dk wheeler: Curriculum Development and Design Murray Print, 2020-08-06 This book has been written to provide a current, practical, Australian-based approach to designing and developing curriculum. The demands of schools and educational systems today are such that teachers with practical curriculum skills are highly valued and this book provides a vital source for teachers who wish to build their skills in the field of curriculum design and development. The book addresses the needs of curriculum developers by examining the nature of the curriculum process and how it can be applied in schools. A particular strength is the way in which the chapters are structured around a model of curriculum development. As the model unfolds the reader is familiarised with the various elements of curriculum including situational analysis, intent, content, learning activities and evaluation. Teachers will appreciate the value of understanding these elements and in so doing will acquire valuable skills of curriculum design and development. A feature of this book is that it addresses the issues of curriculum implementation and curriculum change. To devise a curriculum document in these times is tough enough. Those who wish to see their curricula succeed must be involved with implementing that curriculum and the curriculum change that results. This important new book is particularly appropriate to classroom teachers, system developers and student teachers studying curriculum. |

dk wheeler: Practical Curriculum Study Douglas Barnes, 2018-10-03 Originally published in 1982. This book presents a view of how the curriculum should be studied and a model for the teaching of curriculum theory. It looks at each issue clearly and briefly, and without dogmatism, and offers a wide range of practical tasks. These tasks require readers to reflect upon and analyse their preconceptions about teaching; to suggest ways of planning work for their pupils and trying it out; to analyse and evaluate textbooks and worksheets; to study other teachers in action; and to consider alternative ways of organising the curriculum. The ordering is designed to encourage teachers to form systematic strategies for thinking about the curriculum, and to lead to the discussion of matters of principle as a basis for practical choices. |
dk wheeler: New Developments in High Temperature Superconductivity J. Klamut, B.W. Veal, B.M. Dabrowski, P.W. Klamut, M. Kazimierski, 2000-03-15 This volume contains the proceedings of The Second Polish-US Conf- ence on High Temperature Superconductivity which was held August 18-21, 1998 in Karpacz, Poland. The conference followed The First Polish-US C- ference on High Temperature Superconductivity organized in 1995, proce- ings of which were published by Springer-Verlag in 1996 (Recent Devel- ments in High Temperature Superconductivity, Lecture Notes in Physics 475). High Temperature Superconductivity (HTSC) in complex copper oxides has become a household name after twelve years of intense research following its discovery in 1986 by J. G. Bednorz and K. A. Miiller. Because of the rapid growth of the HTSC field, there is a need for periodic summary and conden- tion both for scientists working in the field and, especially, for young resear- ers entering the field of oxide materials. Following the First Conference, it was recognized that an extended format of lectures perfectly satisfied that need, providing adequate time for experts from the international community to fully introduce and develop complex ideas. Thus, the format of the Second Conference brought together by cooperating scientists from the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research of the Polish Academy of Science at Wroctaw, Northern Illinois University, and Argonne National Laboratory remained mostly unchanged. Again, we were delighted to receive enthusiastic responses from distinguished US and Polish scientists who were invited to p- ticipate. |
dk wheeler: The School Curriculum W. Kenneth Richmond, 2018-10-03 Originally published in 1971. All education systems tend to be traditional and conservative. In times of rapid social change, the work of the schools becomes increasingly outdated by events. Continuous adaptation of the curriculum (which includes content, method and organization) can no longer be left to haphazard, piecemeal innovations-it must be managed. In a comparative study of the strategies adopted to date in the U.S.A., England, Scotland and France, this book points out that-although considerable reforms have been effected in these countries during the past ten to fifteen years-no adequate curriculum theory has yet been developed. The author also turns his attention to the phenomenon which he considered symptomatic of inherent failures in the education system: the drop-outs and hippies He concludes that notions about 'learning' must be revised and rather than a place in which formal instruction is given, the school of the future should be conceived as a resources-for-learning centre. |

