It clearly presents a language of energy that enables astrology to be reliably used by those in the helping professions as well as by the general public. As Library Journal stated, Transcending the boundaries of separate disciplines, this work represents a major distillation of astrological principles.
astrology and psychology: Psychological Astrology Karen Hamaker-Zondag, 1990-01-01 Examines the traditional wisdom of astrology in the light of Jungian psychology, revealing the horoscope as a picture of our psychic structure and a key to self-knowledge and personal growth. Beginning with an analysis of Jung's terminology, including archetypes, the collective unconscious, and the theory of synchronicity, the author explores the striking correspondence between Jung's theory of psychological types and the traditional astrological elements.

astrology and psychology: The Quindecile Ricki Reeves, 2001 We like to think we are sensible beings who base our actions on conscious decisions. The fact is, all of us are subject to the occasional irrational impulse, the wild hair that surprises us and those around us. Usually, this is not a big problem -- in fact, it can act as a safety valve for our creative abilities and a check against unnecessary self-restriction. But it's not so healthy when we find ourselves driven by compulsions and obsessions that seem to take over our lives and consume our attention and energy. How can we discover the origins of these forces? Can we turn them into something constructive? Astrology provides a key to these questions in the quindecile. This newly researched 165-degree aspect of hidden driving forces is thoroughly explored in these pages by an experienced astrologer and mental health professional. Numerous chart examples support the analysis of the quindecile in natal, transit, progressed, and synastry horoscopes. A full set of delineations and interpretations lets you quickly add this illuminating factor to your understanding of any chart. In these pages, you will explore: * The psychological dynamics of obsession-compulsion * Planetary dynamics by sign, element, and triplicity * The quindecile in natals, progressions, transits, and synastry * A full reference section of interpretations and delineations * Numerous chart examples of well-known people You will find that The Quindecile not only points out the nature of inner compulsions, but also suggests ways to transform them into constructive, creative activities and projects.   astrology and psychology: Encyclopaedia of Psychological Astrology Charles E O Carter, 2005-03 Subtitled, An Encyclopaedia of Character & Disease, Carter's classic book was the result of study of hundreds of horoscopes. Carter discovered that specific degrees of the zodiac produced specific results, including things like abscesses, goiter, poor vision, medical or musical ability, spinal curvature, asthma & much more. He also found astrological guidelines for traits such as boredom, love of animals, hay fever, rambling speech, epilepsy & many more. Sometimes known as Carter's Little Green Book. Always surprising, sometimes witty, this is one of the great books of the 20th century. Charles E.O. Carter (1887 - 1968) was one of the outstanding British astrologers of the 20th century. He succeeded Alan Leo as head of Astrological Lodge at the Theosophical Society, a post he held from 1920 to 1952. He was editor of Astrology, The Astrologer's Quarterly, from 1926 to 1959. Carter's persistent genius reestablished astrology as a serious discipline in England, after two centuries of decline.
astrology and psychology: Psychological Astrology an Introduction Noel Eastwood, 2019-06-11 Would you like to learn how to read the astrology chart to gain a deeper understanding of your psychological strengths and weaknesses? Perhaps you are a therapist and wish to use this depth of knowledge to assist in developing strategies for emotional healing? This is not just another introduction to astrology book, rather, it takes you on a journey to show you how astrology and psychology complement each other. Retired psychologist and astrologer Noel Eastwood, draws upon a lifetime of study, practice and research to give you a readable and relatable book on the psychology of astrology for astrologers and the astrology of psychology for psychologists. This book is, firstly, a manual for the astrologer who wants to embark on their own journey of discovery but doesn't know where to start. Secondly, it can be used by the experienced astrologer who wants to know more about the key astrological significators that are correlated with psychological disorders and how to apply it in their readings. Thirdly, it is for the psychotherapist who would like to better understand their client's needs. One thing is certain this book will make you hungry to learn more of the psychological principles that form the foundations of modern astrology. Includes a discussion of synastry charts and inherited family traits; what aspects trigger people to seek counselling; how you might apply psychotherapy in your astrology practice; locating the astrological significators for conflict and complexes; ADD and ADHD; astrological significators for teenage depression and suicidal thoughts; psychological disorders as a spectrum of neurological symptoms; planetary aspects and shapes; the power of the elements and modes; clues to your spiritual path in your astrology chart; the powerful Saturn cycle; the amazing Air Fire phenomenon; using Jungian archetype meditations to support your personal mystic quest. This book is Noel's latest and I love it. I admit I am a little jealous as he has accomplished with this book what I would have loved to have done. It is much harder than you would expect to write a basic book on astrology as the information available is vast. But here, Noel has managed to introduce astrologers to psychology and psychologists to astrology successfully. You will find it a simple book, after all it is an introduction, but at the same time incredibly complex. The fundamental knowledge is all there interwoven with mythology, mysticism, meditations, advice and practical applications. This book is an absolute 'must have' for every astrologer's (and psychologist's) library. Chris Turner, astrologer.
astrology and psychology: Psychological Astrology And The Twelve Houses Noel Eastwood, 2019-09-09 'Psychological Astrology and the Twelve Houses' will surprise you whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned professional. A retired psychologist, Noel Eastwood uses an approach to astrology that incorporates Jungian active imagination and archetypal psychotherapy. In this book he walks you through the houses of the natal chart like a good travel guide who knows that sightseeing is not enough to make a journey memorable, you need to experience the place for yourself, meet the locals in small cafés, discover hidden fountains and explore secret gardens. As a practice-oriented work, Noel takes every opportunity to demonstrate how astrological symbolism translates into the personality of an individual. He picked four well-known figures to illustrate the process of analysis on their charts. What makes this book truly unique, however, is an invitation to meet your own astrological archetypes. To show where such an inner journey can take you, Noel shares his personal meditations as if you were reading his private travel diary. This is now available in audiobook: Comprehensive and concise with great meditations and stories. Lots of interesting insights. (The author is an) excellent reader.

