Evensen, 2005-12 Voyage for Continuity: A Search for the Altruistic Gene and its Rationale Contents: Introduction: Corporate Practices vs. Creativity and Accountability; 1. A divided Democracy and a much needed Bridging-Process; 2. Corporatism vs. Pluralism; 3. The Role-divided Value Chain and Independent Surveillance Authorities; 4. Taking a Stance for Ethics & Enterprise; 5. UN/UNDP and Intl. Professional Forums must contribute to vital Dialogue; 6. A New Nobel Prize for Urban Design and Sustainable Environments; 7. The Development Syndromes and the Pivotal Catalysts; Summing Up: Facing Greed driven by a Selfish Gene? Introduction: Corporate Self-Interest & greedy Stewardship vs. Creativity and Accountability Today we see Imbalances between the Corporate World and the Entrepreneurship of Atomists, who risk their own Hide and hope for Predictability decided by others than themselves. Leaderships of Corporate Powerhouses, Bureaucracy, Diplomats and Party Politics side with each other to achieve a controllable ¡§Elite Circulation¡ ̈. In that Way Neo-Feudality can reign in the so-called ¡§Global Democracy¡ ̈ by means of a Neo-Colonialism based on Intl. Organizations & Regulations, skewed by privileged Diplomats and Executives in charge of Intl. and Regional Conferences, Networks & Systems, the Framework of Patents, Licenses, Intl. Trade and Negotiations. In a growing Number of Cases the Corporate Leaderships have misused their Positions for their own Short-Term Benefit ¡V and they get away with their Mixing of the Roles as long as they have acted within the existing legal framework. Therefore Abuses by Corporations send negative, condescending Signals to Billions of Minds, who observe in Awe and Impotence the Deals of the Omni-potent. Fragmentation and Disintegration undermine Democracy. The Virtues of Ideals and a Long-Term Perspective are at Stake. Do we share a Vision for a future, improved Democracy - or are we ¡§programmed, selfish Genes¡ ̈ fighting for Short-Term Gains and a personal Survival? Democracy can only be improved by Ethics and Enterprise - and vice versa. Ethics and Enterprise are stimulated by Freedom of International Research & Learning, Access to Role-divided Business Services, Global Harmonization and Pluralism in Intl. Organizations as well as in Regions, Nations and local Communities. 1. A divided Democracy A dividing Rift between the Corporate Leadership and their Followers, on the one Hand, and the Enterprisers, their Key People and entrepreneurial Supporters, on the other Hand, seems to widen in the Nations influenced by the ¡§Global Democracy¡ ̈, sponsored by UNDP, WTO, EU, ASEAN, NAFTA, etc. Favouring the Corporations has Impacts on Party Politics and Lobbyism. There are certain lucrative Links and fast Lanes, which are unknown to the Followers of a Party. Some commit to serve Special Interests - slowly but surely. There may be Consequences for those involved, if the Scam is exposed. If so a Scapegoat will be sacrificed, small adjustments made, and soon the Central Players are back in Business. The Costs of ¡§Bad Decisions¡ ̈ caused by ¡§Horse Trading¡ ̈, rather than fit and proper Decision Making are considerable. Transparency and Probes can expose King-Makers and the Gatekeepers. Both Changes and Repairs to the Decision Making Process can take Place effectively. Institutional Development in the hands of King-Makers, Gatekeepers and their Camaraderie has direct- and indirect effects on Transaction Costs and Enterprise. Pro-active Restructuring is not likely. Cf. www.coase.org The End Result may be a divided Democracy, which can be seen in several recent Elections worldwide. The self-interested Corporations and their Leaderships joining Ranks with media-driven Politicians and Lobbyists must be exposed. Likewise the Self-Interest of Politicians with very narrow Platforms. All Corporations must start to deliver a true Value Proposition to their most important Stakeholder ¡V namel

