advanced framing methods: Green Home Building Miki Cook, Doug Garrett, 2014-09-01 A comprehensive guide to building green on any budget. According to conventional wisdom, building a green home is an expensive endeavor. Using proven methods based on applied building science, the authors show how to: Lower base construction costs to provide funding for high performance upgrades Achieve a net-zero energy home, including zero-ing water, waste, carbon, and associated costs within fifteen years Live affordably into the future, despite anticipated rising costs for fuel, water, materials, taxes, and health care This comprehensive guide to building green on any budget defines the strategies that maximize the return on green investments. Miki Cook is a green building and sustainability consultant who has dedicated her career to educating contractors and the public on the strategies, methods, and benefits of green homes. Doug Garrett has trained thousands of homebuilders, architects, and sub-contractors to build energy-efficient homes using applied building science to improve comfort, durability, and healthfulness while meeting or exceeding the energy code. |

advanced framing methods: Anti-Authority Compliance Methods Mira Skylark, AI, 2025-02-27 Anti-Authority Compliance Methods explores how to effectively influence individuals who resist traditional authority. It delves into the psychology of reactance, the natural human tendency to push back against perceived threats to freedom, and offers strategies to transform defiance into compliance. The book uniquely focuses on harnessing this resistance, rather than suppressing it, offering a fresh perspective on influence. Readers will gain insights into framing requests to appeal to an individual's sense of autonomy and control, and the ethical considerations involved. This self-help guide provides actionable advice and real-world examples, drawing from empirical research in social psychology and communication studies. For instance, understanding the Milgram experiment provides context for the complexities of obedience. The book progresses by first introducing core concepts like psychological reactance and indirect influence. It then explores practical methods, including diagnosing reactance and ethical considerations, culminating in case studies demonstrating successful applications. Ultimately, Anti-Authority Compliance Methods argues that direct confrontation is often counterproductive. By understanding cognitive biases and strategically framing requests, individuals can achieve higher compliance rates, particularly among those with anti-authority tendencies. The book offers valuable techniques applicable in various settings, from marketing to education, providing a pathway to more effective and ethical influence. |

advanced framing methods: A Roof Cutter's Secrets to Framing the Custom Home Will L. Holladay, 1989 The original 1989 version of A Roof Cutter's Secrets for the original 1989 price. A reference guide for the experienced carpenter. Explains rake walls, tall walls, plumb and line, production methods of gang cutting rafters, stacking roofs, unequal-pitch situations, beam trusses, tower construction, stairs building and much more. Written by a California building contractor who specialized in framing large custom homes. This original version of A Roof Cutter's Secrets (RCS) was first published in 1989 and was in print for some 10 years until the print master was unfortunately lost. The revised version of RCS, published by The Journal of Light Construction in 2002 and onward was its replacement. That book is a true masterpiece in the art of roof framing and nearly twice the size of the original. It included many new advanced topics and provided much expanded explanations for the 1989 mainstay subjects. While most carpenters consider the current JLC version an essential resource, there are still many folks who desire a copy of the simple, old, rustic, hand sketched original edition. To satisfy those folks we have brought the original 1989 version back to life by applying the latest digital scan technology. While the original RCS doesn't have the flair, detail, completeness and professionalism that the JLC version has, she nonetheless does a good job of covering all the truly need to know framing subjects in a uniquely useful KISS fashion. If you plan to purchase this book as text to accompany The Complicated Roof - A Cut and Stack Workbook (2009), it unfortunately will not correlate. For this purpose you must use the revised version published by The Journal of Light Construction from 2002 and onward. |
