b n dutta: Political Philosophy of M. N. Roy Dr. S. N. Talwar, 2022-01-09 Political Philosophy of M. N. Roy M.N. Roy may be best remembered as a philosopher of Radical Humanism. He propounded his new philosophy as a solution for the political, cultural and moral crisis which confronted mankind since 1945. His philosophy was in the nature of a 'Third Force' , as he believed that Communism, as it unfolded itself in the Soviet Union in the Stalinist era, was the greatest menace to human potentialities. He elaborated his schemes of 'Radical Democracy' and 'Humanist Politics' as integral parts of Radical Humanism to philosophically reconstruct a socially-cohesive state structure. The edifice of his philosophy rested on four laudable pillars viz. Rationalism, Humanism, Freedom and Materialism and spiritualism and no longer regarded man as a mere ' economic animal'. His philosophy asserted the supremacy of man in a socio-political system that transcended national boundaries. The study attempts a critical appraisal of Radical Humanism avoiding the adulation of a disciple and the approach of an uncharitable critic. It is an updated study, based on the author's three research dissertations besides other relevant literature. The first six chapters unfold the story of the evolution of Roy's philosophy and the seventh is a critical evaluation of the basic postulates of Radical Humanism. The study endeavors to get under the skin of real Roy, the visionary, who through his condemnation of orthodox Marxism as practiced in the Soviet Union had almost predicted its impending failure that actually happened in 1989. The study would be useful to academics, research scholars, general readers and post-graduate students of social sciences. The pro-Marxist and anti-Marxist intelligentsia should find the work objectively analytical.
b n dutta: They Too Fought for India's Freedom Asghar Ali Engineer, 2006 This is a rejoinder to suppressed histories. The role of minorities in India s struggle for freedom has been praise-worthy in every sense of the term. They played an immensely important role there. Unfortunately, however, that brilliant role does not occupy any meaningful space in our historical discourses. The present work corrects the distortion and draws the picture of the minorities role in India s freedom struggle in colours true to history. Almost all the minorities Muslims, Sikhs, Parsis, Christians, etc. have been given their due space here.

b n dutta: Vitiligo and Other Hypomelanoses of Hair and Skin Jean-Paul Ortonne, 2012-12-06 Leukoderma is a generic term for any pigmentary dilution, be it congenital or acquired, circumscribed or generalized, devoid of or partially lacking in pig mentation. In the approach to the diagnosis of leukoderma, we have generally first considered the age of onset, whether leukoderma was congenital or ac quired, the extent and pattern of involvement, and the degree of pigmentary dilution. The organization of this monograph reflects this approach. For ex ample, we have separated the section devoted to various disease entities into diffuse and circumscribed leukoderma and the latter into various etiologies such as genetic, metabolic, infectious, and endocrinologic. One of several justifications for this monograph is to present an approach to the diagnosis of leukoderma, as detailed in Part II. In formulating a guide for the physician, we have found some limitations to our previous approach; we therefore offer the following new classification based upon a clini cal-pathologic correlation. This could provide the means to describe both the clinical and pathologic findings in one term.

b n dutta: The Lives of Agnes Smedley Ruth Price, 2005-01-07 Was she a selfless political activist? A feminist heroine? A gifted writer who rose from poverty to become a leading journalist and author of the cult classic Daughter of Earth? A spy for the Soviet Union? Or all of these things? Drawing on fifteen years of intensive research and unprecedented access to previously unpublished documents, this vibrant book brings to life one of the twentieth century's most fascinating women. Ruth Price traces Agnes Smedley's unlikely trajectory from a small Missouri town to the coal country of Colorado; to Berkeley and Greenwich Village; to Berlin, Moscow, and China. Fueled by a fury at injustice, Smedley threw herself headlong into the crucial issues of the time, from Indian independence to birth control, women's rights, and the revolution in China. Her friends included such figures as Margaret Sanger, Langston Hughes, Emma Goldman, Jawaharlal Nehru, Mao Zedong, and many others. Perhaps most important, Price uncovers an astonishing truth: Smedley, long thought to be the unfair target of a Cold War smear campaign, was indeed guilty of the espionage charges leveled against her by General Douglas MacArthur and others. Smedley worked to foment armed revolution in India and gathered intelligence for the Soviet Union, seeing it as a bulwark against fascism. Price argues that Smedley acted out of a passionate idealism and that she exhibited a courage and compassion worthy of a renewed, if more complicated, admiration today. Epic in scope, painstakingly researched, and unflinchingly honest, The Lives of Agnes Smedley offers a stunning reappraisal of one of America's most controversial Leftists and a new look at the troubled historical terrain of the first half of the twentieth century.
