graderesults: Data Science in Applications Gintautas Dzemyda, Jolita Bernatavičienė, Janusz Kacprzyk, 2023-03-09 This book provides an overview of a wide range of relevant applications and reveals how to solve them. Many of the latest applications in finance, technology, education, medicine and other important and relevant fields are data-driven. The volumes of data are enormous. Specific methods need to be developed or adapted to solve a particular problem. It illustrates data science in applications. These applications have in common the discovery of knowledge in data and the use of this knowledge to make real decisions. The set of examples presented serves as a recipe book for their direct application to similar problems or as a guide for the development of new, more sophisticated approaches. The intended readership is data scientists looking for appropriate solutions to their problems. In addition, the examples provided serves as material for lectures at universities.

This forum brought together a diverse group of TIMSS researchers, state and local policymakers, teachers, school administrators, mathematics and science specialists, business representatives, university educators, and federal officials. Participants discussed what TIMSS means for systemic education reform and identified several future directions for policy decisions and policy research. This policy brief synthesizes the presentations and discussions that occurred during the TIMSS Policy Forum and draws from the TIMSS reports of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and from papers prepared by researchers involved in TIMSS.   graderesults: Dietary Behavior and Physical Activity in Children and Adolescents Antje Hebestreit, Leonie-Helen Bogl, 2019-12-05 In recent years, diet- and lifestyle-related disorders have become a major health threat in Europe and worldwide. The contributions in this monograph include 2 review articles and 19 original contributions from several countries that provide new information on the existing research elucidating important aspects of children’s and adolescents’ nutrition and lifestyle behavior. The data included in this Special Issue are from large epidemiological studies, including several multicenter and multinational studies, as well as datasets from surveillance initiatives. The topics of interest of this Special Issue include the co-occurrence of multiple health behaviors in children, the role of parenting and early feeding practices, dairy consumption in childhood, validity of dietary intake data, dietary supplement use in children, as well as socioeconomic disparities and eating culture. The diverse articles in this Special Issue highlight the complexity and extent to which nutrition and physical activity behaviors may influence different health aspects of children and adolescents. As seen by the various findings and recommendations, not only is more work in this area required but the translation of this work to practice and policy is imperative if we are to address the challenges impacting the nutrition, physical activity, and health of young populations.

graderesults: Statistics for Process Control Engineers Myke King, 2017-08-10 The first statistics guide focussing on practical application to process control design and maintenance Statistics for Process Control Engineers is the only guide to statistics written by and for process control professionals. It takes a wholly practical approach to the subject. Statistics are applied throughout the life of a process control scheme – from assessing its economic benefit, designing inferential properties, identifying dynamic models, monitoring performance and diagnosing faults. This book addresses all of these areas and more. The book begins with an overview of various statistical applications in the field of process control, followed by discussions of data characteristics, probability functions, data presentation, sample size, significance testing and commonly used mathematical functions. It then shows how to select and fit a distribution to data, before moving on to the application of regression analysis and data reconciliation. The book is extensively illustrated throughout with line drawings, tables and equations, and features numerous worked examples. In addition, two appendices include the data used in the examples and an exhaustive catalogue of statistical distributions. The data and a simple-to-use software tool are available for download. The reader can thus reproduce all of the examples and then extend the same statistical techniques to real problems. Takes a back-to-basics approach with a focus on techniques that have immediate, practical, problem-solving applications for practicing engineers, as well as engineering students Shows how to avoid the many common errors made by the industry in applying statistics to process control Describes not only the well-known statistical distributions but also demonstrates the advantages of applying the large number that are less well-known Inspires engineers to identify new applications of statistical techniques to the design and support of control schemes Provides a deeper understanding of services and products which control engineers are often tasked with assessing This book is a valuable professional resource for engineers working in the global process industry and engineering companies, as well as students of engineering. It will be of great interest to those in the oil and gas, chemical, pulp and paper, water purification, pharmaceuticals and power generation industries, as well as for design engineers, instrument engineers and process technical support.
