cloquet juniors volleyball: Thief River Falls and Pennington County Caryl J. Bugge, 2006 Positioned on the east edges of the Red River Valley and the northern Minnesota Woodlands, Pennington County was settled by farmers of predominantly Scandinavian stock, and census surveys indicate that Thief River Falls was the most Norwegian city in the United States. These settlers broke the soil, planted grain, and traveled to the woodlands for logs with which to build their homes. They floated the trees they cut down the rivers to the mills in Thief River Falls, St. Hilaire, and Crookston. Grain elevators and flour mills stood out against the prairie skyline, and milled logs became ties for the railroads that would transport the lumber and grain to distant cities and ports. The postcards in this book depict the industries, buildings, and people of Pennington County. While most Ojibwe people live in a modern world, dominated by computers, motors, science, mathematics, and global issues, the language that has grown to discuss these things is not often taught or thought about by most teachers and students of the language. A group of nine fluent elders representing several different dialects of Ojibwe gathered with teachers from Ojibwe immersion schools and university language programs to brainstorm and document less-well-known but critical modern Ojibwe terminology. Topics discussed include science, medicine, social studies, geography, mathematics, and punctuation. This book is the result of their labors.

cloquet juniors volleyball: People in Crisis Lee Ann Hoff, Lisa Brown, Miracle R. Hoff, 2011-02-25 The first edition of People in Crisis, published in 1978, established success as a comprehensive and user-friendly text for health and social service professionals. The book and its following incarnations included critical life events and life cycle transition challenges, clearly pointing out the interconnections between such events, stressful developmental changes, and their potential for growth but also danger of suicide and/or violence toward others. This revised edition includes new case examples and expanded coverage of cross-cultural content, including 'commonalities and differences' in origins, manifestations, and crisis responses. The authors illustrate the application of crisis concepts, assessment, and intervention strategies across a wide range of health and mental health settings, as well as at home, school, workplace, and in the community. Each chapter contains a closing summary that includes discussion questions, references, and online data sources for maximum application and learning. Updated chapters discuss new, research-based content on: • workplace violence and abuse • youth violence in schools and higher education settings • the use of psychotropic drugs, including for very young children in the absence of comprehensive assessment • the crisis vulnerability of war veterans and the hazards of 'pathologizing' what should be considered a 'normal' response to the repeated and catastrophic trauma of war • the intersection of socio-political factors with individuals’ psychological healing from catastrophic experiences such as war and natural disaster.
