aussie space time traveler: Master-E: Epic Space and Time Travel into Parallel Dimensions A.E. Beck, 2009-10-07 Power-hungry male government officials of eleven planets had created eleven black holes by imploding their planets and jettisoning ruling-class members to free zones created on the other sides of the black holes. By isolating themselves in these free zones, the officials believed they would obtain the power of creation. These arrogant men theorized that they could replace the Great Oneness, the life force of the E, and the vortex of energy known to all as the Ancient One, thus creating a New World Order. The officials found out, however, that the black holes were portals that allowed passage back into dimensions that were parallel to those that they destroyed. The officials theorized that they needed to destroy these parallel dimensions to attain ultimate power. A plot was therefore devised to implode planet Clarion and jettison its ruling-class members to a free zone on the other side of a twelfth black hole while simultaneously imploding the parallel dimensions associated with the eleven previously formed free zones. E-Masters, whose duty was to maintain balance in the universe, met to discuss the impending plot. The E-Masters were told that the Ancient One had placed an evolutionary leap of awareness within a boy named MZ, who was born in hiding on planet Clarion. The E-Masters recognized that MZ must develop mastership to avert universal disaster caused by the impending implosions of Clarion and the eleven black holes. E-Master Traveler Z was working to prepare MZ for his E-Master development and his escape from Clarion. It was hoped that instruction received at mystery temples and during his travels, along with guidance from Traveler Z, would allow MZ to pass tests of Master-E and attain mastership before it was too late.
aussie space time traveler: Aussie Fans Celia Lam, Jackie Raphael, 2019-10-01 Australia holds a unique place in the global scheme of fandom. Much of the media consumed by Australian audiences originates from either the United States or the United Kingdom, yet several Australian productions have also attracted international fans in their own right. This first-ever academic study of Australian fandom explores the national popular culture scene through themes of localization and globalization. The essays within reveal how Australian audiences often seek authentic imports and eagerly embrace different cultures, examining both Hollywood’s influence on Australian fandom and Australian fan reactions to non-Western content. By shining a spotlight on Australian fandom, this book not only provides an important case study for fan studies scholars, it also helps add nuance to a field whose current literature is predominantly U.S. and U.K. focused.   aussie space time traveler: English, The Aussie Way Lynne Maree Walsh, 2016-01-28 Written by a Sydney native, English, The Aussie Way: A Fun Guide to Australia’s Colourful Phrases, Words, and Expressions offers an amusing way for English or non-English speakers around the world to learn the colloquial phrases for which Australia is famous. This user-friendly reference provides words/phrases and meanings/synonyms by using an example sentence. Says the author, “For seven years I housed international students who were attending English language schools in Sydney, and I realised that although they had a good grasp of formal grammar, they struggled to understand not only colloquial English, but many of the commonly used phrasal verbs, which could not be found in a standard English/Spanish, French, etc., dictionary. It was then that I decided to start writing some of them down for future reference and it grew from there.”
aussie space time traveler: Suburban Space, the Novel and Australian Modernity Brigid Rooney, 2018-11-15 ‘Suburban Space, the Novel and Australian Modernity’ investigates the interaction between suburbs and suburbia in a century-long series of Australian novels. It puts the often trenchantly anti-suburban rhetoric of fiction in dialogue with its evocative and imaginative rendering of suburban place and time. ‘Suburban Space, the Novel and Australian Modernity’ rethinks existing cultural debates about suburbia – in Australia and elsewhere – by putting novelistic representations of ‘suburbs’ (suburban interiors, homes, streets, forms and lives over time) in dialogue with the often negative idea of ‘suburbia’ in fiction as an amnesic and conformist cultural wasteland. ‘Suburban space, the novel and Australian modernity’ shows, in other words, how Australian novels dramatize the collision between the sensory terrain of the remembered suburb and the cultural critique of suburbia. It is through such contradictions that novels create resonant mental maps of place and time. Australian novels are a prism through which suburbs – as sites of everyday colonization, defined by successive waves of urban development – are able to be glimpsed sidelong.

