Air temperature and relative humidity were continuously recorded in the basement and upper floor of twenty-one houses located in three main climatic regions in Canada. The homeowners recorded wood moisture content and surface temperatures over a two-year period and also measured the amount of water collected by a dehumidifier during the second year. The measurements showed lower moisture content of the basement air compared to outside air and reduced moisture content of wood in the basement when the dehumidifiers were running during the warm summer months. |

The system uses a polymer membrane that allows moisture but not air to pass through it. A vacuum behind the membrane pulls water vapor from the air, and a second set of membranes releases the water vapor outside. The membrane's high selectivity translates into reduced energy consumption for dehumidification. Dais' design goals for NanoAir are the use of proprietary materials and processes and industry-standard installation techniques. NanoAir is also complementary to many other energy saving strategies, including energy recovery. |

ddr5009ree dehumidifier: Dynamic Characterisation of Coupled Heat and Mass Transfer in the Packed-type Liquid Desiccant Dehumidifier Lingshi Wang, 2017 Secondly, experimental studies on the dehumidification performance of a compact liquid desiccant dehumidifier using structured packing with a high specific surface area (650 m2/m3) are conducted. New empirical equations correlating the moisture effectiveness and the enthalpy effectiveness as well as the heat and mass transfer coefficients with critical inlet parameters are developed. Lewis number during the dehumidification process is also discussed to analyze the coupled heat and mass transfer characteristics. The performance of the present type of packing is compared with other types of packing studied in literature. Besides, the influences of the inlet conditions of the air and the desiccant as well as the packing height on the dehumidification performance are also investigated and compared with the results reported in previous studies, which is valuable for the design of compact liquid desiccant dehumidifiers. Thirdly, the dynamic heat and mass transfer characteristics of a counter-flow packed-type liquid desiccant dehumidifier are studied experimentally. Two types of transient working conditions are tested in experiments: at the beginning of a dehumidification process (by two different scenarios) and the step changes of inlet fluids parameters (inlet air humidity ratio and the solution flow rate). Dynamic responses of the outlet air and desiccant solution as well as dynamic moisture removal rate are displayed and discussed. Fourthly, a simplified one-dimensional dynamic model is also developed for simulating the dynamic characteristics of the counter flow packed-type liquid desiccant dehumidifier. Convenient approaches to quantifying the thermal mass of the packing and the desiccant solution held in the dehumidifier are proposed, which are essential parameters of the dynamic model. Numerical solution for the proposed model is developed. The model is tested and validated experimentally under different transient operating conditions. Finally, the dynamic characteristics of the dehumidifier are investigated by parameter analysis method. Time constants of the dynamic humidity and temperature of outlet air are introduced to evaluate the dynamic response of the dehumidifier. The influences of two operation parameters (i.e. the air flow rate and the solution flow rate) and one configuration parameter (i.e. the height of the packing) on the time constants are analyzed experimentally. Besides, the influences of thermal mass of the dehumidifier on the time constants are also analyzed using the proposed dynamic model. |

The condenser includes a water inlet and a water outlet for flowing water therethrough or proximate thereto, or is affixed to the tank or immersed into the tank to effect water heating without flowing water. The immersed condenser design includes a self-insulated capillary tube expansion device for simplicity and high efficiency. In a water heating mode air is drawn by the evaporator fan across the evaporator to produce cooled and dehumidified air and heat taken from the air is absorbed by the refrigerant at the evaporator and is pumped to the condenser, where water is heated. When the tank of water heater is full of hot water or a humidistat set point is reached, the water-heating dehumidifier can switch to run as a dehumidifier. |

ADMA Products's metal foil-like membrane consists of a paper thin, porous metal sheet coated with a layer of water-loving molecules. This new membrane allows water vapor to permeate across the membrane at high fluxes and at the same time, blocks air penetration efficiently resulting in high selectivity. The high selectivity of the membrane translates to less energy use, while the high permeation fluxes result in a more compact device. The new materials and the flat foil-like nature of the membrane facilitate the mass production of a low-coast compact dehumidification device. |

ddr5009ree dehumidifier: Heat and Mass Transfer Analysis of a Desiccant Dehumidifier Matrix , 1986 This report documents the SERI Single-Blow Test Facility's design, fabrication, and testing for characterizing desiccant dehumidifiers for solar cooling applications. The first test article, a silica-gel parallel-plate dehumidifier with highly uniform passages, was designed and fabricated. Transient heat and mass transfer data and pressure drop data across the dehumidifier were obtained. Available heat and mass transfer models were extended to the parallel-place geometry, and the experimental data were compared with model predictions. Pressure drop measurements were also compared with model predictions of the fully developed laminar flow theory. The comparisons between the lumped-capacitance model and the experimental data were satisfactory. The pressure drop data compared satisfactorily with the theory (within 15%). A solid-side resistance model that is more detailed and does not assume symmetrical diffusion in particles was recommended for performance. This study has increased our understanding of the heat and mass transfer in silica gel parallel-plate dehumidifiers. |

Barlow, Solar Energy Research Institute, 1983 Five dehumidifier designs are evaluated in this report--three from existing prototype cooling systems (from AiResearch, IGT, and IIT) and two (from UCLA and SERI) that have not yet been tested in a complete cooling system. The basic principles of heat and mass regenerators and the requirements of the solar cooling application have been combined to generate a list of desirable characteristics for dehumidifiers. The five designs are described and compared quantitatively; compared performance is considered as well as isolated dehumidifier parameters. Preliminary simulations indicate that a system using the SERI dehumidifier design could achieve a design-point COP greater than unity without causing significant increases in parasitic power, system size, or system cost, compared with existing prototypes. |
