applications of network theorems: Matroid Theory and its Applications in Electric Network Theory and in Statics Andras Recski, 2013-06-29 I. The topics of this book The concept of a matroid has been known for more than five decades. Whitney (1935) introduced it as a common generalization of graphs and matrices. In the last two decades, it has become clear how important the concept is, for the following reasons: (1) Combinatorics (or discrete mathematics) was considered by many to be a collection of interesting, sometimes deep, but mostly unrelated ideas. However, like other branches of mathematics, combinatorics also encompasses some gen eral tools that can be learned and then applied, to various problems. Matroid theory is one of these tools. (2) Within combinatorics, the relative importance of algorithms has in creased with the spread of computers. Classical analysis did not even consider problems where only a finite number of cases were to be studied. Now such problems are not only considered, but their complexity is often analyzed in con siderable detail. Some questions of this type (for example, the determination of when the so called greedy algorithm is optimal) cannot even be answered without matroidal tools. |

applications of network theorems: NETWORK THEORY SMARAJIT GHOSH, 2005-01-01 This book offers an excellent and practically oriented introduction to the basic concepts of modern circuit theory. It builds a thorough and rigorous understanding of the analysis techniques of electric networks, and also explains the essential procedures involved in the synthesis of passive networks. Written specifically to meet the needs of undergraduate students of electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering, instru-mentation and control engineering, and computer science and engineering, the book provides modularized coverage of the full spectrum of network theory suitable for a one-semester course. A balanced emphasis on conceptual understanding and problem-solving helps students master the basic principles and properties that govern circuit behaviour. A large number of solved examples show students the step-by-step processes for applying the techniques presented in the text. A variety of exercises with answers at the chapter ends allow students to practice the solution methods. Besides students pursuing courses in engineering, the book is also suitable for self-study by those preparing for AMIE and competitive examinations. An objective-type question bank at the end of book is designed to see how well the students have mastered the material presented in the text. |
applications of network theorems: Electromagnetic Field Computation by Network Methods Leopold B. Felsen, Mauro Mongiardo, Peter Russer, 2009-03-05 In this monograph, the authors propose a systematic and rigorous treatment of electromagnetic field representations in complex structures. The architecture suggested in this book accommodates use of different numerical methods as well as alternative Green's function representations in each of the subdomains resulting from a partitioning of the overall problem. The subdomains are regions of space where electromagnetic energy is stored and are described in terms of equivalent circuit representations based either on lumped element circuits or on transmission lines. Connection networks connect the subcircuits representing the subdomains. The connection networks are lossless, don't store energy and represent the overall problem topology. This is similar to what is done in circuit theory and permits a phrasing of the solution of EM field problems in complex structures by Network-oriented methods. |

applications of network theorems: Foundations of Chemical Reaction Network Theory Martin Feinberg, 2019-01-31 This book provides an authoritative introduction to the rapidly growing field of chemical reaction network theory. In particular, the book presents deep and surprising theorems that relate the graphical and algebraic structure of a reaction network to qualitative properties of the intricate system of nonlinear differential equations that the network induces. Over the course of three main parts, Feinberg provides a gradual transition from a tutorial on the basics of reaction network theory, to a survey of some of its principal theorems, and, finally, to a discussion of the theory’s more technical aspects. Written with great clarity, this book will be of value to mathematicians and to mathematically-inclined biologists, chemists, physicists, and engineers who want to contribute to chemical reaction network theory or make use of its powerful results. |

applications of network theorems: Theory and Application of Graphs Junming Xu, 2003-07-31 In the spectrum of mathematics, graph theory which studies a mathe matical structure on a set of elements with a binary relation, as a recognized discipline, is a relative newcomer. In recent three decades the exciting and rapidly growing area of the subject abounds with new mathematical devel opments and significant applications to real-world problems. More and more colleges and universities have made it a required course for the senior or the beginning postgraduate students who are majoring in mathematics, computer science, electronics, scientific management and others. This book provides an introduction to graph theory for these students. The richness of theory and the wideness of applications make it impossi ble to include all topics in graph theory in a textbook for one semester. All materials presented in this book, however, I believe, are the most classical, fundamental, interesting and important. The method we deal with the mate rials is to particularly lay stress on digraphs, regarding undirected graphs as their special cases. My own experience from teaching out of the subject more than ten years at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) shows that this treatment makes hardly the course di:fficult, but much more accords with the essence and the development trend of the subject. |

Practical examples throughout the book reinforce the main ideas, allowing readers to apply what they’ve learned and deepen their understanding as they move through the material. |
applications of network theorems: Ten Applications of Graph Theory Hansjoachim Walther, 2012-12-06 Growing specialization and diversification have brought a host of monographs and textbooks on increasingly specialized topics. However, the tree of knowledge of mathematics and related fields does not grow only by putting forth new bran ches. It also happens, quite often in fact, that branches which were thought to be completely disparate are suddenly seen to be related. Further, the kind and level of sophistication of mathematics applied in various sciences has changed drastically in recent years: measure theory is used (non-tri vially) in regional and theoretical economics; algebraic geometry interacts with physics; the Minkowsky lemma, coding theory and the structure of water meet one another in packing and covering theory; quantum fields, crystal defects and mathematical programming profit from homotopy theory; Lie algebras are relevant to filtering; and prediction and electrical engineering can use Stein spaces. And in addition to this there are such new emerging subdisciplines as completely integrable systems, chaos, synergetics and large-scale order, which are almost impossible to fit into the existing classification schemes. They draw upon widely different sections of mathematics. This program, Mathematics and Its Applications, is devoted to such (new) interrelations as exempla gratia: - a central concept which plays an important role in several different mathe matical and/or scientific specialized areas; - new applications of the results and ideas from one area of scientific endeavor into another; - influences which the results, problems and concepts of one field of enquiry have and have had on the development of another. |
