Chapter 23 summarizes the economic importance of gymnosperms. Chapter 24 gives the conciuding remarks. Thus, there is a complete coverage of significant findings concerning morphology, anatomy, reproduction, development of embryo and seed, cytology, and -evolutionary trends and phylogeny. Ultrastructural and histochemical details are given wherever considered necessary. There is a comprehensive list of literature citations, and a plant index. gymnosperms classification: Botany: An Introduction To Plant Biology Dr. Smriti Kukshal, Dr. R.P. Kuksal, 2023-03-30 Botany is a subfield of biology that focuses on the study of plant life and growth from a scientific standpoint. It is an expansive scientific field that studies a wide range of topics related to plants i.e.algae, fungi, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperm etc. These topics include growth, reproduction, metabolism, development, illnesses, chemical qualities, and the evolutionary links between the many groups of organisms. Botany is one of the oldest disciplines, and its origins may be traced back to early human efforts to identify which plants were safe to eat, which were useful for medicine, and which were harmful to humans. The study of botany has expanded to include more than 550000 species at this point in time. This significance may be seen via a variety of lenses, such as the influence that it has on farming, medicine, and efforts to preserve the natural world. The use of botany in agricultural settings is among its most significant uses. Research in botany has resulted in the creation of new and better crop types that are more resistant to invasive organisms, infectious illnesses, and the effects of environmental stress. This has significantly contributed to an increase in global food security as well as a reduction in poverty in a number of developing nations. |
gymnosperms classification: A TEXT-BOOK OF BOTANY Dr. R. R. Tembhurne, Dr. N. S. Mali, Shri. S. U. Shinde, Shri. D. S. Bhise, Mrs. S. M. Satpute, 2016-12-21 A fungus is a eukaryote microbe that absorbs nutrients directly through its cell walls from the host / substrate and digests food. Most fungi reproduce sexually and by asexual spores. They have a body (thallus) composed of microscopic tubular cells called hyphae. Fungi are heterotrophs and obtain their carbon and energy from other organisms. Some fungi are parasites and obtain their food from a living host (plant or animal) and hence they are called biotrophs. Some fungi are growing as saprophytes and obtain their food from dead plants or animals. Some fungi infect a living host, but kill host cells in order to obtain their nutrients; these are called necrotrophs. Fungi were once considered to be primitive members of the plant kingdom and are slightly more advanced than bacteria. Fungi are more closely related to animals than they are to plants. |

gymnosperms classification: Plant Diversity in India A.K. Bhatnagar, Rupam Kapoor, 2018-07-24 India has a vast landmass of 328 million hectares, extending from the tropics to the alpine regions, rich wetlands to deserts, islands, long coastline to Western and Eastern Ghats and the high Himalayas. It has equally rich and diverse plant diversity, with over 47,000 species that are already documented. Because of the large population dependence on these plants, expansion of agriculture, urbanization and development efforts, many species are threatened too. Some of the issues concerning plant diversity in India are unique to the country. Taxonomic and floristic studies on all major groups have been carried out but the information is scattered in research papers and regional/local floras, manuals and monographs. This volume intends to bridge this gap. Nine of the thirteen chapters of this volume deals with different plant groups extending from algae to angiosperms and allied groups such as bacteria, fungi, lichens, and myxomycetes. There are chapters dealing with topical issues in global context on biodiversity with special reference to India such as climate change and its impact on biodiversity, crop diversity, and tradomedicalism. Each chapter is written by author(s) specialising on the particular group and having long experience of research in it. Each chapter includes not only distribution and diversity but also major researches, economic uses and conventional human interactions. Lacunae in current knowledge are also pinpointed. The book provides information on ecosystem diversity, flora of special sensitive regions (mangroves, wetland, and coral reefs), and on policies and strategies being adopted for in situ and ex situ conservation. |

gymnosperms classification: Plant Systematics Gurcharan Singh, 2019-06-07 This fourth edition of Plant Systematics is completely revised and updated. It incorporates the updated International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi and Plants (Shenzhen Code, 2018), the new version of PhyloCode (Beta version of Phylocode 5, 2014), APweb version 14 (September, 2018), revised Angiosperm Phylogeny Group classification (APG IV, 2016), new Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group Classification (PPG I, 2016), besides the updates since the publication of third edition. The book is a blend of classical fundamental aspects and recent developments, especially in the field of molecular systematics, cladistics and computer identification. Special attention has been given to information on botanical nomenclature, identification, molecular systematics and phylogeny of angiosperms. The complicated concepts of phylogeny, taxometrics and cladistics have been explained with a view to providing a comparison between these diverse but interactive fields of study. An attempt has been made to build upon a common example when exploring different methods, especially in procedures of identification, taxometrics and cladistics. The major systems of classification are evaluated critically. Discussion on major families of Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms, especially those of major phylogenetic interest, form a major portion of this edition. The ebook includes nearly 500 color photographs set out in 36 pages covering plants from different parts of the world. In addition, 305 black & white illustrations have been included to provide a better understanding of the plants covered in the book. |
