hebrew and greek bible dictionary: Mounce's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words William D. Mounce, 2009-12-15 For years, Vine’s Expository Dictionary has been the standard word study tool for pastors and laypeople, selling millions of copies. But sixty-plus years of scholarship have shed extensive new light on the use of biblical Greek and Hebrew, creating the need for a new, more accurate, more thorough dictionary of Bible words. William Mounce, whose Greek grammar has been used by more than 100,000 college and seminary students, is the editor of this new dictionary, which will become the layperson’s gold standard for biblical word studies. Mounce’s is ideal for the reader with limited or no knowledge of Greek or Hebrew who wants greater insight into the meanings of biblical words to enhance Bible study. It is also the perfect reference for busy pastors needing to quickly get at the heart of a word’s meaning without wading through more technical studies. What makes Mounce’s superior to Vine’s? The most accurate, in-depth definitions based on the best of modern evangelical scholarship Both Greek and Hebrew words are found under each English entry (Vine’s separates them) Employs both Strong’s and G/K numbering systems (Vine’s only uses Strong’s) Mounce’s accuracy is endorsed by leading scholars |

hebrew and greek bible dictionary: New Testament Greek to Hebrew Dictionary - 500 Greek Words and Names Retranslated Back Into Hebrew for English Readers Jeff A. Benner, 2011-04-04 Recent archeological and linguistic evidence reveals that the Jews of the New Testament era spoke Hebrew, not Greek as has been taught for so many years. With this revelation, we can conclude that the teachings of the New Testament were first conveyed, either in spoken or written form, in Hebrew, which means that the New Testament must be understood from a Hebraic perspective and not a Greek one. The first step in this process is to translate the Greek words of the New Testament into Hebrew. While translating the Greek words into Hebrew, may sound overwhelming for many, it is in fact, a very simple process that anyone can perform, even without any prior studies in Greek or Hebrew. All that is required is a Strong's Concordance and this book. This book lists the five hundred most frequent Greek words of the New Testament and provides their Hebrew translations and Hebraic definitions, with all Greek and Hebrew words cross-referenced with Strong's numbers. |

hebrew and greek bible dictionary: The Ancient Hebrew Lexicon of the Bible Jeff A. Benner, 2021-06-28 All previous Biblical Hebrew lexicons have provided a modern western definition and perspective to Hebrew roots and words. This prevents the reader of the Bible from seeing the ancient authors' original intent of the passages. This is the first Biblical Hebrew lexicon that defines each Hebrew word within its original Ancient Hebrew cultural meaning. One of the major differences between the Modern Western mind and the Ancient Hebrew's is that their mind related all words and their meanings to a concrete concept. For instance, the Hebrew word chai is normally translated as life, a western abstract meaning, but the original Hebrew concrete meaning of this word is the stomach. In the Ancient Hebrew mind, a full stomach is a sign of a full life. The Hebrew language is a root system oriented language and the lexicon is divided into sections reflecting this root system. Each word of the Hebrew Bible is grouped within its roots and is defined according to its original ancient cultural meaning. Also included in each word entry are its alternative spellings, King James translations of the word and Strong's number. Indexes are included to assist with finding a word within the lexicon according to its spelling, definition, King James translation or Strong's number. |

hebrew and greek bible dictionary: Hebrew Word Study Chaim Bentorah, 2014-06-25 Many Christians long to study the Word of God in the original Hebrew. They will take Hebrew classes at a college, a synagogue, or online and often become discouraged because these classes either teach them to speak Hebrew or spend considerable time teaching complex rules of grammar when all these Christians want to do is find God's heart and message in His Word. As a result, these Christians usually give up and just go to the back of their Strong's Concordance, a lexicon, or a Bible dictionary to look up a word. This book is written for the Christian who does not want to learn to speak Hebrew or spend long hours trying to understand complex rules of grammar. All they want is to know if there is a deeper meaning to certain Hebrew words. Even after looking up a word in their lexicon, they are still left with a nagging feeling that there must be more. In most cases there is more, and this book will give some guidelines in how to drill down into the very heart, soul, and core of a Hebrew word; it will take you to a world beyond your lexicon, and you do not need a PhD to do it. The only thing you will need is to love the Word of God, and if you love it enough, it will reveal its secrets. Hebrew is a language of the heart, and if you love God enough, He will reveal His heart to you through the ancient Hebrew language. |

hebrew and greek bible dictionary: Mickelson Clarified Dictionary of Old Testament Hebrew, MCT Jonathan K. Mickelson, 2015-09-07 This biblical reference dictionary reconciles biblical English vocabulary with biblical Hebrew (and Aramaic) vocabulary in order to assure the highest degree of conceptual integrity while maintaining English word consistency with the Hebrew text itself. The companion reference translation uses this vocabulary to reveal the fullness of the biblical Hebrew, along with using enhanced grammar and punctuation. The Mickelson Clarified Translation was hand-translated into an easily readable English dialect that preserves the distinct concepts and contextual meanings used in the Hebrew text. This translation carefully interweaves biblical patterns of speech and communication into modern English. The benefit is a more accurate presentation and correlation of biblical thoughts, concepts and instructions.Through the use of this dictionary, one will learn biblical Hebrew (and Aramaic) words and concepts along with associated Hebraic concepts and eternal spiritual truths. However, in order to truly enjoy a fuller understanding of the richness and clarity of God's Word, the student should embrace both biblical Hebrew and Greek as specially selected languages. This clarified Hebrew dictionary and its clarified companion translation were created to help one move beyond the traditional limitations of English translation. One may readily partake more fully of the written conversation. The purpose is to bring the English-speaking person to the Word of God, not the Word of God to the English-speaking person. That is, by using a clarified biblical English vocabulary, to bring the person up toward the fullness of the Holy Scriptures, and not to diminish the Holy Scriptures by diluting it down toward various cultural, transient, and generational mindsets. |
