general medicine mcqs: Multiple Choice Questions and Quick Review of Surgery Ahmed ElBishry, Amr Mohsen, 2018 The goals of our book are to prepare students for final examinations and to prime them and young surgeons to face the real world of surgical practice. To achieve these goals, we have been listening to feedback from students and colleagues whose advice has been invaluable. Accordingly, in this fourth edition, we have made changes in the content as well as the format. We have been warned that many eager students move to the provided adjacent answer before allowing time to solve a question on their own. The advice was to move answers to the end of each chapter. We hope this change will generate, in students, enough sense of excitement and curiosity to motivate them to think, analyze and choose the most appropriate diagnosis and management. We have made more extensive changes in the content. The number of plain MCQs has risen from 678 to 753. Two new section of clinical photographs and clinical imaging-based questions have added further 117 MCQs. Stress has been laid on more case scenario questions, with the aim of consolidating knowledge obtained from textbooks and adapting it for use under common surgical situations. We still encourage students to use this book for evaluation of their grasp of the science of surgery and for the purpose of a quick review before examinations. We hope it will be of value in this regard and that it will be as enjoyable and thought stimulating for the reader as it has been for us in the process of composing. |

general medicine mcqs: MCQs in Medicine Debra King, 2012-12-06 Academic geriatnclans are always looking for an improved objective, quantifiable measure of biological ageing in humans to replace that unphysiological and arbitrary scale 'years survived'. The MCQ may be the nearest we have come yet to achieving this Holy Grail. An individual's facility with the setting and answering of MCQs separates the medical genera tions more surely than years. I am only grateful I was educated in a less rigorous but perhaps more 'gentlemanly' era. If one appeared before an examiner neatly dressed with clean finger nails and the examination scripts were literate essays written in fountain pen then you were in - or so it seemed. For the past 20 years we have been evolving towards much more objective and rigorous assessment of knowledge and understanding of medicine of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. This process has been exemplified by the evolution of what is now the seemingly ubiquitous MCQ. When initially presented as objective and quantifiable measures of clinical knowledge MCQs were the subject of scorn - how could they assess the art of medicine - the grey areas of clinical decision making? However they very rapidly overcame this antediluvian scepticism and I believe they have had an effect well beyond the limited area of competence measurement. They have induced or at the very least contributed to a shift towards a more rigorous, dare one say more scientific, approach to clinical medicine. |
