books on being a submissive woman: My So-Called Life as a Submissive Wife Sara Horn, 2013-08-01 Can a modern wife be submissive to her husband? In her highly anticipated sequel to My So-Called Life as a Proverbs 31 Wife, author Sara Horn takes on one of the most widely debated subjects for a Christian wife—marital submission. What does biblical submission look like for wives today? And why is submission viewed as such a dirty word by so many women and men in our culture, including Christians? Can a happily married couple live out the biblical model of submission and be the better for it? Horn takes on a one-year experiment to seek answers to these questions and to explore what it means to be submissive as a wife and “helper” to her husband. The answers—and her discoveries—may surprise you. This unique, entertaining, and thought-provoking personal account will challenge women to throw out their preconceived notions of what a submissive wife looks like and seek fresh leading from God for their lives and marriages today.
books on being a submissive woman: Submissive Training Elizabeth Cramer, 2015-03-05 Nothing will prepare you for a life of submission in the same way as your formal training. Submissive training isn’t just a “good idea” when it comes to creating a BDSM relationship. It is essential. Submissive Training: 23 Things You Must Know About How To Be A Submissive is designed to help you know what to expect when you go through training with a new Dom. Every couple is unique and every Dom may have different ways of teaching you the systems of service he prefers. However, these are the basics all trained subs and slaves learn and employ in daily life. Rushing into a relationship or service contract with a Dom without training puts the future of your time together at risk. All of the arguments, resistance, misunderstandings and hurt feelings that go with a new submissive’s experiences can be eradicated by a period designated for learning, listening, trial and error. Even if you have been with a previous Dom you will need to go through an abbreviated training time to ensure your patterns and understandings match one another. Training is a way to “get in the same rhythm” and find the perfect groove. If you are a Dom, this guide is the perfect gift to give to your new sub. If you are a sub, this guide will teach you how to go through your submissive training. As you go through these things on the journey to become the woman you were made to be, you will be tested but you will also be proud, joyful and, perhaps for the first time in your life, you will be at peace.

books on being a submissive woman: Care and Nurture for the Submissive Elizabeth Cramer, 2013-11 Submission can be described by a lot of words but “easy” isn't one of them. Discovering and honoring your desire to submit takes courage, strength and passion. Learning to follow the lead and rhythm set by another, and stretching your limits to accommodate training and service can challenge and exhaust you. The discipline to hold your tongue, retrieve your paddle, or wait around endlessly while knot after knot is being tied as part of a bondage ritual drains your energy. Submission stretches, taxes, pushes, and exposes your body and soul to the whim and desire of another. Submissive women need support, care and nurture to continue on this journey in a healthy fashion. Care and Nurture for the Submissive offers tips, understandings, and pathways to tend the fragile and beautiful souls of submissive women. Self-care is not selfish; it is essential. Only when you are taking care of yourself as a healthy, whole being can you give that self to another with a full heart and free joy.
books on being a submissive woman: We Are Not Born Submissive Manon Garcia, 2021-03-30 A philosophical exploration of female submission, using insights from feminist thinkers—especially Simone de Beauvoir—to reveal the complexities of women’s reality and lived experience What role do women play in the perpetuation of patriarchy? On the one hand, popular media urges women to be independent, outspoken, and career-minded. Yet, this same media glorifies a specific, sometimes voluntary, female submissiveness as a source of satisfaction. In philosophy, even less has been said on why women submit to men and the discussion has been equally contradictory—submission has traditionally been considered a vice or pathology, but female submission has been valorized as innate to women’s nature. Is there a way to explore female submission in all of its complexity—not denying its appeal in certain instances, and not buying into an antifeminist, sexist, or misogynistic perspective? We Are Not Born Submissive offers the first in-depth philosophical exploration of female submission, focusing on the thinking of Simone de Beauvoir, and more recent work in feminist philosophy, epistemology, and political theory. Manon Garcia argues that to comprehend female submission, we must invert how we examine power and see it from the woman’s point of view. Historically, philosophers, psychoanalysts, and even some radical feminists have conflated femininity and submission. Garcia demonstrates that only through the lens of women’s lived experiences—their economic, social, and political situations—and how women adapt their preferences to maintain their own well-being, can we understand the ways in which gender hierarchies in society shape women’s experiences. Ultimately, she asserts that women do not actively choose submission. Rather, they consent to—and sometimes take pleasure in—what is prescribed to them through social norms within a patriarchy. Moving beyond the simplistic binary of natural destiny or moral vice, We Are Not Born Submissive takes a sophisticated look at how female submissiveness can be explained.
