community bible study romans: Romans Walking in the Transforming Power of the Gospel Message Norma Blackmon, 2018-08-14 A Bible Study through Romans Oh the depth of this letter to the Roman believers by the apostle Paul, where we, each one of us can see ourselves, maybe even our old selves revealed, and the Way, the Truth, and Gods transforming power that has and continues to save and change us. Yes all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Why? Because we have, each and every one, inherited a (the) sin nature, disobedience, from the fall, from the one man. And because of this we all, again, were enemies of God, afar off and at enmity. Yet in His great love for us we learn that even while we were His enemies, God gave His only Son to die on a cross that we might have our sins forgiven; if we believe. Now we have a new nature, a new man, alongside the old, that can grow in grace and strength and cause the old nature to be buried. At least as much as is possible in these mortal and fleshly bodies: and as much as we are willing to yield to the Spirits leading, and obey. Who are those who are without excuse? Who are those who are inexcusable? Is there any hope for those who God has given over? I think maybe. Who are the branches, and who does the wild olive tree refer to? What was the hoped outcome in provoking the Jews to jealousy? We read of works versus grace; of the war between the mind and the Spirit, and that even when we are unfaithful, God is faithful; He cannot deny Himself. Wow! Just pause for a moment and absorb that. What an amazing God we serve! What a beautiful, strong, encouraging, convicting, challenging and promise filled letter Paul has written. Yes, I understand that I have scarcely touched the surface. Still my prayer is for even a fraction of Gods message, His power, love and teaching will come through this study. I confess that I know so little, but He is so big! Please Father might all who work through these pages see You, and embrace all that You in Christ Jesus have done for us. May You be lifted up and praised and adored for You. In the power of Jesus name I pray and thank You for this privilege. Amen.
community bible study romans: The Book of Romans Woodrow Michael Kroll, 2003-04 The book of Romans has rightly been called the Constitution of Christianity. In this one letter are recorded the doctrines of justification, sanctification, divine condemnation, divine election, the perseverance of the saints, total depravity, the last judgment, the fall of man, the revelation of God in nature, and so much more. In his commentary, Dr. Kroll indicates that the letter to the church in Rome was Paul's way of depositing a handbook of Christian doctrine into the capital of the Roman Empire.

The book includes ideas held in the tension of life, but it is within those tensions that our Christian walk exists.   community bible study romans: The People are Holy Graydon F. Snyder, Doreen M. McFarlane, 2005 Using biblical and historical data, this book first describes the biblical and theological basis for worship in the Free Church tradition, then shows how this tradition is expressed in worship at special occasions as well as in traditional services. The People Are Holy describes the characteristics of early church worship, then traces how those qualities and practices are realized in the Free Churches. In addition to analyzing all parts of the Sunday worship services, the book includes a consideration of key special services such as baptisms, communions, weddings, installations, healing services, and funerals. In order to demonstrate how preaching functions, the book contains four sermons on key concerns for the Free Church. This book will help members of Free Churches understand why they do what they do when they come together as a faith community. It will help pastors reflect on the theological and biblical basis of how they conduct worship. This is not a how-to book. Based on the faith stance of Free Churches in general, it describes what would be the reasonable application of those principles in worshipping communities. Christians not of a Free Church persuasion can discover in this book what inspires so many Americans and marks the way they worship. Book jacket.
community bible study romans: Daniel John Ortberg, Kevin & Sherry Harney, 2009-12-15 Stand Strong in Life’s Furnaces How do you respond when the bottom drops out? What happens to your character quotient when things don’t go the way you planned? How do you react when the temperature is rising, you are under attack, and God seems far away? Daniel discovered that the furnace experiences of life refine and define us. Spiritual integrity rarely grows when everything goes our way. Instead, God uses things like a furnace, a lion’s den, a mad king, and exile in a foreign country to forge character in a soul. If you long to meet God in the challenging times and come through the fire stronger and more faithful, Daniel is ready to show the way.

community bible study romans: Rediscovering Church Lynne Hybels, Bill Hybels, 1997-12 Rediscovering Church is the candid story of Willow Creek Community Church's phenomenal growth, from 100 members meeting in a Palatine, Illinois, movie theater to its present Sunday morning attendance of 15,000. Bill Hybels and his wife, Lynne, tell about Willow Creek's beginnings, its struggles, the philosophy behind its success, and the strategies that have made it a model for church growth. The first half of the book, written by Lynne Hybels, explores the early years of Willow Creek and the personal accounts behind one of this century's most remarkable church stories. It offers an honest look at the ways God has used both the strengths and weaknesses of His people, creating a church of believers who have had tremendous impact for Christ in their community. In the second half of Rediscovering Church, Bill Hybels helps you apply the strengths of Willow Creek's ministry philosophy to your own congregation's mission. From mission statements to developing leadership, making sound financial decisions, and handling growth, Bill stresses that God wants to build His church to be an effective and committed community of faith that reaches out to a hurting world, to be the body of Christ in real and tangible ways. Rediscovering Church draws on the experiences of Willow Creek to show how one fellowship crystallized its mission and methodology, its vision and values. The Willow Creek story provides an example that churches and individuals alike can turn to for inspiration, encouragement, and a means of uncovering the pattern for their own unique mission and ministry.
