Gattis, 2018-03-01 Workplace bullying, the repeated and regular act of harassing, offending, socially excluding someone, or negatively affecting someone’s work over time has been recognized as a serious threat to the health and well-being of employees. This study sought to explore resilience as a coping strategy to help improve the physical and mental health effects of professional women who have or are experiencing workplace bullying. The central research question was, how does perceived resilience, when used as a coping strategy, help with the physical and mental health stressors while helping to improve the overall well-being of professional women who were or have experienced workplace bullying? Using a qualitative methodology with a single-case study design, 10 professional women who have and are still experiencing workplace bullying were commissioned to participate. To increase the validity of the results, four data techniques were employed: open-ended interviews, researcher notes with observations, and two surveys-the Resilience at Work (R@W) Scale, and the SF12v2 Health Survey. Four major themes emerged: Negative Experiences, Consequences of Bullying, Impact on Health, and Support Systems. It was discovered that the majority of the participants believed that they were targeted at their workplace because of their race, followed by their gender, and age. The women shared that the negative experiences and consequences of bullying can serve as indicators that workplace bullying is evident and that it can affect their health negatively. Additionally, the participants reported that various support systems and networks greatly increased their resilience at work. |

Anti-bullying practices in primary schools in contemporary Serbia , 2017-02-21 Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Pedagogy - School System, Educational and School Politics, grade: 9/B, University of Sarajevo (University of Sarajevo and University of Bologny - Center for Interdisciplinary Studies), course: Human rights and Democracy, language: English, abstract: The issue discussed in this paper is the problem of school bullying at primary schools in the Republic of Serbia as it is proven to grow as an increasing phenomenon. Specifically, attention is given to anti-bullying practices in primary schools in order to analyze if children are free from violence, abuse and neglect. The central research question of the research is why bullying is an issue in Serbia and what the responsiveness of public authorities tackling this issue is, therefore including the accountability of primary schools in Serbia, the responsibility of the educational system for tackling bullying, the measures implemented by teachers/educators. To answer these questions, the paper presents the international and national legislative framework, a theoretical discussion of bullying as a socio-cultural phenomenon, together with a list of key events which stirred the general public and a survey. The study concludes that bullying is an issue in contemporary Serbia because of overall socio-economic conditions in Serbia, lack of expert associates within schools, inadequate prevention and intervention measures, and necessary amendments of the current legislation. Also, the research confirms the initial hypothesis by which current anti-bullying practices in primary schools in Serbia do not stand for effective response and adequate measures to prevent and reduce school bullying. |

It begins with an integrative theoretical understanding of aggression and shows how animal models shed light on human aggression and violence. Individual risk factors for aggression and violence from different research perspectives are then examined. First, there is a cognitive neuroscientific, neuropsychological, and psychophysiological study of the brain. It then explores the developmental psychological factors in aggressive behavior, incorporating work on gender and the family. Other perspectives include the role of testosterone, individual differences, and whether humans are innately wired for violence. The following sections moves from the individual to the contextual risk factors for aggression, including work on the effects of adverse events and ostracism, guns and other aggressive cues including violent media, and drugs and alcohol.
