hajj guide 2019: ISRL 2020 Yusuf Durachman, Akmal Ruhana, Ida Fitri Astuti, 2021-03-22 We are delighted to introduce Proceedings of the 3rd International Symposium On Religious Life (ISRL 2020). This conference has brought academicians, researchers, developers and practitioners around the world. In collaboration with Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS) and Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), the Agency for Research, Development and Training of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) convened bi-annual symposium with the following main theme: “Religious Life, Ethics and Human Dignity in the Disruptive Era”. The 3rd ISRL highlighted the role of religion and ethics in the disruptive era that erode human values, civility, and dignity. In the processes of development and technological revolution, religion can play an essential role in providing spiritual, moral, and ethical guidance. In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, religion is perceived in two ways: on the one hand, some faith communities have been willfully negligent and become ‘super-spreaders’ of the dangerous virus by defying stay-at-home orders. Yet, on the other hand, religion has also galvanized its adherents to support economically vulnerable and marginalized communities affected by the lockdown and social restrictions. Likewise, in democratization, religion gives society the necessary dynamic thrust to maintain its vibrancy, resiliency, and sustainability. This Symposium is therefore expected to delve into the complexity of how religion, religious values and faith communities confront the contemporary challenges to uphold ethics and human dignity. We strongly believe that ISRL conference provides a good forum for all academicians, researcher, developers and practitioners to discuss all religious Life, ethics and human dignity. We also expect that the future ISRL conference will be as successful and stimulating, as indicated by the contributions presented in this volume.

hajj guide 2019: A Dua Guide for Umrah Waseem Mirza, 2019-12-10 The Umrah Guide is written as a detailed step by step guide to perform Umrah. In the first section there is an introduction on why the different rituals are performed. Why do we perform Tawaf and why do you perform Saee. For many first time goers and also experienced ones there a recurring question on what to read between the rounds of Tawaf and Saee. While there are a lot of books written about Umrah and how to perform it, there has still been a great lack of examples of Duas you can read when you perform Umrah. The goal of this book is to give a detail description on how to perform the Umrah, and for each part of the journey provide examples of Duas you can read. For example what should you read after putting on Ehram or doing Ghusl, examples of Duas for each round of the Tawaf and Saee. So if you are going for Umrah for the first time, or have perform it before, this book will definitely give a rich and extensive guide on Duas you can read.

hajj guide 2019: Narrating the Pilgrimage to Mecca Marjo Buitelaar, Richard van Leeuwen, 2023-01-16 Narrating the pilgrimage to Mecca discusses a wide variety of historical and contemporary personal accounts of the pilgrimage to Mecca, most of which presented in English for the first time. The book addresses how being situated in a specific cultural context and moment in history informs the meanings attributed to the pilgrimage experience. The various contributions reflect on how, in their stories, pilgrims draw on multiple cultural discourses and practices that shape their daily lifeworlds to convey the ways in which the pilgrimage to Mecca speaks to their senses and moves them emotionally. Together, the written memoirs and oral accounts discussed in the book offer unique insights in Islam’s rich and evolving tradition of hajj and ʿumra storytelling. Contributors Kholoud Al-Ajarma, Piotr Bachtin, Vladimir Bobrovnikov, Marjo Buitelaar, Nadia Caidi, Simon Coleman, Thomas Ecker, Zahir Janmohamed, Khadija Kadrouch-Outmany, Ammeke Kateman, Yahya Nurgat, Jihan Safar, Neda Saghaee, Leila Seurat, Richard van Leeuwen and Miguel Ángel Vázquez.