books on being a submissive woman: Submissive Wife Stories C. Edwards, 2014-12-05 The first volume of Submissive Women combines three of Charlotte Edwards' most popular stories in one volume of over 13,000 words. TRAINING MY WIFE The marriage got stale, Suzi got fat and unattractive and Damion got a mistress with whom he was able to indulge his wildest fantasies. When he told his wife he intended leaving her for his new love, she decided to do anything she had to to keep him. That would mean training! SHARING MY WIFE Suzi used to be an inattentive wife and that nearly cost her marriage when her husband got a mistress. Determined to be the lover her husband wants, she is led down a path of pleasure, depravity and fun. On this occasion, she is tied up and offered to another couple. WIFE'S TOY PARTY Naughty wife, Suzi, is going out of her way to keep her husband and Master happy. Throwing a marital aids party at home, she invites twenty of the loveliest ladies from the neighbourhood and ensures He has a front seat for the show and plenty of opportunity for audience participation. Extract: 'I finished my Champagne and Suzi took that as the signal I intended it to be to knock back her own drink, walk across the room and stand passively by my side, shedding her robe on the way. Drinking in her beauty, I ran a hand down the curve of her ample breast, along the tight leather corset I had cinched her into earlier and followed the flair of her hip. Standing abruptly, I pulled her slender arms behind her back and taking a long leather sheath, began to lace it up the length of her arms. With a last tug, I fastened the restraint off with a bow and admired the way in which it made her 38DD breasts lift and project even further. For a few seconds, I couldn't resist taking her nipples into my mouth one at a time, elucidating a low moan from my horny woman. Getting back to work, I fitted her ankles with a spreader bar and then lodged a four inch penis gag firmly into her throat. Suzi made a token attempt at struggling as this was inserted - she really didn't like it much but once it was fully in and fastened, she relaxed again. We both learned a long time ago that the one faculty Suzi had to give up for total submission was her voice. The final touch was a leather blindfold and a small butt plug, pushed firmly in place just as the doorbell rang. With a last rub of her sopping wet pussy, I left my beautiful wife standing vulnerable and available in the middle of the bedroom as I went to let our guests in.' These are explicit erotic tales which will appeal to both sexes and as you might expect, have detailed descriptions of many sexual activities, including bondage, whipping and double penetration. If that sort of stuff offends you, please do not read it!

books on being a submissive woman: Conduct Books and the History of the Ideal Woman Tabitha Kenlon, 2020-03-31 The longest-running war is the battle over how women should behave. “Conduct Books and the History of the Ideal Woman” examines six centuries of advice literature, analyzing the print origins of gendered expectations that continue to inform our thinking about women’s roles and abilities. Close readings of numerous conduct manuals from Britain and America, written by men and women, explain and contextualize the legacy of sexism as represented in prescriptive writing for women from 1372 to the present. While existing period-specific studies of conduct manuals consider advice literature within the society that wrote and read them, “Conduct Books and the History of the Ideal Woman” provides the only analysis of both the volumes themselves and the larger debates taking place within their pages across the centuries. Combining textual literary analysis with a social history sensibility while remaining accessible to expert and novice, this book will help readers understand the on-going debate about the often-contradictory guidelines for female behavior.

books on being a submissive woman: Good Girl Messages Deborah O'Keefe, 2016-10-06 For much of the 20th century, books for children encouraged girls to be weak, submissive, and fearful. This book discusses such traits, both blatantly and subtly reinforced, in many of the most popular works of the period. Quoting a wide variety of passages, O'Keefe illustrates the typical behaviour of fictional girls – many of whom were passive and immobile while others were actually invalids. They all engaged in approved girlish activities: deferred to elders, observed the priorities, and, in the end, accepted conventional suitors. Even feisty tomboys, like Jo in Little Women, eventually gave up on their dreams and their independence. The discussion is interlaced with moments from the author's own childhood that suggest how her developing self-interacted with these stories. She and her contemporaries, trying to reconcile their conservative reading with the changing world around them, learned ambivalence rather than confidence. Good Girl Messages also includes a discussion of books read by boys, who were depicted as purposeful, daring, and dominating.
