anma massage course: Science and Culture in Traditional Japan Masayoshi Sugimoto, David L. Swain, 2016-02-03 This book of Japanese history explores the development of science and technology in traditional Japanese society. It may be surprising to some readers familiar with the history of Japan that that scientific thought existed at all in traditional Japan. However, Science and Culture in Traditional Japan show the development of premodern science in Japan in the context of that country's social and intellectual milieu. Anyone who wishes to understand the development of Japan's science and technology over the last hundred years will appreciate this history of the centuries that preceded modernization, for it is the story of why and how Japan was ready and, more importantly, able to make the leap from Eastern to Western science. The history and culture book shows how Japan's long pattern of assimilation—in advancing and receding waves—of Chinese science (and some Western science) laid the foundation for an appreciation of the need for and value of the new Western knowledge. |

anma massage course: Energies of Transformation Bonnie Greenwell, 2002 This book is about the subtle energy of the life force, the pure consciousness beyond mind and the ecstatic experience of spiritual awakening. It also tells of physical collapse, psychic chaos, and personality upheaval, those elements of human transformation that uproot individuals to the core. It tells the stories of people, both ancient and modern, who have discovered and integrated an experience that pushes the edges of their sanity and their divinity. And it is a guide for survival and transformation. It appears that when people pray, meditate, or turn inward with great intensity to find God , what they may ultimately experience is the sat-chit-ananda of the ancient Indian scriptures. Sat is existence or beingness, the substance or essence that is all things. Chit is cosmic intelligence or knowledge that fills everything, a consciousness without personalidentity. Ananda is ecstatic bliss. Indian pandits identify these three qualities as the essential nature of existence. Direct intuition of them becomes possible following the eruption of Kundalini energy, which is latent in each of us. This book is to help you recognize and support a unique, universal and ageless process related to spiritual experience and psychological wholeness and identified in ancient times as Kundalini awakening. |
anma massage course: Okinawan Te (Martial Art of Kings & Nobles) Revealed, Second Edition (Revised & Expanded) Mark D Bishop, 2017-08-21 Another revealing book by Mark D Bishop. This work expands on the original best-selling version, by including more than 40 extra pages and further explaining the methodology of applications, as well training methods, for proper conditioning. Providing a teaching format for the instructor, it is also an informative workbook for the beginner and a how-to-do manual for those already with experience in the martial arts. In effect, it is the first ever work that deals thoroughly with the training and techniques of Okinawan Te as it developed from 1609, following the Satsuma Invasion of the Ryukyu Islands, until 1879, when the monarchy was dissolved by Japan. Until now, despite demonstrations of its effectiveness, the study of and training in Okinawan Te of this period has been known only to a few adherents. This has led to a mystification and often false representation. However, this can no longer be the case, as all is uncovered in this detailed and brilliantly coordinated work. |
anma massage course: A History of Australia’s Early Cosmopolitan Naturopathic Osteopathy Shirley Murray Strachan, 2025-05-30 Revealing the forgotten ideas and philosophy behind early naturopathic osteopathy, Shirley Murray Strachan presents a reoriented historical view of Thomas Ambrose Bowen and his work, breaking from the prevailing twentieth-century legitimation narrative of mainstream chiropractic and osteopathy and exploring the contributions and practices of Australia’s early cosmopolitan naturopathic osteopathy pioneers FG Roberts and Maurice Blackmore. Viewing Bowen’s practice and symbolism through a historical lens, the book examines the forgotten world of early cosmopolitan Australian osteopathy, debunking popular posthumous commercialised claims about Bowen’s work and asserts the importance of traditional approaches in naturopathic osteopathy. Though an interrogation of conflicting origin stories and myths about Bowen’s work, it highlights the important contributions of naturopathic pioneers FG Roberts and Maurice Blackmore. The background narrative is the struggle of mainstream chiropractic and osteopathy seeking professional recognition and forged from in-fighting between overseas and Australian chiropractic and osteopathic political interests. Counterposed is the posthumous popular interpretations that orphaned Bowen’s work from its wellsprings in naturopathic osteopathy. This is an accessible book for historians and practitioners of early osteopathy, chiropractic and naturopathy, especially to the large, international community of accredited Bowen therapists. |

Leslie, 1998 Asian Medical Systems provide fascinating opportunities to observe directly practices that continue ancient scientific modes of thought, and to analyse the historical processes that meditate their relationship to modern science and technology. Three great traditions of medical science evolved during antiquity in the Chinese, Indian, and Mediterranean civilizations, all based on humoral conceptions of health and illness. Folk curers throughout the world continue to practice humoral medicine, but in Asia along educated physicians maintain its learned traditions. Thus, in these societies the great and little traditions of humoral medicine coexist with cosmopolitan medicine, which draws upon modern science and modes of professional organization. This volume has been designed to show how research on Asian medicine opens a new field of scholarship, the comparative study of medical systems. Such a book requires the skills of authors with many kinds of training, and those who have contributed essays to this volume are trained in history, sociology, anthropology, public health, pharmacology, epidemiology, cosmopolitan medicine, and philosophy. |

anma massage course: Hibakusha since I was born The Japan In-Utero Hibakusha Network, 2024-08-09 We, in-utero Hibakusha and our families, published a book about our experiences with the shocking title, “We are Hibakusha since I was born”. It must have been about four years ago when Prof. Koichi Kimoto visited Kure Mitsuda High School before completing the memoir, and I asked him if I could translate this book into English. However, things have developed dramatically, and Ms. Shizuku Sadaiwa, a third-year student at Kwansei Gakuin University and a third-generation atomic bomb survivor, contacted her friends using free communication apps. The movement spread like wildfire, and about 50 students from 10 universities, including her University, International Christian University, Hokkaido University, the University of Tokyo, Waseda University, and University of the Ryukyus, joined. They formed a group called AOGIRI, named after the Chinese parasol tree exposed to the atomic bomb, and began translating the memoirs into English in late July 2022. With all these dedicated efforts, we are pleased to announce the publication of an e-book in English. We are very excited about their idea of crowdfunding production and other costs. By distributing this book to the world, I hope that many people will correctly understand the damage caused by the atomic bomb and that future peace will expand their perspective. |