aussie space time traveler: Being Australian Catriona Elder, 2020-07-24 After a century of speculation by writers, filmmakers, travelers and scholars, being Australian' has become a recognisable shorthand for a group of national characteristics. Now, in an era of international terrorism, being seen as un-Australian' has become a potent rhetorical weapon for some, and a badge of honour for others. Catriona Elder explores the origins, meaning and effects of the many stories we tell about ourselves, and how they have changed over time. She outlines some of the traditional stories and their role in Australian nationalism, and she shows how concepts of egalitarianism, peaceful settlement and sporting prowess have been used to create a national identity. Elder also investigates the cultural and social perspectives that have been used to critique dominant accounts of Australian identity, including ideas of class, gender, sexuality, ethnicity and race. She shows how these critiques have been, in turn, queried in recent years. Being Australian is an ideal introduction to studying Australia for anyone interested in understanding Australian society, culture and history. A clever work: incisive and original. At a time when Australian identities have never been more debated, Elder finds an open way through the closed doors which often restrict cultural representations of Australian-ness.' Professor Adam Shoemaker, Dean of Arts, ANU This is a timely and significant new analysis essential reading on issues of identity and our own anxieties about national belonging and what it means to be Australian' in a globalising world.'   aussie space time traveler: A Companion to Australian Cinema Felicity Collins, Jane Landman, Susan Bye, 2019-04-15 The first comprehensive volume of original essays on Australian screen culture in the twenty-first century. A Companion to Australian Cinema is an anthology of original essays by new and established authors on the contemporary state and future directions of a well-established national cinema. A timely intervention that challenges and expands the idea of cinema, this book brings into sharp focus those facets of Australian cinema that have endured, evolved and emerged in the twenty-first century. The essays address six thematically-organized propositions – that Australian cinema is an Indigenous screen culture, an international cinema, a minor transnational imaginary, an enduring auteur-genre-landscape tradition, a televisual industry and a multiplatform ecology. Offering fresh critical perspectives and extending previous scholarship, case studies range from The Lego Movie, Mad Max, and Australian stars in Hollywood, to transnational co-productions, YouTube channels, transmedia and nature-cam documentaries. New research on trends – such as the convergence of television and film, digital transformations of screen production and the shifting roles of women on and off-screen – highlight how established precedents have been influenced by new realities beyond both cinema and the national. Written in an accessible style that does not require knowledge of cinema studies or Australian studies Presents original research on Australian actors, such as Cate Blanchett and Chris Hemsworth, their training, branding, and path from Australia to Hollywood Explores the films and filmmakers of the Blak Wave and their challenge to Australian settler-colonial history and white identity Expands the critical definition of cinema to include YouTube channels, transmedia documentaries, multiplatform changescapes and cinematic remix Introduces readers to founding texts in Australian screen studies A Companion to Australian Cinema is an ideal introductory text for teachers and students in areas including film and media studies, cultural and gender studies, and Australian history and politics, as well as a valuable resource for educators and other professionals in the humanities and creative arts.

aussie space time traveler: White Masculinity in Contemporary Australia Andrea Waling, 2019-07-10 Spanning the disciplines of sociology, history, media and cultural studies, and popular culture, this book offers a historical exploration of Australian masculine tropes and an examination of contemporary representations of masculinity in the media. With attention to a range of thematic issues, including race, gender, sexuality, mythmaking, media representation, class, and nationality, it draws on new qualitative research and interview material to investigate the ways in which everyday Australian men take up or reject such ideas. White Masculinity in Contemporary Australia thus explores the contradictory resistance to and adoration of ideals of masculinity, forms of Othering used to differentiate the practice of good masculinity from that of bad masculinity, the relationship between heterosexuality, masculinity and Australian sporting culture as central to ideals of masculinity, and the existence of differing pressures to be masculine. As such it will appeal to scholars across the social sciences with interests in gender and sexuality, Australian studies, and contemporary popular culture.
