dr subhash kashyap: Indian Constitution Subhash C. Kashyap, 2010 The Constitution of India has been India's greatest achievement since Independence. The country can take legitimate pride in the fact that the Constitution has survived all the pressures, stresses and strains inflicted on the body politic by malevolent forces, both internal and external. It has emerged stronger from the many crises, conflicts and controversies. In fact, the Constitution has been in the making all through the last sixty years. This book brings together for the first time a selection from the many contemporaneous notes and opinions on crucial issues involving interpretation of key concepts and provisions of the Constitution. These were written in response to the controversies raised or difficult conflict situations then prevailing. The author was in some ways privy to some of the conflicts and had something to do with their resolution within the constitutional framework. The views retain their relevance and appeal. This book would be useful for all those who are interested in understanding the mechanisms of the Constitution and its functioning. SUBHASH C KASHYAP is a widely acknowledged and well-known constitutional expert. He is also a Supreme Court advocate; consultant in constitutional law, political management and parliamentary affairs; Honorary Research Professor at the Centre for Policy Research; President, Citizenship Development Society and Rashtriya Jagriti Sansthan; Editor, South Asia Politics (monthly); Chairman, Academy of Grassroots Studies and Research; and is connected with several Indian and foreign institutions, universities etc. Earlier, Dr Kashyap served as Secretary-General, Lok Sabha (Parliament of India); Member, National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution and Chairman of its Drafting and Editorial Committee; Honorary Constitutional Adviser to Government of India on PRI Laws; Director, Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies; Head, CIDP (Inter-Parliamentary Union), Geneva; Member, Board of Directors of International IDEA (Stockholm); Member, Governing Council, Indian Council of Social Science Research; Chairman/Member of several high-level committees in constitutional, parliamentary and educational fields including the Committee for Selection of the Most Outstanding Parliamentarians, Search Committees for Selection of Vice-Chancellors etc.; US Congressional fellow (Washington DC); Fellow of the Academy of American and International Law (Dallas), Nehru Fellow, UNDP Fellow etc. |

dr subhash kashyap: Hinduism - Ritual, Reason and Beyond Ashok Mishra, 2019-08-03 The book is journey through 5000 years of evolution of Hinduism, and is outcome of seven years of study to understand the roots of Hinduism. Tracing the genesis of Hinduism to pre-Indus Valley period, the book explains Hindu, Hinduism and Sanatana Dharma, before it takes one through Hinduism’s oldest scriptures - the four Vedas, the four components of each Veda, and what they contain. How all original translations of Vedic texts were done by Western Sanskrit scholars, and why their works have left scope for doubt about the fidelity of translations. The yajnas (yagya) like Ashvamedha, Rajsooya, Vajpeya, etc., about which we only hear on TV serials and talk shows, have been demystified. The reader will be taken aback reading the sheer size and scale of Soma yajna, described step by step, in great detail. Hinduism’s journey to the Age of Reason, the Upanishads, its encounter with Buddhism, and its transformation into idol worshipping society with many gods and a multitude of stories about its millions of gods is lucidly explained. Puranas, what they contain and what was the reason they were created, has been described and explained next. Hinduism's journey to its modern form - idol worship, the modern puja, detailed description of puja and Sanskaras like Vivaha, their detailed description, the meaning of each action and how they are conducted, the gift to the priest, types of idols, their consecration, all are explained to help a reader understand the why and the how of what we do as a Hindu. The book concludes with a discussion of - Do mantras have power? & Do rituals have meaning? |
dr subhash kashyap: Why India Needs the Presidential System Bhanu Dhamija, 2015-10-10 At one time or another, Dr Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, M.A. Jinnah, Sardar Patel and many other top leaders strongly opposed India's adoption of the parliamentary system. History has proven them right. Given its diversity, size, and communal and community divisions, the country needed a truly federal setup - not the centralized unitary control that the parliamentary system offers. Why India Needs the Presidential System tells the dramatic story of how India's current system of government evolved, how it is at the root of the problems India faces. The result of years of meticulous research, this book makes a passionate plea for a radical rethink of India's future as a nation. Why India Needs the Presidential System is not just an expose of what is wrong, but a serious effort at offering a possible solution. |

dr subhash kashyap: Scientific Basis for Ayurvedic Therapies Lakshmi C. Mishra, 2003-09-29 Arguably the oldest form of health care, Ayurveda is often referred to as the Mother of All Healing. Although there has been considerable scientific research done in this area during the last 50 years, the results of that research have not been adequately disseminated. Meeting the need for an authoritative, evidence-based reference, Scientific Basis for Ayurvedic Therapies is the first book to analyze and synthesize current research supporting Ayurvedic medicine. This book reviews the latest scientific information, evaluates the research data, and presents it in an easy to use format. The editor has carefully selected topics based on the availability of scientific studies and the prevalence of a disease. With contributions from experts in their respective fields, topics include Ayurvedic disease management, panchkarma, Ayurvedic bhasmas, the current status of Ayurveda in India, clinical research design, and evaluation of typical clinical trials of certain diseases, to name just a few. While there are many books devoted to Ayurveda, very few have any in-depth basis in scientific studies. This book provides a critical evaluation of literature, clinical trials, and biochemical and pharmacological studies on major Ayurvedic therapies that demonstrates how they are supported by scientific data. Providing a natural bridge from Ayurveda to Western medicine, Scientific Basis for Ayurvedic Therapies facilitates the integration of these therapies by health care providers. |

