holy spirit revivals charles grandison finney: The Backslider in Heart Charles Finney, 2020-03-24 This Classic book - The Backslider in Heart -- introduces and orients the reader to critical biblical/theological thinking from a biblical perspective. Finney's presentation is written with a clarity that fosters biblical thought and facilitates Bible comprehension. You won't be disappointed. While staunch Calvinists believed in the perseverance of the saints, Finney believed that a Christian could backslide, or turn back from the Christian life and revert to a life of sin. In this address, Finney clarifies his theology of backsliding, first explaining what it is not, then what it is. He describes what a backslidden life might look like, and what consequences living in sin bring upon the sinner. Finney is consistently one of the best Bible scholars and this one is at the top of his writing. He's bold in his writings but solid in Scripture. It's impossible to measure the influence of Finney over God's church. His works remain in print and are widely read, which shouldn't surprise us. He is considered one of the most outstanding pastoral, evangelistic writers on practical and devotional themes.

holy spirit revivals charles grandison finney: Love Again, Live Again Joan Hunter, 2018-11-06 Everyone gets their feelings hurt in life. As these wounds fester and compound throughout life, they become scars that affect our current relationships. Anyone suffering from a wounded heart feels a sense of separation from people, but the separation it creates from our heavenly Father is far worse for our mind, body and soul. “Broken Heart Syndrome” is a recognized medical condition. Tests show that the pain caused by relational stress or trauma releases stress hormones to circulate through the body. This causes the inner layers of the heart to shred, damaging the cardiac muscle and its capacity to pump blood throughout the body. The chest pain this can cause resembles a serious heart attack. Stents or angioplasty can treat blocked vessels, but modern medicine still has no quick fix for a broken heart. Joan Hunter reveals how to heal your heart from past hurts. To do this, you must be set free from the trauma of past relationships that prevent you from giving of yourself to those most important to you today. In doing so, you will also restore your most important relationship—the one with your heavenly Father.
holy spirit revivals charles grandison finney: Letters on Revival Charles Finney, 2016-07-07 The fact is brethren, a revival must take place among ministers. If there could be a protracted meeting for ministers--if some hundreds of ministers would assemble and preach and pray and labor for each other's spiritual welfare until there was a deep and thorough revival of religion among them--if they would deal so faithfully with each other and so affectionately as to get their hearts together, and together get into a deep sympathy with Christ, they would no doubt return from such a meeting to their several charges and the result would be a general revival of religion throughout their churches. Brethren, what can be done to affect the ministry rightly, to bring them off from this jangling and sectarianism, ambition and every evil way, and engage their hearts to live and die for Christ and for souls? O, this is the great thing needed. If this can be attained, the day of Zion's glory has dawned. But if ministers are to backslide and turn aside to vain jangling--to church politics and maneuvering, as they have for the last few years, I am persuaded that God must either let the churches under their influence go into a state of still deeper degradation and backsliding, or else He must set them aside and introduce some instrumentality independent of them to build up the wastes of Zion. My soul is greatly troubled and my spirit is stirred within me in looking at the state of the ministry. Brethren, will you let me speak in love? Will you be offended with me if I tell you all my heart? For Zion's sake, I cannot rest and for Jerusalem's sake I cannot hold my peace. Will the brethren wake up and lay hold on God for a general revival of religion? When shall it once be? Your Brother,C.G. FINNEY GET MORE BOOKS AT REVIVALPRESS.NET

It is wisdom to learn about revival from a person who had great success in conducting revivals. And history shows that Charles Finney definitely had great and long lasting success in carrying out revivals. If you want to have great revivals, it would be wise to diligently study Finney in this regard. The Christian Preservation Society summarizes this amazing work of God as follows: --- Finney Biography Excerpt by Christian Preservation Society --- Christian people, are you figuring round and round to get a little property, yet neglecting souls? Beware lest you ruin souls that can never live again! The greatest outpouring of Charles's life came in Rochester, New York, starting in September 1830. Lyman Beecher, one of Finney's harshest critics in his early years, would eventually call the revival in Rochester the greatest work of God, and the greatest revival of religion, that the world has ever seen, in so short a time. One hundred thousand ... were reported as having connected themselves with churches. [Charles Finney, Memoirs of Charles Finney, New York: A. S. Barnes and Company, 1876]. It was recorded that as many as eighty-five percent of those converted remained Christians years later. It was a revival that touched all social classes - from civic and business leaders to schoolteachers, physicians, shopkeepers, farmers, and migrant workers. Bars closed for lack of patrons. Crime rates dropped dramatically and stayed low for years, even as the population grew. At one point, the teenagers in the local high school were so distraught about the condition of their souls that they paid no attention to their lessons, so the director invited Finney to come and speak. Nearly the entire student body was saved, including the director, who had originally thought it was a ploy by the students to get out of their work. Forty of the students went on to become ministers. One of these later wrote: The whole community was stirred. Religion was the topic of conversation, in the house, in the shop, in the office and on the street. The only theater in the city was converted into a livery stable; the only circus into a soap and candle factory. Grog shops were closed; the Sabbath was honored; the sanctuaries were thronged with happy worshippers; a new impulse was given to every philanthropic enterprise; the fountains of benevolence where opened, and men lived to good. [V. Raymond Edman, Finney Lives On, Minneapolis, MN: Bethany House Publishers, 1971] The Rochester revival would prove to be the height of the Second Great Awakening and a spark to light the fuse of a national revival that ran like wildfire throughout the United States in 1831. A host of evangelists, including Beecher himself, took up the torch from Rochester, and the rolls of membership swelled in churches everywhere - Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, Episcopalian, Congregational, and others alike. --- End Of Finney Biography Excerpt ---

holy spirit revivals charles grandison finney: The Supernatural Occurrences of Charles G. Finney Daniel R. Jennings, 2009-10-20 Charles G. Finney (1792-1875) was one of the most successful of the 19th century evangelists. His ministry efforts influenced the likes of William Booth and D. L. Moody along with a whole host of lesser known pastors, teachers, evangelists and missionaries. While his itinerant ministry has been well documented, lesser known are the miracles that he recorded experiencing in his Memoirs. Here, perhaps for the first time, an attempt has been made to compile and analyze these experiences in an attempt to answer the enduring question of whether miracles ended with the completion of the Canon of Scripture or if they will continue until the Second Coming.