aussie space time traveler: Summoned by the Earth Cynthia Jurs, 2024-03-19 In 1990, Cynthia Jurs climbed a path high in the Himalayas, to meet an “old wise man in a cave,” a highly venerated lama from Nepal, Charok Rinpoche. The question she carried with her was, How can I bring healing and protection to Earth? After hearing her question, Charok Rinpoche told Cynthia to procure sacred Earth Treasure Vases made of clay and potent medicines based on an ancient practice from Tibet, fill them with prayers and symbolic offerings, and plant them around the world to relieve suffering in troubled lands. Summoned by the Earth tells the story of Cynthia’s spirited Earth Treasure Vase pilgrimages, many of these told in gripping detail as she encounters the joys and anguish of the world’s diverse cultures from war-stricken Liberia to the mystical standing stones in Avebury; from the outback of Aboriginal Australia to the nuclear weapons laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico; and back to the cave in Nepal where it all began. In the process of bringing communities together to address their suffering and heal their lands, Cynthia is also forced to face what is calling to be healed within herself. When asked what is most needed to save our world, Cynthia’s teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, replied, “We need to hear within us the sounds of the Earth crying.” Hearing that sound and heeding its call, Cynthia, and eventually many others who have joined her, have borne witness to the web of life in all its beauty and sorrow, ultimately seeing how Gaia—Mother Earth—is inviting us all to become vessels of sacred activism, global healing, and collective awakening. Responding to this summons from the Earth is the most pressing opportunity of our times.

aussie space time traveler: Planning Australia’s Healthy Built Environments Jennifer Kent, Susan Thompson, 2019-03-18 Planning Australia’s Healthy Built Environments shines a quintessentially Australian light on the links between land use planning and human health. A burgeoning body of empirical research demonstrates the ways urban structure and governance influences human health—and Australia is playing a pivotal role in developing understandings of the relationships between health and the built environment. This book takes a retrospective look at many of the challenges faced in pushing the healthy built environment agenda forward. It provides a clear and theoretically sound framework to inform this work into the future. With an emphasis on context and the pursuit of equity, Jennifer L. Kent and Susan Thompson supply specific ways to better incorporate idiosyncrasies of place and culture into urban planning interventions for health promotion. By chronicling the ways health and the built environment scholarship and practice can work together, Planning Australia’s Healthy Built Environments enters into new theoretical and practical debates in this critically important area of research. This book will resonate with both health and built environment scholars and practitioners working to create sustainable and health-supportive urban environments.
aussie space time traveler: Rowing for My Life Kathleen Saville, 2017-01-17 In the tradition of Cheryl Strayed's Wild, one's woman's transformational journey rowing across the savage sea—twice. Just out of college, newly wed, and set up with her husband Curt in a small town in New York, Kathleen Saville quickly realized that an ordinary life working for a better used car and a home with a mortgage would never satisfy her thirst for freedom and adventure. The year before, she and Curt had retraced Henry David Thoreau's canoe journey through the Maine Woods, and both were veteran rowers. Inspired, she suggested that they row across the Atlantic Ocean. Returning to her hometown, living on a shoestring, they built their own twenty-five-foot ocean rowboat. They set out from Morocco and, tested by adverse currents, gales, and their own inexperience, accomplished the near impossible. Three years later, while they attempted to row across the Pacific, Curt was washed overboard and lost their sextant—their only means of navigation. Now, besides confronting fatigue, storms, sharks, and deadly reefs, they had to find a way to avoid becoming lost at sea and succumbing to starvation. Their ordeal in completing their crossing exposed the fissures in their marriage, and in this and subsequent adventures, Kathleen was forced to confront the difference between courage and foolhardiness. Cinematic, suspenseful, heartbreaking, and ultimately triumphant, her story of an unraveling marriage is also the account of finding her true self amid the life-and-death challenges at sea. “It is easier to sail many thousand miles through cold and storm and cannibals, in a government ship, with five hundred men and boys to assist one, than it is to explore the private sea, the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean of one's being alone.”—Henry David Thoreau

Neighbourhood and policy responses to street sex work are also considered. The report draws on research with sex workers, residents and agency staff in five case study areas in England and Scotland. It considers community responses to street sex work and the varying degrees of tolerance and engagement. Exploring whether residential streets can serve as shared spaces where residents and sex workers may coexists, the authors reflect on the scope for improving relations through initiatives such as consultation, mediation and awareness raising. Living and working in areas of street sex work considers both the effectiveness of responses, such as enforcement and the use of antisocial behaviour legislation, and the need for integrated initiatives to address community conflicts and management of the street scene.--BOOK JACKET.