dr subhash kashyap: Shivaji Ranjit Desai, 2017-12-15 'The epic text of Ranjit Desai's Shriman Yogi finds new voice in Vikrant Pande's nuanced translation, an immersive narrative of the foundations of the Maratha empire and the saga of its charismatic founder.' - Namita Gokhale. Young Shivaji reaches Pune, a dying fort city, with his mother Jijabai and lights the first lamp within its ruins. While his father Shahaji Bhosle is away on deputation by the Adil Shah sultanate after having failed in a revolt against it, Shivaji learns how an empire is built from the ground up. Thus begins the life of the Great Maratha. What awaits Shivaji is nothing short of the vast scroll of history, and it takes him from Surat to Thanjavur and all the way to Aurangzeb's durbar in Agra. He dreams of freeing his land from the clutches of Mughal rule, and though he suffers many defeats and personal losses along the way he never gives up his vision of Hindavi Swaraj. Amidst political intrigue and a chain of skirmishes, Shivaji becomes a leader, a warrior and a tactician par excellence, driven by immense pride and love for his motherland. |

dr subhash kashyap: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Ravi Ranjan & M.K. Singh, 2021-08-14 Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel This biography of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is a comprehensive and vivid narration of his unique contribution to Mahatma Gandhi's struggle for India's freedom (1920-47). Without his support, Mahatma Gandhi admitted, his satyagrahas wouldn't have had the same success. It was he who built the party machine through the imposition of strict discipline and by giving it a mass base, and as party boss supervised and directed the functioning of the Congress ministries post-1937 provincial elections. Patel's post-1945 role concerned India's freedom, and also marked the end of his being Gandhi's blind follower. Disillusioned with his own party in the failure of the Cabinet mission parleys, he negotiated directly with Cripps and helped the Congress form the Interim government He wanted to keep Jinnah out in the cold and suffer in his isolation. The book discusses his failure, rather than of the party, with Wavell's maneuvering in getting the Muslim League into the Cabinet as an equal with the congress. With that Jinnah conducted his fight from within. Realizing that united India had become an impossibility and the country faced chaos and total disintegration, Patel rose above all considerations to save and consolidate what would be left of India after Partition. This he achieved through administrative unity by forming the IAS on an all-India basis, and the country's unity through the integration of the Princely States. This book returns to the earlier two decades to show the unity of Patel's thinking and actions. The history of the Gandhian era cannot be complete and properly understood unless Patel is read and appreciated for what he did and achieved for India. dr subhash kashyap: Indian Democracy's Paradoxes Prahalad Rao, 2024-03-06 We are dealing with a new political form of society whose specificity comes from the articulation between two different traditions. On one side we have the liberal tradition constituted by the rule of law, the defence of human rights and the respect of individual liberty; on the other the democratic tradition whose main ideas are those of equa identity between governing and governed and popular sovereignty. There is no necessary relation between those two distinct traditions but only a contingent historical articulation....Let's not forget that, while we tend today to take the link between liberalism and democracy for granted, their union, far from being a smooth process, was the result of bitter struggles. — Mouffe, The Democratic Paradox. The Unity in Diversity is based on multi wheel and not on mono wheel system. Truth has one face while the untruth has many faces. Truth does not seek for any excuse while the untruth always searches for an excuse. Truth cannot be divided; it is the same for one and all. There has been a growing paradoxical environment in the country not genuinely but due to lack of reasoning and reconciliation which are the offshoots of ego, misunderstanding and confrontation. Today, paradoxes in our democracy are multiplying manifold. Time, we need to take them seriously, search for solutions. These paradoxes include Diversity & Division, Fundamental Duties, Governance and Citizens Moral Values and Human Development. I have analysed them in depth and endeavoured to show their patenting effects in the democratic functioning driving towards haywire and disorderliness. This is setting a negative concept for the future generations, the responsibility for that rests on the present generation. |

dr subhash kashyap: Ballots and Breakups Sunita Aron, 2019-06-24 Winning elections is not everything, what is crucial for the good health of a robust democracy is forming a government. From strategically devised pre-poll alliances to hastily stitched together post-poll associations, noted journalist Sunita Aron has travelled the length and breadth of the country, painstakingly documenting the drama and dharma of coalition politics in India. The result of her exhaustive research and insightful analysis, Ballots and Breakups is a cracker of a read. As Indian voters deliver fractured verdicts, political parties resort to constructing fragile coalitions by hook or by crook. The hapless casualties of this relentless quest for power are the Indian voters and this book is for them, as the writer eloquently exhorts for the need of common guidelines on the formation of a government in the case of a hung house. A gripping take on coalition politics in India, Aron charts a riveting tale of modern Indian politics that has all the masala of a Bollywood potboiler, but the ending, the writer asserts, has to be happy like that of any Hindi film, 'stable governments and a prosperous society even in a hung house!' |
dr subhash kashyap: Rediscovery of Landraces as a Resource for the Future Oscar Grillo, 2018-09-12 In recent years, all over the world, the attention paid to local and traditional productions is growing, especially in the agro-food sector. Hence, for economic, social, historical, and nutritional reasons, this trend has led to the rediscovery and reuse of landraces of many different crops, responding to requests for more and more demanding market. This volume collects examples of local crops and old landraces of different areas of the planet that testify the extreme importance of the relation existing among a land, the local productions, the historical traditions, the conservation of biodiversity, the health benefits, the environmental impact and the local economies, also including the significance to dedicate resources to scientific researches in local crops. |
