colt 1911 military issue: The Colt 1911 Pistol Leroy Thompson, 2011-05-24 First used in combat during the Punitive Expedition into Mexico and then extensively during both World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-1945), the Colt Government Model (1911) pistol remained the standard issue handgun in the US armed forces for nearly 80 years and has continued in service with some units to this day. In fact, the M1911 has seen a resurgence among US Special Operations units, as US Marine MARSOC and MEUSOC personnel are issued current generation 1911-type pistols. In addition, the pistol has seen service with famous law enforcement agencies such as the Shanghai Municipal Police, LAPD Swat and Texas Rangers. Nearly a century after its introduction, the M1911 Pistol remains a popular design and is now produced by virtually every major firearms manufacturer doing business in the USA. In this new volume, handgun expert Leroy Thompson sheds new light on the development, history and use of this revolutionary handgun, complete with specially-commissioned artwork depicting the firing process and cutaway profile of the gun, as well as its use in various theaters of war. |

colt 1911 military issue: Pistols Jeff Kinard, 2004-11-23 The development of the pistol helped bring the age of the armored knight to an end, provided the elite with a status symbol of dangerous glamour, and inspired both artisans and industrialists to reach new heights of invention. Pistols follows the evolution of personal sidearms in Europe, the United States, and Asia from medieval-era hand cannons with their clunky ignition systems, to the revolutionary Colt revolvers of the 19th century, to the modern semiautomatic weapons of today. Full of fascinating insights and details, this work shows how pistols brought about the decline of knights in armor, and ultimately replaced the sword on the battlefield. The book also explores the pistol's astonishing democratization as it moved from being a luxury item of the nobility, to standard issue for soldiers, to a mass-produced commodity and source of intensive corporate competition. Along the way, readers meet the many colorful characters (often eccentric geniuses) who devoted themselves to pistol development. |

colt 1911 military issue: The Browning High-Power Pistol Leroy Thompson, 2020-04-30 Making its debut in 1935, the Browning High-Power was the world's most widely used military pistol for much of the 20th century. Military and law-enforcement agencies in more than 90 countries have issued the High-Power and it has seen combat in conflicts from World War II through to the 'War on Terror'. After conquering Belgium, Nazi Germany produced more than 300,000 High-Powers for use by the Waffen-SS, Fallschirmjäger and others, and after 1945 the High-Power became standard for most NATO-armed forces as well as scores of others. Chambered for the 9×19mm Luger cartridge, John Browning's High-Power improved on the classic Colt M1911 design, especially in its use of a far simpler takedown system. The pistol's innovative 13-round magazine, designed by Dieudonné Saive, staggered the cartridges for higher capacity without unduly increasing the grip size. During its 82-year production run at Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Belgium, the design evolved slightly, but a 2017 High-Power was still easily recognizable as a descendant of the original model. Packed with gripping material including detailed technical specifications, contemporary photographs and highly accurate artist's renditions, this title is a comprehensive and informative guide to the world's most iconic semi-automatic pistol. |
colt 1911 military issue: 365 to Dallas John C. Gold, 2018-11-17 The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy is still as relevant today as it was on November 22, 1963. Over the years, novices and experts have poured over evidence, witness testimonies, pictures and film of the covert cover-up and controversial killing of JFK. To date, nobody has been able to penetrate the elusive plot and classified plan that was established 365 days prior to November 22. 1963 Until now. The training, planning and actions leading up to the most infamous crime of the twentieth century is as controversial as the assassination itself. 365 to Dallas is the never before heard confession of one of the ten team members that carried out the execution of President John F. Kennedy that fateful November day in Dallas, TX over half a century ago. Mark, only eighteen at the time, was one out of ten soldiers selected to be highly trained for this forbidden and deeply covert mission. Six shooters and four distractors under the umbrella of the Untied States Intelligence agencies were trained for one mission only: The assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Author John Gold has over a decade of military and civilian law enforcement investigative training. In 2000, John Gold was called to ministry. In the summer of 2013, John’s mentor Mark, while watching the 2007 Movie Shooter, broke down and, over the course of the next year, confessed to being one of a team of ten that assassinated President Kennedy. For five years, John Gold investigated Mark’s claims, trying to disprove the confession. John was unsuccessful. 365 to Dallas is the true tale of Mark’s participation in the murder that occurred in Dallas, TX over half a century ago. You will discover the new proof, evidence and the never before told tale of the 365 days of training, planning and execution leading up to that fateful November day. |