astrology and psychology: Astrology and Psychoanalysis Clifford West, 2018-10-15 For millennia, astrology has offered an insightful system of appraisal for those seeking to understand human personality. In the modern era, objective psychological inquiry has often arrived at conclusions regarding human charecter that are remarkably similar to the traits described in the ancient system of astrology. Such is the case with the great founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, who developed a scheme for appraising the attributes of human character not unlike the age old appraisals of those who find meaning in the moment of one's birth..This compact overview of astrological symbolism and Freudian psychoanalysis lays out the basics in both systems and the remarkable similarities between them. If one wishes to understand the rudiments of astrology, of psychoanalysis, or just gain insight into human motivation and behavior, this concise overview offers a fascinating new/old way to look at human personality.

astrology and psychology: Psychological Astrology and the Twelve House Noel Eastwood, 2015-06-23 'Psychological Astrology and the Twelve Houses' will surprise you, whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned professional: Noel Eastwood is an astrologer, tarotist, and has recently retired from his psychology practice. He approaches astrology as an altered state of consciousness. He walks you through the houses of the natal chart like a good travel guide who knows that sightseeing is not enough to make a journey memorable, you need to experience the place for yourself: meet the locals in small cafés, discover hidden fountains and secret gardens. This is a practice-oriented work, Noel takes every opportunity to demonstrate how astrological symbolism translates into the personality of an individual. He picked four well-known figures to illustrate the process of analysis on their charts. What makes this book truly unique, however, is an invitation to meet your astrological archetypes. To show where such an inner journey can take you, Noel shares his personal meditations as if you were reading his private travel diary. Also available as an audiobook. Reviews Comprehensive and concise with great meditations and stories. Lots of interesting insights. (The author is an) excellent reader. B I was very excited to read his book because it takes on some intensely personal subject matter from a psychological perspective, which Noel is uniquely qualified to write about, since he is that rare combination (that I wish we had more of in the astrological world), a practicing psychologist and astrologer. His areas of expertise are Jungian and archetypal psychology, astrology, Tarot, and Taoist meditation, so he's well-versed in the realms of the psyche. My first impression, once I got started reading, is that this book is an ideal blend of serious subject matter handled with respect for the reader, with just enough astrologese for the basic-to-medium-advanced astrology student. Noel does not overwhelm you with the level of detail that is automatically off-putting for the beginner. You won't be scared picking up this book, in other words, if you aren't an astrology expert. This is book is for the person who (in my opinion) would be dissatisfied with the superficial or cookbook style astrology book and is looking for something that goes deeper, that explains the pieces of the self we don't usually discuss, even in the astrological world, but most people who want to understand their own (and others') psychology wish could be discussed with some depth and understanding of what's really going on in our psyches as expressed through our natal charts. Speaking as a professional astrologer, I personally got the most out of the very end of the book, where Noel discusses 'houses as psychological defenses.' If you read this book for nothing else, get it for the series of meditations Noel asks you to do; those on their own are very valuable (and I would suggest keeping a journal as you go, to capture your responses). A valuable book for the person looking for psychological self-awareness. AG I have studied astrology for years and buy a new book every now and then to enhance my understanding. This book is the first in a long time that really had me intrigued and learning (had my highlighter out!!). Eastwood's combination of astrology and psychology knowledge/experience makes the content easier to follow and provides a much deeper foundation on how to interpret the 12 houses, what's in them (and what's NOT) and other key influences. Looking forward to the next two books in this series! J This book is exactly what I was looking for! Excellent information presented in an entertaining and logical way. For the serious student only, I would advise. I've been on the metaphysical road pretty much since birth & have studied astrology charts for over 25 years. This book truly helped me synthesize an enormous amount of facts and data that constantly swim around in my head. Noel Eastwood...Thank you, sir, for taking the time and making the effort to help students (like me!) on our sometimes strange and difficult (yet always amazing) personal journeys. For me, healing is the goal, knowledge is the path and application & practice are the keys. This book makes a great contribution and I look forward to more from this author/teacher. AS