dk wheeler: The Literature of Education W. Kenneth Richmond, 2019-01-15 Original blurb: The volume of writing on educational topics has increased so prodigiously in recent years that the student is likely to lose himself in a sea of print. This may lead him to opt for the first book that comes to hand, or waste time rifling through half a dozen when a thorough grasp of one key text is all that is needed. Reading lists commonly look impressive, not to say daunting. In fact, the multifarious titles conceal an enormous amount of duplication, an endless raking over of other people’s research findings. ‘It is a safe bet’, writes W. Kenneth Richmond, ‘that less than 5 percent of the contents of any new book on education will be in any way original’. This critical bibliography, originally published in 1972, is concerned with the noteworthy books and major official reports that had appeared in the English language during the twenty-five years prior to publication. In his introduction and in the commentaries prefacing each section the author explains the background to the genuinely new departures of the period and describes successive changes in the climate of educational opinion. |

dk wheeler: Perspectives in Curriculum Studies A Zama, N. Endeley, 2021-08-19 Perspectives in Curriculum Studies by Margaret Nalova Endeley and Martha Ashuntantang Zama is a comprehensive textbook for graduate students of Curriculum Studies and Instruction, and a guide for education practitioners wherein they articulate contemporary curriculum concepts, principles and applications in the field. With illustrations from informed African perspectives, the authors situate curriculum theory and practice in local contexts so that African scholars, educators, and others may be equipped with knowledge and skills to develop and maintain appropriate and relevant curricula for quality education. Framed in sixteen chapters, grouped in five parts, the text begins with the exposition of basic terminology, curriculum theory and foundations of the curriculum before delving profoundly into the curriculum development process. The latter portion gives the reader the opportunity to explore, analyse and evaluate different curriculum planning approaches and models, curriculum design dimensions and patterns, and procedures for the development of syllabuses, textbooks, and other curriculum materials. Also, Curriculum implementation tasks as well as strategies for evaluation of programs and courses are presented and discussed. Since curriculum and instruction are highly intertwined notions, instructional design is elaborately treated in two chapters bringing out its theoretical underpinnings and procedures. The book closes with global perspectives of curriculum development in practice. The goal here is to provide insights into trends, issues, and challenges not only in curriculum development but also in the curriculum field, which should generate action towards the improvement of curriculum practice and spur the search for new knowledge. |

dk wheeler: The Manpower Problem in Kuwait Shamlan Y. Alessa, 2017-08-17 The period since the Second World War saw a spectacular transformation of the Kuwaiti economy, making it one of the world’s major oil states with one of the highest per capita incomes. This rapid transformation, however, has brought with it attendant problems. This book, first published in 1981, examines the critical issue of the Kuwaiti labour force: some three-quarters of it is expatriate labour, and the Kuwaiti portion suffers from a high illiteracy rate. Dr Alessa isolates the various factors responsible for Kuwait’s manpower problems, and puts forward a number of original solutions. |

dk wheeler: Creative Teaching S. Howard Nicholls, Audrey Nicholls, 2017-11-01 In their highly successful practical guide, Developing a Curriculum, Howard and Audrey Nicholls provided a basic guide to curriculum planning for both practising and prospective teachers. In this second volume, originally published in 1975, some of the ideas outlined there at an elementary level are developed, with the aim of encouraging and guiding the development of ‘custom built’ curricula. Grasping the fundamental ideas and concepts of curriculum development is one problem for teachers, translating them into practice is another, and this book will go a long way to solving both problems. The development of justifiable and purposeful curricula for the particular pupils he is teaching is a primary task for any teacher, as is the modification of these curricula as circumstances and ideas change and the teacher forms his assessment of pupils’ needs and progress. The theoretical background to be taken into account when arriving at general curricular decisions is considered throughout, and groups, aids, organisation, records and assessment are all treated as essential items for the curriculum planner. Nor is the final problem, which the theorists often neglect, forgotten, namely that of implementing modifications or innovations once the curriculum has been created. |