colt 1911 military issue: Green Bullet Fouad Sabry, 2022-08-12 What Is Green Bullet Green bullet, green ammunition, and green ammo are all slang names for a program run by the Department of Defense of the United States to eradicate the use of hazardous compounds in small weapons ammunition as well as in the manufacture of small arms ammunition. The removal of heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and ozone-depleting chemicals from primers and projectiles was one of the first goals. Throughout the whole of the ammunition production process, these materials were regarded as a potential source of complications. At the production facilities, the materials caused hazardous wastes and pollutants to be produced, and at the shooting ranges, the usage of ammunition created contamination. The demilitarization process and the disposal of unneeded munitions were made difficult and costly by the potential health risks involved. colt 1911 military issue: Handbook of Handguns Jeffrey Strickland, 2013-04-25 In light of the 2nd Amendment debates, shooting may become the national passtime. To act responsibly within the 2nd Amendment, means knowing how to properly bear arms. Knowing involves understanding firearm types, firearm operation, ammunition, internal ballistics, and shooting. These require training, especially shooting. Whether you own or plan to own a handgun for recreation, competition, or self-defense, training is of the utmost importance. When you fire a projectile (bullet) from a firearm, you are responsible for where it goes. You need to understand how fast it travels, how far it can travel, and how accurate your firearm is in delivering the projectile to your intended target. Yes, bearing arms is a right, but not one to be taken lightly. Firing a handgun is a grave responsibility and must be done correctly and with a full understanding of all the components that make up shooting. |

colt 1911 military issue: No Middle Name Lee Child, 2018-01-02 THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING JACK REACHER SERIES • Don’t miss the hit streaming series Reacher! The ultimate Jack Reacher experience: a thrilling new novella and eleven previously published stories, together for the first time in one pulse-pounding collection from Lee Child. No Middle Name begins with “Too Much Time,” a brand-new work of short fiction that finds Reacher in a hollowed-out town in Maine, where he witnesses a random bag-snatching but sees much more than a simple crime. “Small Wars” takes readers back to 1989, when Reacher is an MP assigned to solve the brutal murder of a young officer found along an isolated forest road in Georgia—and whose killer may be hiding in plain sight. In “Not a Drill,” Reacher tries to take some downtime, but a pleasant hike in Maine turns into a walk on the wild side—and perhaps something far more sinister. “High Heat” time-hops to 1977, when Reacher is a teenager in sweltering New York City during a sudden blackout that awakens the dark side of the city that never sleeps. Okinawa is the setting of “Second Son,” which reveals the pivotal moment when young Reacher’s sharp “lizard brain” becomes just as important as his muscle. In “Deep Down,” Reacher tracks down a spy by matching wits with four formidable females—three of whom are clean, but the fourth may prove fatal. Rounding out the collection are “Guy Walks into a Bar,” “James Penney’s New Identity,” “Everyone Talks,” “The Picture of the Lonely Diner,” “Maybe They Have a Tradition,” and “No Room at the Motel.” No suitcase. No destination. No middle name. No matter how far Reacher travels off the beaten path, trouble always finds him. Feel bad for trouble. Praise for No Middle Name “Captivating . . . classic [Lee] Child . . . This volume demonstrates what his fans already know: he’s a born storyteller and an astute observer.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review) “Lee Child, like his creation, always knows exactly what he’s doing—and he does it well. Time in his company is never wasted.”—Evening Standard |