hajj guide 2019: ICIIS 2020 Asep Saepudin Jahar, Hamka Hasan, Didin Saepudin, Arif Zamhari, Yusuf Durachman, 2021-04-16 We are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the 3rd International Colloquium on Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies. It is annual event hosted and organised by the Graduate School of State Islamic University of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. It was fully 2 days event 20-21 October 2020 by Virtual (online) mode with 3 keynotes speakers: Prof. Abdel Aziz Moenadil from the University of Ibn Thufail, Maroko, Prof Wael Aly Sayyed from the University of Ain Syams, Cairo, Mesir, and Assoc. Prof. Aria Nakissa, Ph.D. from Harvard University. The proceeding consisted of 41 accepted papers from the total of 81 submission papers. The proceeding consisted of 6 main areas of Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies. They are: Islam and medicine, Islam and Science and Technology, Islam and Psychology, Islam and Education, Quran and Hadits, and Islamic Studies with other various aspects. All papers have been scrutinized by a panel of reviewers who provide critical comments and corrections, and thereafter contributed to the improvement of the quality of the papers. Research in Islamic studies and Muslim societies today also increasingly uses interdisciplinary methods and approaches. In order to produce more objective findings, the researchers looked at the need to combine several methods or approaches to an object of study, so that they had additional considerations needed. These additional considerations add a more comprehensive perspective. In this way, in turn they can come up with better findings. Interdisciplinary Islamic studies dispute that Islam is monolithic, militaristic, and primarily Middle Eastern. We strongly believe that ICIIS conference has become a good forum for all researcher, developers, practitioners, scholars, policy makers, especially post graduate students to discuss their understandings of current processes and findings, as well as to look at possibilities for setting-up new trends in SDG and Islamic Interdisciplinary Studies. We also expect that the future ICIIS conference will be as successful and stimulating, as indicated by the contributions presented in this volume.
hajj guide 2019: International Handbook of Practical Theology Birgit Weyel, Wilhelm Gräb, Emmanuel Lartey, Cas Wepener, 2022-09-06 Practical theology has outgrown its traditional pastoral paradigm. The International Handbook of Practical Theology offers insightful transcultural conceptions of religion and religious matters gathered from various cultures and traditions of faith. The first section presents ‘concepts of religion’. Chapters have to do with considerations of the conceptualizing of religion in the fields of ‘anthropology’, ‘community’, ‘family’, ‘institution’, ‘law’, ‘media’, and ‘politics’ among others. The second section is dedicated to case studies of ‘religious practices’ from the perspective of their actors. The third section presents major theoretical discourses that explore the globally significant diversity and multiplicity of religion. Altogether, sixty-one authors from different parts of the world encourage a rethinking of religious practice in an expanded, transcultural, globalized, and postcolonial world.

hajj guide 2019: Pilgrims and Sultans Suraiya Faroqhi, 2014-03-27 The pilgrimage to Mecca - the hajj - is a major aspect of the Islamic religion, yet little has been written about its history or of the conditions under which thousands of pilgrims from far flung regions of the Islamic world traveled to the heart of the Arabian peninsula. This pioneering book concentrates on the pilgrimage in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when Mecca was ruled by the Ottoman sultans. At a time when, for the majority of the faithful, the journey was long, arduous and fraught with danger, the provision of food, water, shelter and protection for pilgrims presented a major challenge to the provincial governors of the vast Ottoman Empire. Drawing on rich documentation left by Ottoman administrators and on the accounts of contemporary pilgrims, Suraiya Faroqhi here sheds new light on the trials and experiences of everyday life for those undertaking the hajj.

hajj guide 2019: Design and Spirituality Stuart Walker, 2020-12-30 Design and Spirituality examines the philosophical context of our current situation and its implications for design. It explores how modernity and our constricted notions of progress have contributed to today’s crisis of values, and argues for a re-establishment and re-affirmation of self-transcending priorities, together with an ethos of moderation and sufficiency. A wide range of topics are covered, including material culture and spiritual teachings; sustainability and the spiritual perspective; traditional and indigenous knowledge; technology and spirituality; notions of meaningful design; and how particular material things can have deeper, symbolic significance. There are also reflections on areas such as the language of design; busyness and its relationship to wisdom; design and social disparity; and traditional sacred practices. While not avoiding issues that are controversial, and sometimes hard-hitting, Design and Spirituality gets to the heart of the key issues affecting us today and presents them in a highly readable and accessible format. The author is a leading thinker in the field and he presents his arguments in a manner that invites the reader to reflect and think about where we are going, why we are going there and what really matters.   hajj guide 2019: Hajj & Umrah Fisabilillah Authenticate Ulama's Organization, 2016-03-03 INTRODUCTION Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam, brings together Muslims of all races and creed to adopt two unidentifiable white pieces of cloth in an awesome demonstration of Islam's total disregard of insignificant issues like race, social position and nationality. Annually, several million people make the pilgrimage to Makkah from every corner of the globe, providing a unique opportunity of those different nations to meet one another, making it the largest gathering in the world. It is a clear-cut act of worship, but also it is symbolic and represents the spirit's return to itsplace of origin. Hajj is an essential duty (fardh) for all Muslims, who are physically and financially able to perform it. Allah Ta'ala has prescribed certain rites that a pilgrim should uphold for his pilgrimage to be correct. The primary condition is intention (niyyah), while the others will be mentioned in their places. The meaning of the pilgrimage (Hajj meaning effort) is to leave all worldly activities aside and go forth to meet Allah Ta'ala. The purpose of Hajj is to develop consciousness of Allah Ta'ala and also spiritual upliftment. It is also an opportunity to atone sins collected throughout life. Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] had said that a person who performs Hajj properly will return as (sinless as ) a newly born baby. Due to the usual practice of Umrah being performed before the Hajj, it was deemed appropriate that this publication starts with Umrah. The first part of this book deals with the procedures of Umrah. It clearly outlines the entire procedure of how Umrah should be performed, explaining each part of Umrah individually and giving a breakdown of which actions are necessary and which one's are Sunnah and virtuous. Thereafter the rites of Hajj are described in full in the same clear distinctive manner. Starting from the explanation of the three types of Hajj and how they differ. The Hajj at a glance diagram has been specially made to assist the Hajji in simplifying the procedure further.

