delta one boeing 757-200: When the Weight of the Paper... Graham Hyslop, 2024-01-05 This aviation/travel journal is an account of the author’s experiences in 59 years of travelling the globe. His half-Scottish roots may have something to do with his yearning for a desire to visit a number of cold-weather countries that many of us might stay away from, but might like to read about! There are some tropical visits and temperate ones too, but the latest tally has been 21 landings or take-offs within the Arctic Circle, and photos included in the book show Greenland, Iceland, Faroes, Svalbard (sometimes called Spitzbergen), The Falklands and Antarctica amongst others, but there are some in warmer temperature zones! Over those years of travel 124 separate trips have been made involving over 450 different flights. In the early years, many were propeller aircraft and then later jet transport but over that period 64 different types have been flown, and each is supported in the book by brief technical notes and a photo. The author’s work in airline operations and then later in the travel agency sector allowed him the opportunity to extensively travel the world and see these sights. Later in retirement, the travel bug has continued. Interspersed into the timeline of the book is the author’s autobiography of his time spent in the three countries he has lived in during his working life. |

This inquiry was triggered by the publication of the Stern Review on The Economics of Climate Change (2006, ISBN 9780102944204), which stressed the need to stabilise carbon emissions sooner rather than later, and warned of potentially catastrophic impacts if that was not achieved. The Review framed the climate change debate in terms of economic choices, and considered the use of economic tools such as environmental taxation and permit trading schemes as economically-efficient mechanisms for cutting emissions. This Report recommends that the Government give primary consideration to the use of economic tools in combating climate change: The Treasury's policies and action in this regard were the main focus of the inquiry. The report looks at work on this topic by the Treasury and other select committees. It then assesses the economics of the Stern Review, and examines the Government's approach to reducing emissions. Further sections cover emissions trading schemes, environmental taxes and adaptation (designed to counter the negative impacts caused by time lags in global and local ecosystems). The Committee calls for a twin track approach involving both adaptation and mitigation. |

delta one boeing 757-200: Eastern Air Lines David Lee Russell, 2013-09-28 Eastern Air Lines began in 1926 when aviation pioneer Harold Pitcairn started the first carrier air mail route from New York to Atlanta under his company, Pitcairn Aviation. Clement Keys of National Air Transport bought the company in 1929, changed the name to Eastern Air Transport and began passenger service the next year on daily round trips between New York and Richmond. The growing airline was purchased by General Motors and became Eastern Air Lines in 1934. World War I flying ace Edward V. Rickenbacker purchased the airline four years later and led it to become by the 1950s the most profitable airline in the United States. Former astronaut Frank Borman became president of Eastern in 1975 and tried to manage the airline through deregulation, labor union conflict, and heavy debt, ending with the sale of Eastern to Frank Lorenzo and Texas Air in 1986. The airline entered bankruptcy in March 1989 and ended service in less than two years. This detailed history follows Eastern from start to finish, studying such corporate decision-making as aircraft purchases and route expansions, as well as the personalities that shaped the airline throughout its history. |
