bangladesh dhaka university admission: Life and Legacy of An Amazing Father Ruhul Amin, 2025-01-16 The author, first-born son of his father, belonged to Muslim majority inhabitants of pre-British India’s Bengal province—who had no instance of modern education in their peasant community of the early 20th century—grew up with his father. The author, after obtaining his higher education in his native country of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), came to USA and obtained his M. A. and Ph. D. degrees. He then spent much of his life in doing research and evaluation on various issues, such as high fertility, high infant mortality, poverty, rapid population growth, and public provision of some basic services, both in inner-city black America and in several developing countries of Asia and West Africa while working for two universities in USA—Morgan State University and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Marland. Life and Legacy of An Amazing Father describes a series of heart-comforting and heart-breaking stories—with which both the author’s father and the author himself were grappling with in attaining their success in life as well as building up successful families, raising resilient children, inspiring, and enabling them to attain their educational, occupational, and other successes in life. From his experience of growing up with his father and, subsequently, helping his own younger siblings and children to succeed in life, the author describes how the adherence to some basic principles, rules, habits, and values of life made difference in his father’s life, his life, and the lives of his siblings and children. Lessons from these stories are discussed in the book. |

Sah, Fan Fang, 2023-06-29 Against the backdrop of uncritical promotions of English-medium instruction (EMI) in higher education globally, this edited volume maps out the political, ideological, and policy-related issues of EMI programs in multilingual and multicultural universities in Asia. In this volume, EMI researchers and practitioners involved in different Asian countries and regions have collaboratively unpacked the critical dimensions of EMI programs in higher education, with a goal to provide must-needed resources for researchers, graduate students, higher education leaders, and policymakers. This volume is the first of its kind in that it provides an exclusive and critical tapestry of EMI at multilingual universities from all parts of Asia, including Central Asia (Kazakhstan), East Asia (Mainland China, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan), South Asia (Bangladesh and Nepal), Southeast Asia (Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam), and Western Asia (United Arab Emirates). The key takeaway for the reader is to not only understand the current phenomenon of EMI in Asian universities but to also learn the dark side of its policies, programs, and practices that have led to unequal teaching and learning spaces in diverse societies. This collection will be of interest to scholars and policymakers in English-medium instruction, English language teaching, TESOL, and applied linguistics. |

bangladesh dhaka university admission: Bangladesh and International Law Mohammad Shahabuddin, 2021-02-22 This book is the first-ever comprehensive analysis of international law from Global South perspectives with specific reference to Bangladesh. The book not only sheds new light on classical international law concepts, such as statehood, citizenship, and self-determination, but also covers more current issues including Rohingya refugees, climate change, sustainable development, readymade garment workers and crimes against humanity. Written by area specialists, the book explores how international law shaped Bangladesh state practice over the last five decades; how Bangladesh in turn contributed to the development of international law; and the manner in which international law is also used as a hegemonic tool for marginalising less powerful countries like Bangladesh. By analysing stories of an ambivalent relationship between international law and post-colonial states, the book exposes the duality of international law as both a problem-solving tool and as a language of hegemony. Despite its focus on Bangladesh, the book deals with the more general problem of post-colonial states’ problematic relationship with international law and so will be of interest to students and scholars of international law in general, as well as those interested in the Global South and South Asia in particular. |

bangladesh dhaka university admission: The International Handbook of Educational Research in the Asia-Pacific Region J.P. Keeves, Ryo Watanabe, 2013-11-11 The aim of the Handbook is to present readily accessible, but scholarly sources of information about educational research in the Asia-Pacific region. The scale and scope of the Handbook is such that the articles included in it provide substantive contributions to knowledge and understanding of education in the Asia region. In so doing, the articles present the problems and issues facing education in the region and the findings of research conducted within the region that contribute to the resolution of these problems and issues. Moreover, since new problems and issues are constantly arising, the articles in the Handbook also indicate the likely directions of future developments. The different articles within the Handbook seek to conceptualize the problems in each specific content area under review, provide an integration of the research conducted within that area, the theoretical basis of the research the practical implications of the research and the contribution of the research towards the resolution of the problems identified. Thus, the articles do not involve the reporting of newly conducted research, but rather require a synthesis of the research undertaken in a particular area, with reference to the research methods employed and the theoretical frameworks on which the research is based. In general, the articles do not advocate a single point of view, but rather, present alternative points of view and comment on the debate and disagreements associated with the conduct and findings of the research. Furthermore, it should be noted, that the Handbook is not concerned with research methodology, and only considers the methods employed in inquiry in so far as the particular methods of research contribute to the effective investigation of problems and issues that have arisen in the conduct and provision of education at different levels within the region. |

bangladesh dhaka university admission: Language in Society in Bangladesh and Beyond Shaila Sultana, Mian Md. Naushaad Kabir, Md. Zulfeqar Haider, Mohammod Moninoor Roshid, M. Obaidul Hamid, 2023-11-29 This collection presents a holistic picture of the sociolinguistic landscape in Bangladesh, offering a critical understanding of language ideologies and social inequalities in the country, as they connect more widely to dynamics in the Global South. The book seeks to untangle the voices embedded in the language practices of a range of communities and professions in the region, which have been little studied in the literature, and encourage a rethinking of the relationships between language and nationality, class, ethnicity, race, and gender. Highlighting perspectives from established and emerging researchers and drawing on a wide range of theoretical approaches and methodologies, the volume is organized around such key themes as bilingualism and diglossia; language variation across domains; language and identity in literature; and the interconnectedness of language, identity, and globalization. Taken together, the collection calls attention to the socially and spatially situated nature of language practices in Bangladesh and in turn, the ways in which scholars in the Global South make sense of the sociolinguistic landscape at both the local and global levels. This book will appeal to scholars working in sociolinguistics, particularly those working on language policy, language and identity, language variation, and in or about the Global South. |
bangladesh dhaka university admission: Forbidden Truth Abid Bahar PhD, 2023-10-25 This is the story of a dynasty founded by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a Max Weberian Charismatic leader but unfortunately not a statesman who established a one-party rule, which led to a rebellion and his predictable death. Mujib died of his self-inflicted wound called BAKSAL Dictatorship. Mujib is not frozen in time; his daughter, Sheikh Hasina (the “digital dictator”), and her Awami cadres (followers) continue Mujib’s brutal BAKSAL tradition. On the parliament floor, Mujib boasted about his government’s extrajudicial killing and exclaimed, “Sheraj Shikder, where are you now?” These and other remarks by Mujib show his problems with self-discipline. Pinaki Bhattacharya, a researcher on Bangladesh politics, says, “Mujib was a great trickster.” |
