E. Newstead, visiting the United States for the first time since the 1960s. Moduli spaces of vector bundles were then in their infancy, but are now, as demonstrated by this volume, a powerful tool in symplectic geometry, number theory, mathematical physics, and algebraic geometry. In fact, the impetus for this volume was to offer a sample of the vital convergence of techniques and fundamental progress, taking place in moduli spaces at the outset of the twenty-first century. This volume contains contributions by J. E. Andersen and N. L. Gammelgaard (Hitchin's projectively flat connection and Toeplitz operators), M. Aprodu and G. Farkas (moduli spaces), D. Arcara and A. Bertram (stability in higher dimension), L. Jeffrey (intersection cohomology), J. Kamnitzer (Langlands program), M. Lieblich (arithmetic aspects), P. E. Newstead (coherent systems), G. Pareschi and M. Popa (linear series on Abelian varieties), and M. Teixidor i Bigas (bundles over reducible curves). These articles do require a working knowledge of algebraic geometry, symplectic geometry and functional analysis, but should appeal to practitioners in a diversity of fields.   gr1 workshop: Aeromedical Aspects of Aircrew Training North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Research and Technology Organization. Human Factors and Medicine Panel. Workshop, 1999 A RTO Human Factors and Medicine Panel Workshop held in San Diego, California, in October 1998 brought together Aeromedical Trainers to discuss current Aeromedical Training Programmes and to present new approaches to this training. Various approaches to Aeromedical Training were also discussed and STANAG 3114 Aeromedical Training of Flight Personnel was reviewed. Presentations included: categories of training, subjects taught, frequency of training, duration of courses, period of validity and altitude chamber profiles utilized. Most NATO countries were present and provided overviews of their programmes, as did representatives from Poland and the Czech Republic. Presentations also included new approaches to Aeromedical Training including: Simulator Based Physiology Training (SYMPHYS), Simulator Based Disorientation Training and In-Flight Disorientation Training. The Workshop recommended changes to STANAG 3114 including, but not limited to: removal of the split between Rotary and Fixed-wing aircraft training requirements, addition of the requirement for instruction on aeromedical aspects of new Life Support Equipment and addition of the requirement for a practical Spatial Disorientation experience during refresher training. Also recommended was the establishment of a Working Group to study the variation between countries in rates of Decompression Illness from altitude chamber exposure. It was also recommended that NATO validate the need for a new STANAG on Night Vision Training.

The workshop was attended by 44 participants from all over the world: partici pants came from Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, The Netherlands, South Africa, Switzerland, Ukraine and the USA. The atmosphere at the workshop was very warm and friendly. There where 21 plenary lectures, and each lecture was followed by a lively discussion.   gr1 workshop: Numerical Simulation of Oscillatory Convection in Low-Pr Fluids Bernard Roux, 2013-03-08 For the last ten years, there has been an ever-increasing awareness that fluid motion and transport processes influenced by buoyancy are of interest in many fields of science and technology. In particular, a lot of research has been devoted to the oscillatory behaviour of metallic melts (low-Pr fluids) due to the very crucial impact of such flow oscillations on the quality of growing crystals, semi-conductors or metallic alloys, for advanced technology applications. Test cases on the 2D oscillatory convection in differentially heated cavities containing low-Pr fluids have been defined by the organizing committee, and proposed to the community in 1987. The GAMM-Worshop was attended by 55 scientists from 12 countries, in Oct. 1988 in Marseille (France). Twenty-eight groups contributed to the mandatory cases coming from France (12), other European countries (7) and other countries: USA, Japan and Australia (9). Several groups also presented solutions of various related problems such as accurate determination of the threshold for the onset of oscillations, thermocapillary effect in open cavities, and 3D simulations. Period doubling, quasi- periodic behaviour, reverse transition and hysteresis loops have been reported for high Grashof numbers in closed cavities. The workshop was also open to complementary contributions (5), from experiments and theory (stability and bifurcation analysis). The book contains details about the various methods employed and the specific results obtained by each contributor.

The workshops are unusual in that they combine theoretical aspects with practice and applications. The volume is organized into sections on: - Graph algorithms and complexity, - VLSI layout, - Multiprocessor systems and concurrency, - Computational geometry, - Graphs, languages and databases, - Graph grammars. The volume contains revised versions of nearly all the papers presented at the workshop. Several papers take the form of preliminary reports on ongoing research.
