouraged me to write them down and share them with others. But it took a life-changing crisis that made me take a look within and find why God had placed me here. I have written a collection of insights that I gained during the first half of my life. Each chapter begins with a joke, a thought or a scripture that I believe God laid on my heart. The body of each chapter consists of a relating experience, insight or lesson that I gained. And each chapter is completed with a prayer. I have noticed how people are enjoying inspirational books that are also a Quick read such as mine. I submitted Chapter Five to the Indianapolis Star and it was published in the Faith and Values section of that newspaper. I think that one sign that a book could be good is when the reader wants more. Each person who has read these chapters did exactly that and asked if they can pass on to others what they have enjoyed or gained from my book. I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to read some of what I believe God has shown me in my life. Come Share The Cookies. Lord, bless this reader, Amen. |

This is her fifth poetry book, and she also posts her poems online where she reaches thousands around the world. She gives all the glory and credit to God, for as she says, “If it's good, it is God. Still, her favorite job was and still is being a mother and Nana. This fifth book is inspirational like her last one, so if you liked her prior books, you are in for a pleasant revelation. In reading this book, you will be blessed, surprised, and hungry for more.