books on being a submissive woman: The Good Wife's Guide (Le Ménagier de Paris) , 2012-08-22 In the closing years of the fourteenth century, an anonymous French writer compiled a book addressed to a fifteen-year-old bride, narrated in the voice of her husband, a wealthy, aging Parisian. The book was designed to teach this young wife the moral attributes, duties, and conduct befitting a woman of her station in society, in the almost certain event of her widowhood and subsequent remarriage. The work also provides a rich assembly of practical materials for the wife's use and for her household, including treatises on gardening and shopping, tips on choosing servants, directions on the medical care of horses and the training of hawks, plus menus for elaborate feasts, and more than 380 recipes. The Good Wife's Guide is the first complete modern English translation of this important medieval text also known as Le Ménagier de Paris (the Parisian household book), a work long recognized for its unique insights into the domestic life of the bourgeoisie during the later Middle Ages. The Good Wife's Guide, expertly rendered into modern English by Gina L. Greco and Christine M. Rose, is accompanied by an informative critical introduction setting the work in its proper medieval context as a conduct manual. This edition presents the book in its entirety, as it must have existed for its earliest readers. The Guide is now a treasure for the classroom, appealing to anyone studying medieval literature or history or considering the complex lives of medieval women. It illuminates the milieu and composition process of medieval authors and will in turn fascinate cooking or horticulture enthusiasts. The work illustrates how a (perhaps fictional) Parisian householder of the late fourteenth century might well have trained his wife so that her behavior could reflect honorably on him and enhance his reputation.

books on being a submissive woman: The Verso Book of Feminism Jessie Kindig, 2020-10-20 An unprecedented collection of feminist voices from four millennia of global history Throughout written history and across the world, women have protested the restrictions of gender and the limitations placed on women's bodies and women's lives. People–of any and no gender–have protested and theorized, penned manifestos and written poetry and songs, testified and lobbied, gone on strike and fomented revolution, quietly demanded that there is an I and loudly proclaimed that there is a we. The Book of Feminism chronicles this history of defiance and tracks it around the world as it develops into a multivocal and unabashed force. Global in scope, The Book of Feminism shows the breadth of feminist protest and of feminist thinking, moving through the female poets of China's Tang Dynasty and accounts of indigenous women in the Caribbean resisting Columbus's expedition, British suffragists militating for the vote and the revolutionary petroleuses of the 1848 Paris Commune, the first century Trung sisters who fought for the independence of Nam Viet to women in 1980s Botswana fighting for equal protection under the law, from the erotica of the 6th century and the 19th century to radical queer politics in the 20th and 21st.   books on being a submissive woman: Children’s Picture Books and Contemporary Egyptian Society Yasmine Motawy, 2025-02-25 A social and political history of two decades of Egyptian neoliberalism through children’s picture books published in Egypt in the post-2000 era Children’s picture books are some of the most transparently ideological materials available to parents and educators, and as cultural objects they are an expression of the zeitgeist of a particular era. They reveal much about the hopes, values, and aspirations of the society that produces them, as well as that society’s vision of its place in the wider world at large. Children’s Picture Books and Contemporary Egyptian Society examines a new wave of Egyptian picture books that was published in the current century to see how these books responded to larger societal trends and transformations in Egypt, as well as to explore the ideologies that lie behind them. Yasmine Motawy argues that a host of factors, including the growth of gated communities and international schooling, the proliferation of lucrative literary awards, returning Gulf migrants, television dramas, and nationwide reading advocacy initiatives helped give rise to a new kind of children’s picture book in Egypt. Motawy focuses on three clusters of selected picture books to investigate the extent to which these books reproduce hegemonic discourses or, alternatively, open up new horizons of childhood agency and societal transformation. The first cluster includes books that directly socialize the child by showing them ‘how things are done,’ in both the domestic sphere and the increasing globalized spaces that children frequent with their families. The second cluster aims at reframing cultural notions around femininity through the retelling of folk and fairy tales, while the third cluster addresses children's abilities to assess the impact of their actions on their environment, and invites them to examine their personal suitability to positions of power and stewardship.
books on being a submissive woman: The Commonplace Book of William Byrd II of Westover Kevin Joel Berland, Jan Kirsten Gilliam, Kenneth A. Lockridge, 2012-12-01 William Byrd II (1674-1744) was an important figure in the history of colonial Virginia: a founder of Richmond, an active participant in Virginia politics, and the proprietor of one of the colony's greatest plantations. But Byrd is best known today for his diaries. Considered essential documents of private life in colonial America, they offer readers an unparalleled glimpse into the world of a Virginia gentleman. This book joins Byrd's Diary, Secret Diary, and other writings in securing his reputation as one of the most interesting men in colonial America. Edited and presented here for the first time, Byrd's commonplace book is a collection of moral wit and wisdom gleaned from reading and conversation. The nearly six hundred entries range in tone from hope to despair, trust to dissimulation, and reflect on issues as varied as science, religion, women, Alexander the Great, and the perils of love. A ten-part introduction presents an overview of Byrd's life and addresses such topics as his education and habits of reading and his endeavors to understand himself sexually, temperamentally, and religiously, as well as the history and cultural function of commonplacing. Extensive annotations discuss the sources, background, and significance of the entries.