astrology and psychology: The Dark of the Soul: Psychopathology in the Horoscope Liz Greene, 2023-07-12 Disturbed psychological states have baffled both religion and medicine for as long as human beings have existed. Despite the explorations of modern psychology we are no closer to understanding these expressions of human suffering than we were a thousand years ago. Although it can offer no solutions, astrology can provide many insights into why some individuals respond to conflict and unhappiness by retreating form life, and why do others respond with savagery toward their fellows. This is a reprint of the CPA Press original. The three seminars in this book use astrological perspectives to explore a spectrum of extreme psychological states, from the condition known as psychopathy to the collective mechanism of scapegoating as much a pathology as any diagnosed mental illness. Astrologers often avoid confronting the issues of madness and human destructiveness, and political correctness has made it even more difficult to face such issues honestly and without sentiment or hypocrisy. But only by exploring the roots of what we call madness can we find any positive and creative approach to the mystery of why some individuals fail to cope constructively with life 's challenges. This book will sometimes shock and disturb, but it is an invaluable resource for any practicing astrologer concerned with the dilemma of human suffering, and any lay person wishing to understand how astrology can contribute to our comprehension of human behaviour.

Greg Bogart masterfully guides the reader through the principles of psychological astrology, emphasizing the process of selftransformation, spiritual evolution, and discovering the meaning in every event and every moment. A wide range of examples demonstrate how to apply this knowledge to skillfully help others as a counseling astrologer.

An important book helping those in the counseling process.
astrology and psychology: Saturn Liz Greene, 2021-12-01 This classic astrology text, revered by beginners and professional astrologers alike, is now available in a Weiser Classics edition. “The most important single contribution of twentieth-century astrology is that astrology is not a map of one’s fixed destiny but is a potential map of the unfolding of the authentic, higher self.” —Robert Hand, from the foreword Saturn’s darker persona is recognized universally in myth and fairytale. In this classic astrology text, renowned astrologer and Jungian analyst Liz Greene offers a fresh perspective on how to handle the influence of this much-maligned astrological symbol. In Saturn, Greene shows us how the frustrating experiences connected to this planet can be turned into opportunities for greater insight and meaning in our lives. Saturn, she says, symbolizes a psychic process—one that allows us to utilize the experience of pain for self-discovery and a more fulfilling and complete life. Greene retraces Saturn’s character through sign, house, aspect, and synastry in a brilliant analysis that reveals his other face: that of the initiator who, for the price of our honesty with ourselves, offers us greater consciousness, self-understanding, and, eventually, freedom.
astrology and psychology: Barriers and Boundaries: The Horoscope and the Defences of the Personality Liz Greene, 2023-10-20 This reprint of the original CPA Press version explores the fundamental issue of how we defend ourselves against conflict and suffering through characteristic psychological mechanisms reflected in the natal chart. Both the pathological dimensions of defences and their creative contribution to the personality are carefully explored through the zodiac signs and through the multi-levelled planetary symbols Saturn and Chiron, to reveal the many ways in which we both protect and injure ourselves when confronted with what we experience as life's threatening face. The seminar format brings complex psychological material alive in an accessible way, and ample case material highlights chracteristic human behaviour patterns. This volume is a profound revelation of the creative ways in which we can approach what may initially seem like our greatest failings.

astrology and psychology: The Horoscope in Manifestation: Psychology and Prediction Liz Greene, 2023-07-03 This is a reprint of the original version from the CPA Press. Bridging the apparent gap between psychological and predictive astrology is not easy, and many astrologers feel they must polarise and espouse one while rejecting the other. The seminars in this innovative volume explore the psychological dynamics which accompany concrete events, focusing on the important psychological model of the complex as both a generator of individual behaviour and an archetypal image of individual fate. This book offers profound insights into the ways in which inner and outer reality coincide and reflect each other.

astrology and psychology: Coping with Negative Life Events C.R. Snyder, Carol E. Ford, 2013-06-29 Like a Bridge over Troubled Waters The surge of current interest in the interface between clinical and social psychology is well illustrated by the publication of a number of general texts and journals in this area, and the growing emphasis in graduate programs on providing training in both disciplines. Although the bene fits of an integrated clinical-social approach have been recognized for a number of years, the recent work in this area has advanced from the oretical extrapolations of social psychological models to clinical issues to theory and research that is based on social principles and conducted in clinical domains. It is becoming increasingly common to find social psy chologists pursuing research with clinical populations and clinical psy chologists investigating variables that have traditionally been in the realm of social psychology. A major area of interface between the two disciplines is in research and theory concerned with how individuals respond to negative events. In addition to the trend toward an integrated clinical-social approach, the growing body of literature in this area reflects the explosion of cur rent interest in the area of health psychology; work by clinical and social psychologists on the topics of stress and coping has been one of the major facets of this burgeoning field. The purpose of the present volume is to provide a common forum for recent advances in the clinical and social literature on responses to negative life outcomes.