continuity binder air force: Testing the Aerospace Expeditionary Force Concept William L. Dowdy, 2000 During the period 1995-97, the deployment of four Aerospace Expeditionary Forces (AEFs) to Bahrain, Jordan, and Qatar (x2) served as useful tests of the AEF concept first broached in its latter-day incarnation soon after Operation Vigilant Warrior in the Persian Gulf in 1994. Responding to a manifest need to be able to rapidly deploy aerospace power to deter or to halt aggression against U.S. interests abroad, USAF leadership has designed and implemented a new organizing concept for service culture and operations - the Expeditionary Aerospace Force (EAF). The deployments of AEFs I - IV to the Middle East provided experience, data, and lessons learned that have since been incorporated into the EAF design. Based on available unclassified information, this study first comparatively considers the strengths and weaknesses of the aerospace expeditionary force concept evinced in the four deployments of 1995-97. Then, factoring in additional accounts of participants and the views of other writers, the author mines the accumulated evidence for analytical insights around six issue categories: planning, diplomatic preparation, force protection, logistics, command and control, and training and education. The study concludes that force protection and logistics are the most vexing challenges confronting architects and implementers of the EAF concept. Force protection may indeed prove to be too hard and too expensive in some cases.
continuity binder air force: To Serve the President Bradley H. Patterson, 2009-12-23 Nobody knows more about the duties, the difficulties, and the strategies of staffing and working in the White House than Brad Patterson. In To Serve the President, Patterson combines insider access, decades of Washington experience, and an inimitable style to open a window onto closely guarded Oval Office turf. The fascinating and entertaining result is the most complete look ever at the White House and the people that make it work. Patterson describes what he considers to be the whole White House staff, a larger and more inclusive picture than the one painted by most analysts. In addition to nearly one hundred policy offices, he draws the curtain back from less visible components such as the Executive Residence staff, Air Force One and Marine One, the First Lady's staff, Camp David, and many others—135 separate offices in all, pulling together under often stressful and intense conditions. This authoritative and readable account lays out the organizational structure of the full White House and fills it out the outline with details both large and small. Who are these people? What exactly do they do? And what role do they play in running the nation? Another exciting feature of To Serve the President is Patterson's revelation of the total size and total cost of the contemporary White House—information that simply is not available anywhere else. This is not a kiss-and-tell tale or an incendiary exposé. Brad Patterson is an accomplished public administrator with an intimate knowledge of how the White House really works, and he brings to this book a refreshingly positive view of government and public service not currently in vogue. The U.S. government is not a monolith, or a machine, or a shadowy cabal; above all, it is people, human beings doing the best they can, under challenging conditions, to produce a better life for their fellow citizens. While there are bad apples in every bunch, the vast majority

continuity binder air force: Continuity Management Hamilton Beazley, Jeremiah Boenisch, David Harden, 2002-10-24 How can I keep knowledge from walking out the door when employees leave? This pressing question is insightfully answered in this landmark book. Operational knowledge has never been more critical to organizational success. Knowledge loss from downsizing, imminent baby-boomer retirements, and high job turnover have created a knowledge continuity crisis that poses an unprecedented threat to organizational productivity and profits. Based on extensive research, Continuity Management solves this crucial problem of knowledge loss for managers at any organizational level by describing an effective strategy for preserving knowledge continuity between employee generations. Revolutionary in its effect, but evolutionary in its practice, continuity management is fueling a new knowledge revolution. This book is about that revolution-and how to lead it.

continuity binder air force: Welcome To The Cold War! Henry Edmund, 2024-09-27 Welcome to the Cold War! is the first book in a series inspired by the author's own exploits during the Cold War. Within this epic tome, dear reader in the future, you will learn what it was like being on the tip of the spear downrange at the edge of our empire's frontiers during the mid-to-late 1980s with a unit filled with drunken psychos serving God and country music. Back home, the good citizens of the United States were fighting over Beanie Babies. In the Far East, our heroes were facing the evil empire, led by splotch-top himself, Mikhail Gorbachev, the Premier of the Soviet Union with his combat-tested military aided by the potential success of their new free-market reforms. Within this tale, you will find a main character meeting and conquering all of the threats facing him: thirsty wenches wanting sex and marriage, the threat of nuclear war, the joy of whiskey drinking, a crushing work schedule, homesickness, winter softball, tobacco addiction, the yakuza, continual food poisoning from the chow hall, mediocre military leadership--and worse, all while preventing WWIII. Welcome to the Cold War indeed.