hajj guide 2019: Contemporary Muslim Travel Cultures C. Michael Hall, Siamak Seyfi, S. Mostafa Rasoolimanesh, 2022-07-26 This timely volume brings together various issues in Muslim consumer cultures and provides a comprehensive account of Muslim tourism and tourist behaviour. Islam is a major international religion and Muslims are a majority of the population in many countries in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. The growth of a substantial middle class, the development of Islamic consumer cultures, rising Muslim market consumption in non-Muslim majority destinations and the growing significance of intra-Muslim traffic and rising outbound tourism expenditure in emerging Muslim markets have all contributed to substantial interest in Muslim tourism. However, travel by Muslims is about far more than the Hajj and Umrah, as important as they are as acts of devotion. Instead, although often portrayed in the West as a monolithic religion, Muslim travel and leisure behaviour is very diverse, with different traditions and cultures leading to a range of expressions of tourism-related consumption culture and practices. Drawing on a range of empirical studies undertaken in different social and economic contexts and countries, this book provides a well-balanced portrayal of the Muslim tourism experience and practices. This book makes a substantial contribution to an improved understanding of Muslim travel culture and will be required reading for anyone interested in this fast-growing market.

hajj guide 2019: Threading My Prayer Rug Sabeeha Rehman, 2016-06-14 SHORTLISTED FOR THE WILLIAM SAROYAN INTERNATIONAL PRIZE FOR WRITING. ONE OF BOOKLIST'S TOP TEN RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY BOOKS. ONE OF BOOKLIST'S TOP TEN DIVERSE NONFICTION BOOKS. Honorable Mention in the San Francisco Book Festival Awards, Spiritual Category A 2019 United Methodist Women Reading Program Selection This enthralling story of the making of an American is a timely meditation on being Muslim in America today. Threading My Prayer Rug is a richly textured reflection. It is also the luminous story of many journeys: from Pakistan to the United States in an arranged marriage that becomes a love match lasting forty-five years; from secular Muslim in an Islamic society to devout Muslim in a society ignorant of Islam, and from liberal to conservative to American Muslim; from bride to mother; and from an immigrant intending to stay two years to an American citizen, business executive, grandmother, and tireless advocate for interfaith understanding. Beginning with a sweetly funny, moving account of her arranged marriage, the author undercuts stereotypes and offers the refreshing view of an American life through Muslim eyes. Sabeeha was doing interfaith work for Imam Feisal A. Rauf, the driving force behind the Muslim community center near Ground Zero, when the backlash began. She recounts what that experience revealed about American society and in a new preface discusses Islam in America in the time of Trump.

hajj guide 2019: The Divine Bureaucracy and Disenchantment of Social Life Maznah Mohamad, 2020-03-02 This book traces the expansion of Islamisation within a modern and plural state such as Malaysia. It elaborates on how elements of theology, sacred space, resources, and their interactivity with secular instruments such as legislative, electoral, and new social technological platforms are all instrumentally employed to consolidate a divine bureaucracy. The book makes the point that religious social movements and political parties are only few of the important agents of Islamisation in society. The other is the modern and secular state structure itself. Weber’s legal rational bureaucracy or Hegel’s ethical bureaucracy predominantly characterises a modern feature of governmentality. In this instance an Islamic bureaucracy is advantageously situated not only within an ambit of modernity and therefore legality, but divinity and therefore sacrality as well. This positioning gives religious state agents more salience than any other form of bureaucracy leading to their unquestioned authority in the current contexts of societies with Muslim majority rule. One of the requisites of this condition is the homogenisation of Islam followed by ring-fencing of its constituents. The latter can involve contestations with women, other genders, ‘secular’ Muslims, non-Muslims as well as dissenting Muslims with their differing truthful ‘Islams’.

hajj guide 2019: Legacies of Colonialism in Museum Collections Mirjam Shatanawi, 2024-12-23 This groundbreaking book tells the untold story of Indonesian Islam in museums. Often overshadowed by Hindu-Buddhist art, Indonesian Islamic heritage rarely receives the attention it deserves in museum collections and exhibitions. This book unravels the historical silences rooted in Dutch colonial rule that have marginalized Indonesian Islamic material culture. Delving into the colonial archives, it traces the journey of Indonesian objects in Dutch museums, exploring their original meanings and their re-appropriation during instances of collecting, classification, interpretation and public display. Through this lens, the book addresses the enduring impacts of colonialism and offers pathways for the decolonization of museums today.