books on being a submissive woman: Shōjo Across Media Jaqueline Berndt, Kazumi Nagaike, Fusami Ogi, 2019-02-22 Since the 2000s, the Japanese word shōjo has gained global currency, accompanying the transcultural spread of other popular Japanese media such as manga and anime. The term refers to both a character type specifically, as well as commercial genres marketed to female audiences more generally. Through its diverse chapters this edited collection introduces the two main currents of shōjo research: on the one hand, historical investigations of Japan’s modern girl culture and its representations, informed by Japanese-studies and gender-studies concerns; on the other hand, explorations of the transcultural performativity of shōjo as a crafted concept and affect-prone code, shaped by media studies, genre theory, and fan-culture research. While acknowledging that shōjo has mediated multiple discourses throughout the twentieth century—discourses on Japan and its modernity, consumption and consumerism, non-hegemonic gender, and also technology—this volume shifts the focus to shōjo mediations, stretching from media by and for actual girls, to shōjo as media. As a result, the Japan-derived concept, while still situated, begins to offer possibilities for broader conceptualizations of girlness within the contemporary global digital mediascape.
books on being a submissive woman: Companions Without Vows Betty Rizzo, 2008-09-01 Companions Without Vows is the first detailed study of the companionate relationship among women in eighteenth-century England--a type of relationship so prevalent that it was nearly institutionalized. Drawing extensively upon primary documents and fictional narratives, Betty Rizzo describes the socioeconomic conditions that forced women to take on or to become companions and examines a number of actual companionate relationships. Several factors fostered such relationships. Husbands and wives of the period lived largely separate social lives, yet decorum prohibited genteel women from attending engagements unaccompanied. Also, women of position insisted on having social consultants and confidantes. Filling this need were the many well-born young women without sufficient funds to live independently. Because family money and property were concentrated in the hands of eldest sons, these women frequently had to seek the protection of female benefactors for whom they performed unpaid, nonmenial tasks, such as providing a hand at cards or simply offering pleasant company. The companionate relationship between women could assume many forms, Rizzo notes. It was often analogous to marriage, with one partner dominant and the other subservient, while some women experimented in establishing partnerships that were truly egalitarian. Rizzo explores these various types of relationships both in real life and in fiction, noting that much of the period's discourse about women's relationships can be seen as a tacit commentary on marriage. Provocative and engagingly written, this authoritative work casts new light on women's attempts to deal with a patriarchal power structure and offers new insight into eighteenth-century social history.

books on being a submissive woman: REPRESENTATION OF INDIA IN SELECT NOVELS Dr. Himanshu Parmar, The book is an attempt to analyze the construction of India by five authors in their seminal works of literature. The first of the five novels is A Passage to India by E. M. Forster published in 1924. Chronologically, it is followed by Midnight’s Children, the “Booker of Bookers” for the year 1993, published in 1981 by Salman Rushdie. The third one is The Great Indian Novel , modeled on the Great Indian Epic, The Mahabharata, published in 1989 by Shashi Tharoor. The fourth one belongs to the canon of Regional Literature and is composed by Kamleshwar. The original title is Kitne Pakistan published in 2000 and the English translation Partitions came in 2006. The book makes use of the text in Hindi for reference and quoting. There are two reasons for this: first, language is not merely a medium between the text and the reader, but also something that carries a ‘voice’. The use of Hindi by Kamleshwar has a bearing on the kind of di scourse bei ng generated, as di scussed l ater. Secondl y, language acts in a cultural context and hence the impact that it carries is properly highlighted only in the original language in which the work has been composed. A translated work is, at times, not able to convey the spirit behind the words. The quotes from the text have been given in Roman script. The last one taken is Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss, published in 2006 and the winner of the “Man Booker Prize” in the same year.

books on being a submissive woman: George Eliot U.S. Monika Mueller, 2005 George Eliot U.S. demonstrates the complex and reciprocal relationship between George Eliot's fiction and the writings of her major American contemporaries, including Nathaniel Hawthorne, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The book also traces Eliot's influence on subsequent American fiction. The introductory section raises methodological questions concerning influence and intertextuality and addresses the mutual reception of European and American social and cultural discourses in order to illuminate culturally motivated divergences and convergences in the authors' presentation of gender, race, and national and ethnic alterity. The book's main body discusses Eliot's and the American writers' depiction of domestic social discourses on gender, religion, and community, and analyzes their depiction of the cultural alterity of Italy. It also focuses on Eliot's and Stowe's different attitudes toward race (and nation building), and discusses the parallels between the kabbalistic passages of Daniel Deronda and American transcendentalist thought. and social life in works by later writers such as Cynthia Ozick and John Irving. Monika Mueller teaches American and English literature at the University of Cologne.
